    On this episode, Lauren is joined by the brilliant American singer-songwriter and lead vocalist of the band My Double, My Brother; Joel Hasemeyer. Joel founded the group with friends Beau Knechtel and Matt Bushyeager who all met in their college’s music conservatory. 

    In 2011, the LA band released their debut album ‘What We Found Beneath the Ground’. 12 years on and My Double, My Brother are back with their fourth studio album ‘Something to Hold’.

    The record is a collection of short stories, vignettes, and dramatic monologues about people trying to make sense of their place in the modern world trying to find purpose, hope, meaning, and love in moments that are fleeting and in a life that is in a constant state of flux.

    Joel discusses each track off the record detailing the different stories and encounters.

    Episode 33: Dear Dear: 'Death of a Fairytale'

    On this episode, Lauren is joined by the wonderful singer-songwriter, poet and fashion designer, Chase Cohl aka Dear Dear.

    Chase was introduced to music from a young age, spending much of her youth on the road with the Rolling Stones themselves.

    In 2018 she released her debut record 'Far Away and Gone'. After the  release of her 2021 Dear Dear: Volume I EP.  it became clear that this project was taking on a life of its own. This led to Chase shifting the entire project into the enigma of Dear Dear.

    As a result, in October last year, she released her debut Dear Dear album 'Death of a Fairytale'.  The wonderful 8 track record is co-produced by Loren Humphrey⁣ and co-written by Barry Goldberg (Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, Gladys Knight). 

    The record plays with a neo-soul, motown sound, heavily influenced by the girl groups of the 1960s, yet is approached with a modern sensibility.

    Episode 32: Flyte: 'Flyte'

    Episode 32: Flyte: 'Flyte'

    On this episode, Lauren is joined by the super talented English singer, songwriters Will Taylor and Nick Hill, who, together are the band Flyte.

    The pair met at secondary school, eventually settling in Hackney, London.

    In 2017 they released their debut album 'The Loved Ones' followed in 2021 by their second album 'This Is Really Going To Hurt'. After the release of two critically acclaimed albums, they have established themselves as an influential mainstay.

    After extensive touring across Europe and North America, Flyte teamed back up with Andrew Sarlo (who they worked with on their 2nd record), this time at London's famous Konk Studios, to record their most confident and collaborative work to date.

    In October 2023, they released their third, self-titled album, a beautiful record exploring love in all its early forms.

    Will and Nick chat through the record track by track, discussing the recording process as well as the host of friends and collaborators involved including Laura Marling, Billie Marten and Jessica Staveley-Taylor.

    Episode 31: Abraham Alexander: 'SEA/SONS'

    On this episode, Lauren is joined by the wonderful singer, songwriter Abraham Alexander. Born in Greece to parents of Nigerian descent, Abraham moved to Texas with his family at age 11 to escape the racial tensions they faced in his birthplace.

    His path to music came years later after a friend handed him a guitar and he unexpectedly found songs pouring out. A series of increasingly incredible chance meetings—including a life-changing encounter with Leon Bridges—led Abraham to nurture this newfound musical voraciousness.

    Since then, he has shared the stage with many wonderful artists including The Teskey Brothers, Lucius and The Lumineers.

    In April 2023, Abraham released his highly anticipated debut album 'SEA/SONS' via Dualtone Records. The album is a culmination of his own stories of loss, anguish and redemption alongside an undeniable sense of hope and healing.

    Together, Abraham and Lauren have such an open, honest conversation as he discusses the many personal stories behind the writing of the album.

    On this episode,  Lauren is joined by the brilliant Canadian singer-songwriter Hannah Georgas.

    After her debut EP in 2009, Hannah has released 4 full-length albums, touring all across the world to many sold-out shows.

    In August this year, she released her 5th studio album; 'I’d Be Lying If I Said I Didn't Care' via Real Kind Records. This was her first time self-producing her own record with the help of her partner Sean Sroka (Ten Kills the Pack), together creating the vision and balance between organic and synthetic production.

    Hannah has a wonderful ability to craft textured songs with thought provoking lyrics coupled with incredibly catchy hooks.

    Hannah discusses the process of writing her 5th record; a journey of catharsis and self-confrontation.

    Landing on the scene in 2009, Kim has toured extensively around the world, playing renowned festivals including Glastonbury. His laidback folk style continues to strike a chord with industry and fans alike.

    In January this year, Kim released his 7th studio album; ‘Dawn Sounds’, an earnest ode to the joyous peaks and liberating pits of life’s journey, celebrating sentimentality and new beginnings.

    The album is layered with acoustic guitar beds and earthy elements alongside Kim’s trademark compelling vocals and storytelling.

    Having followed Kim’s music for a long time, it was amazing to hear him chat through the many influences behind each song off the captivating record.

    Since graduating from the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, where he won the prize for best songwriter of the year and even performed in front of Sir Paul McCartney himself, Tom has supported the likes of James Bay, Stereophonics and Maisie Peters.

    In 2019, he released his debut album ‘Collide’, followed two years later by his 2nd album ‘Everything’s Waiting for You’, achieving well deserved recognition and even topping the charts in Brazil.

    In August this year, Tom released his amazing 3rd studio album ‘Love & Light’. The album has already gathered lots of attention, featuring on many TV shows and being the BBC Radio 2 Album of the week.

    On this episode, Lauren is joined by Paris-based, UK born singer-songwriter and musician Kate Stables aka This Is The Kit.  This Is The Kit is the musical project of Kate Stables, who alongside her band of trusty companions; Rozi Plain, Neil Smith, Jamie Whitby-Coles and Jesse Vernon, have been creating and releasing a unique style of music for over 10 years.

    In June this year, This Is The Kit released their wondrous new album ‘Careful Of Your Keepers’ via Rough Trade Records. The album chronicles a world of mistakes and mishaps, cruel circumstances, and universe-driven surprises.

    The record was recorded back in December 2022 in Bristol and produced by Gruff Rhys from Super Furry Animals. Rhys captures the beautiful instrumental performances while leaving the space required for Kate Stables’ robust, silken voice to lead.

    Kate delivers yet another captivating record, filled with clever lyrics, joyous instrumentals and delightful melodies.

    Episode 24: Durand Jones: 'Wait Til I Get Over'

    Episode 24: Durand Jones: 'Wait Til I Get Over'

    On this episode, Lauren is joined by the wonderful American singer-songwriter Durand Jones. As a founding member of popular soul group Durand Jones & the Indications, the band have released 3 studio albums since 2018.

    In May this year, Durand released his debut solo album ‘Wait Til’ I Get Over’, a veneration project—an abstracted and contemporary oral tradition that passes story down from (and heaps homage upon) his hometown of Hillaryville, Louisiana.

    The album is a study into Durand’s relationship to his roots: to a Black, country, barefoot childhood; to the verdant Gulf South, leaning into the vulnerability of his singular perspective, delivering something utterly distilled and potent. 

    The record beautifully muses on the past, it equally honours his present and future as Durand has and continues to come into his own.

    Together, Durand and Lauren have a wonderful, open and honest chat about the many personal and cultural influences behind the record.
