    EPISODE 33: “You’re Thinking of Hurting Yourself, What Now?” with Marci Nettles   Hello and WELCOME to the “You’re _______, What now?” Podcast!   I am your host, Marci Nettles. I have had a lifetime of opportunities where I had the choice to Breakdown or Breakthrough... did I always make the “right” choice?  Nope.  I did however find a way to continue moving forward until I was able to see there was a path through my chaos into joy.  This Podcast may become your light in the darkness, as you listen to the stories of people I consider “heroes.” Each one had a point where they too had to choose to either Breakdown or Breakthrough!   In this episode we are going to have a one-on-one conversation about a touchy topic that many are experiencing right now... self-harm and suicide.  Did you know that Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death in young people 10-24 years of age?  So many people are crying out for help, and we are missing the signs.  As a society, we need to be better!   If you or someone you know is currently thinking of hurting themselves or ending their lives, PLEASE call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 1-800-273-8255.  In many areas, you can even dial 988 to be connected to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.   You can learn more and get resources at   Thank you for listening!     In this episode, Tom Rose and I discuss his experience of ‘Changing Grief to Love’ after his wife passed from breast cancer battle. Tom shares his dark times after her passing and how a friend helped him by suggesting he write a book that ultimately led to his healing and moving into helping others embrace the change that comes with death.   Tom Rose: After the death of his wife from breast cancer in August of 2019, encouraged by a friend, Tom wrote a book, Balloon in a Box, Coping with Grief. With that little book he caught lightening in a bottle, because suddenly he became an author and a speaker. Since releasing the book in the spring of 2022.  He has made over 100 speaking appearances to audiences of 8 to 300 at churches, service clubs, retirement communities, corporate meetings and even prisons. The experience has resulted in significant life changes.  He delivers an uplifting presentation with love, humor, and reflection.   I am your host, Marci Nettles.     In this episode, Rick DellaRatta and I revisit his experience being an eye witness to 9/11 from only a quarter mile away… He shares how he immediately had the desire and the words to turn this tragedy into a peace mission. A poem written in that devastating moment turned into ‘Jazz for Peace.’   Rick DellaRatta is now considered by many to be one of the finest Singer/Pianists performing today and one of only a handful of Jazz Artists who can make a successful musical presentation to a large audience without having to abandon the true art form of Jazz. Rick is considered to be an innovator and a visionary through his lifelong endeavor to help advance people to their highest potential through the understanding of Jazz as well as spreading peace worldwide through his "Jazz for Peace World Tour."  Included in the tour were historic performances in the US, Europe, Africa, and Brazil as well as his landmark Jazz for Peace concert at the United Nations in New York in 2002 uniting Israeli, Palestinian and American musicians in concert is now considered one of the most significant cultural events of our time! This U.N.     In this episode, Linda Strader and I talk about her being a woman pioneering the field of Forest Service fire fighting and her experience being one of the first women in a career that had previously been only for men. Linda shares her love for her career that ended way sooner than she had wanted and how she had to pivot in her thinking of how she would earn a living, keep her house, and bring a service to others that she had not considered before.   Originally from Syracuse, New York, Linda Strader moved to Prescott, Arizona with her family in 1972. In 1976, she became one of the first women hired on a U.S. Forest Service fire crew. Summers of Fire: A Memoir of Adventure, Love and Courage, was released on May 1st, 2018 by Bedazzled Ink Publishing. The prequel to Summers of Fire, Uprooted: A New Life In The Arizona Sun, was released by Bedazzled Ink Publishing on December 1st, 2021. Linda holds two degrees: a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, and a Master’s in Planning from the University of Arizona. In addition to writing, she is a landscape architect, certified arborist, and watercolor artist. She currently lives in the same area where her Forest Service career began.   I am your host, Marci Nettles.
