Episode 57: Finding Health and Well-Being After Stillbirth with Erin Tennant

Can you imagine experiencing an unimaginable loss and finding a way to turn it into a journey of self-discovery and wellness?

Our guest, Erin Tennant, a certified health and wellness coach, takes us along on her life-altering journey. Erin experienced the heartbreaking loss of her son, Max, at seven months gestation. Instead of letting it break her, she used this devastating experience as a catalyst for personal transformation, losing 130 pounds and launching her own health and wellness business, Grow Well Coaching.

In the first half of this episode, Erin and I delve into the raw emotions surrounding the loss of a loved one. We discuss the importance of self-acceptance during the grieving process and Erin gives us a glimpse into her own body image journey after suffering a loss. We contrast this with another person's story of feeling betrayed by their body after a similar experience. Erin emphasizes the power of transformation and honoring emotions around loss, while also acknowledging the struggles of grieving and finding acceptance.

As we move forward in our journey of grief and healing, Erin highlights the significance of self-care and reaching out for support. We discuss the importance of grieving, allowing oneself to feel and process the emotions that come with it. Erin also shares about the symbols of remembrance and healing that have provided her comfort and touch on the significance of creating meaningful memorials and rituals.

In the final stages of our discussion, Erin focuses on promoting support for parents who have experienced stillbirth loss, sharing her own experiences and the comfort she finds in sharing stories about Max.

This episode is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of personal tragedy.

Episode 52: Beyond the Cliches: Navigating Grief and Support with Empathy

Episode 52: Beyond the Cliches: Navigating Grief and Support with Empathy

Have you ever felt the searing pain of losing a child? I have. And so has my guest today, Suzanne Jabour, a grief educator and coach who tragically lost her 22-year-old son, Ben. As parents, we know that the death of a child defies the natural order of life, leaving us grappling with a unique type of sorrow. We explore the profound impact this type of loss has on a parent's identity and how, amidst such devastating loss, life can regain meaning and possibility.

Fear in times of loss, often prevents us from being there for others who are grieving. Suzanne and I unpack this fear, revealing how one can show up authentically for the grieving process. We believe that grief provides a unique opportunity to be real, to be imperfect, and to form deep connections. We share our thoughts on how to navigate through the platitudes and cliches often associated with grief and how to respond to insensitive comments with empathy and understanding.

But how do we practically honor the memory of our lost children while also letting go? Suzanne and I share our strategies, including revisiting places we loved with our children and keeping their presence alive in our lives. We discuss the paradox of cherishing memories while consciously releasing dreams and visions we had for their lives. This episode is an invitation for you to join us in this heartfelt conversation, to find understanding, connection, and perhaps even healing within shared experiences of grief.
