    enJuly 22, 2024
Who is the Senior Director of Admissions at Case Western Reserve University?
What podcasts does Christian Essmann appear on?
What is the minimum MCAT score required for secondary applications?
How can applicants keep their AMCAS information updated?
What three programs can applicants apply to at Case Western?

    • Medical School Admissions podcastsSenior Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Christian Essmann, shares updates and tips on medical school admissions through podcasts, including Boots to Meds and Accepted with Linda Abraham.

The Medical School Admissions process at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine is always evolving, and the Senior Director of Admissions and Financial Aid, Christian Essmann, is an active participant in that process. Essmann recently took a break from his podcast to freshen things up with new artwork and appear as a guest on other podcasts, including Boots to Meds, which focuses on veterans and military members considering medicine, and Accepted with Linda Abraham, an admissions consulting company. Applicants using the new 2425 application site should keep an eye out for these new episodes, as Essmann plans to share more updates and tips in upcoming episodes. Overall, the Medical School Admissions process requires ongoing engagement and adaptability, and Essmann's involvement in various podcasts highlights his commitment to providing valuable insights and resources to applicants.

    • Impact of All Access Med School AdmissionsThe podcast reached and influenced various medical school decision-makers, leading to potential collaborations and strengthening the network and team at Case Western Reserve University.

Impact of the All Access Med School Admissions podcast. At the National Pre-Health Advisors Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio, a session was dedicated to the show, led by Dr. Daniel White from Sienna College. This was a humbling experience for the host, as they went through the common themes discussed with deans and directors from various schools. It was a reminder of the reach and significance of the podcast, and the host had the opportunity to meet Dr. White and discuss potential future collaborations. Additionally, the conference provided an opportunity to reconnect with old friends and meet new advisors, strengthening the network and team at Case Western Reserve University.

    • Medical School Applications 2023Applications for medical school in 2023 have seen a significant increase, with some schools reporting a 20% rise. Applicants should prepare for a competitive process and expect to receive secondary applications soon.

The 2023 medical school application cycle has started off with a significant increase in applications, with some schools reporting a 20% rise in applications compared to last year. The exact cause of this increase is unclear, as it could be due to a combination of factors such as applicants applying earlier or AMCAS verifying applications faster. Regardless, medical schools are already seeing a deluge of applications, and current applicants should expect to receive secondary applications soon. At Case Western, secondaries began rolling out on July 15th, and the speaker encourages applicants to check their show notes for essay resources to help them prepare. Overall, the application cycle is off to a busy start, and applicants should be prepared for a competitive process.

    • Case Western Secondary Application PreviewApplicants can preview their secondary prompts before submitting and indicate program preferences in the application process for Case Western's MD, five-year MD, and Medical Scientist Training Programs. A minimum MCAT score of 495 is required to receive the secondary application, and communication with the admissions office can be expedited by including the MCAS ID number in email signatures.

Case Western Reserve University's secondary application process allows applicants to preview their secondary prompts before being verified, and applicants can indicate their program preferences in their secondary application. Case Western has three programs to apply to: the four-year MD program, the five-year MD program at Cleveland Clinic Learning College of Medicine, and the Medical Scientist Training Program. Applicants must have a minimum MCAT score of 495 to receive the secondary application. For current applicants, including their MCAS ID number in email signatures can help expedite communication with the admissions office. The secondary applications are reviewed separately for each program applied to, and decisions remain independent from one another.

    • AMCAS information updateKeep AMCAS information up-to-date to prevent application delays, including contact info and letters of recommendation, and include AMCAS ID number in email signature for clear communication.

The importance of keeping your Application Service for Medical Schools (AMCAS) information up-to-date throughout the application cycle. This includes your contact information, such as email and mailing addresses, as well as your letters of recommendation. By ensuring that your AMCAS information is accurate, you can avoid delays in the application process. For instance, if you need to remove a letter of recommendation that is not coming in on time, you can do so through AMCAS to prevent your application from being held up. Another tip is to include your AMCAS ID number in your email signature to facilitate clear communication with the schools. Stay tuned for upcoming episodes on Brown's special masters program and Horseshoe Farms gap year opportunity.

Episode 67: UMass Chan Medical School

I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Tracy Kedian, the Associate Dean for Admissions, at the UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester, MA. Dr. Kedian sheds light on the unique aspects of UMass Chan's curriculum, known as VISTA. This innovative curriculum fosters curiosity, inquiry, and equity through group and problem-based learning, along with extensive use of medical simulation. One exciting feature of UMass Chan is its commitment to serving underserved populations. With a focus on health disparities and public and community health, the school offers two distinct tracks with its regional campuses - the Population-based Urban and Rural Community Health track, based at Baystate Health Systems in western MA and the LEAD@Lahey track, located in Burlington, MA, that concentrates on leadership skills and health systems science to prepare future medical leaders.

Dr. Kedian also provides valuable insights into the admissions process at UMass Chan. While the school predominantly admits students from Massachusetts, it remains an excellent resource for premeds from all backgrounds. Throughout this conversation, you'll discover a wealth of helpful advice for aspiring medical students, regardless of whether UMass Chan is your state school or not. Join us as we delve into the world of UMass Chan Medical School and med school admissions with Dr. Tracy Kedian, a dedicated family physician and an expert in medical school admissions.
