    Sea Breeze

In Episode 61 I chat with Jack Tonner of  Manchester based Psych Rockers Sea Breeze about 50 quid paydays, crowd participation and musical bathrooms.

Jack along with Joel Eastwood on guitar and Huw Pearson on drums these friends have been making music for years, Jack and Joel started a rock/punk band called Torn that played gigs around the North West and France in their teenage years. Huw has years of experience in Building Giants on sell out tours and festival appearances at Kendall Calling and Highest Point.

After taking an inspirational holiday to the Portuguese town of Alvor, where they stayed in a home named The Sea Breeze, Joel and Jack decided to start a new project in 2022. They named it after their holiday home, and Sea Breeze was born. Huw joined the duo to reinforce the rhythm.

The lads just played their first live gig in supporting the Dutch Psychedlic funk masters Yin Yin at their Salford show and Jack jumped on the pod to discuss everything about the night, the rehearsals leading up to it, sharing drums on the stage, feedback from the band and a whole lot more.

In Episode 60 I chat with Niko Kapetan of  Chicago's up-and-coming Indie Rockers Friko about rare drink tickets, party weeks and hiding out in the green room.

Having signed to ATO Records, home to the likes  of King Gizzard, Altin Gun, Temples, Trey Anastasio and Primus amongst others, Friko's debut album 'Where we've been, Where we go from here' is due for release on Friday 16th February 2024.

Chock full of emotional, poetic and explosive songs and mastered by Heba Kadry (Bjork, Big Thief) it's gotten some good hype in the press pre-release and Friko are setting themselves up to have a big 2024 with plans to tour the album through North America and Europe by the year's end.

Niko joined me from Chicago's Humboldt Park neighbourhood to talk about how welcoming the Chicago scene is, being patient on stage and  bare bone songs.

    Lara Bujanda (Subterranean Prints)

In Episode 59 I chat with Illustrator and Screen Printer Lara Bujanda about not being as punk as she used to be, dying of success and the dirty corners of Berlin.

From her studio in Berlin, Lara works under her brand Subterranean Prints to create  some of the best gig poster artwork in the world today.

Having grown up in the Basque Country where she routinely found herself attending punk concerts in squats as a teenager, she moved to Oslo and founded Subterranean Prints as part of the Blitz House project.

From Oslo she moved to Berlin to continue her work in the punk and underground scenes, and has gone on to create unique art for the likes of Lankum, Molchat Doma, Mono, Brutus, King Buffalo to name but a few.

Lara joined me from her parents house in the Basque country to talk about where she gets her inspiration from, how she conceptualises each piece, what it's like dealing with artist managers and being done with Berlin....maybe....for now at least......maybe.

Mike Adams at His Honest Weight

In Episode 58 I chat with musician, songwriter, tv host and humourist Mike Adams about  unhooking your mind, avoiding pride and noisy espresso machines.

Performing under the name Mike Adams at His Honest Weight, Mike joined me from his home studio in Bloomington, Indiana where he writes and records all of his songs by himself before sending them on to his trusted friend and confidant Adam Jessup for some sprucing up.

A proud Midwestener, Mike talks about how growing up in Indiana has influenced his art and how it leads to his quintessential Americana sound, never more evident than in his most recent album Guess For Thrills which was released in October 2023.

Having gained glowing praise from outlets like Pitchfork, NPR, Brooklyn Vegan and AV Club over the course of his over decade long career Mike is showing no signs of slowing down and has more music and a  tour planned for 2024.

Mike also hosts his own podcast called Tan Van Tour Talk in which he and his bandmates talk shit while traversing the length and breadth of America in between shows and is available to listen to via his website below.
