In this week's episode of Football à la Turca Yakup and Kaan discuss the future of the Turkish national team and whether coach Senol Günes should be sacked following the 6-1 trashing at the hands of the Netherlands. They also take a look at Besiktas, Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray's draws in the Champions League and Europa League aswell as discuss some of the latest transfers as we have now reached deadline day. In addition they talk about a funny rumor that Fenerbahçe is contemplating opening a legal case against TM.com for 'undervalueing' Fenerbahçe's players and therefore damaging the club.

The 2021-2022 Süper Lig season has officially kicked off! And we're starting the season with an episode that is a bit of a recap on the early European qualifiers and opening matchday aswell as a preview for this brand new season. Yakup Marufoglu and Kaan Bayazit are joined by Özer Dindjer and show debutant Sinan Schwarting.

This episode is a bit of a freeflowing conversation between some friends catching up on the latest developments in the Turkish Footballing world, without a strict show layout. We rcontinue to recap the 2020-2021 season in part 2! In this episode Umut goes more in depth on Galatasaray's season, what went wrong and what the club needs to do to be competitive next season. We also discuss the relegations from and promotions to the Süper Lig, with Adana Demirspor, Giresunspor and Altay joining us in the Süper LIg next season. While Erzurumspor, Gençlerbirligi, Ankaragücü and Denizlispor go down (or will they?). And finally we give our opinions on which of the 30 called up internationals should be dropped to shrink the team down to the final 26-man squad size.

Unfortunately there were some technical issues where Kaan (who was recording) had his camera hooked up and the recording software picked up the sound from his camera instead of his usual microphone. So for 90% of the podcast you will be hearing a lot of background noises aswell as a lesser quality from Kaan's end.

Galatasaray eliminate Hajduk Split in the Europa League and go top of the Turkish Süper Lig after beating the reigning defending champions Istanbul Basaksehir, while both Besiktas and Fenerbahçe drop two precious points at home. Meanwhile Alexander Sörloth joins RB Leipzig and Vedat Muriqi officially joines Lazio Roma, but Fenerbahçe fans needn't wait long as the club are bringing in a replacement post-haste! Besiktas in turn have also seemingly found their man up top, as Vincent Aboubakar returns to Istanbul to undergo an extensive medical examination. Turkish football is back and so is the Football à la Turca podcast! The 2020-2021 season has officially kicked off with Rizespor - Fenerbahçe on friday, the Canaries came out on top of to start their season with 3 points. Reigning champions Istanbul Basaksehir closed the matchday on Monday by suffering a surprise defeat at the hands of newly promoted Hatayspor (who made their Süper Lig debuts). Sandwiched in between those two games we're a plethora of other results, with Galatasaray winning their opening match at home against Gaziantep while Besiktas got 3 points on the road against last season's runners-up: Trabzonspor. Who were left without last season's topscorer, Alexander Sörloth, as the Norwegian is trying to push through a move to RB Leipzig. Plenty to talk about, including a washilist of transfers!

Başakşehir win their first Süper Lig title! Malatyaspor, Kayserispor and Ankaragücü et relegated while Beşiktaş pass Sivasspor on the final matchday and, as it currently stands with Trabzonspor being banned from Europe (pending their CAS appeal) clinch that Champions League qualifier ticket. Alanyaspor and Sivasspor head to the Europa League and Galatasaray are most likely out of contention for Europe, unless Trabzonspor's ban is upheld and Alanyaspor win the Turkish cup.

This week on Football à la Turca our panel reflect on the results of matchday 30 & 31 in the Turkish Süper Lig season 2019-2020, as both matchdays were played in the span of a week. In these two matchdays the title race has seemingly been decided, with Trabzonspor dropping two precious points at home against Antalyaspor, while rivals Basaksehir continue their winning ways. The relegation battle and the race for the third place on the other hand continue to become more interesting by each passing matchday.

Due to the passing of his uncle Metin, our co-host Yakup was unfortunately unable to attend this week's recording. We at Football à la Turca would like to extend our sincerest condolences to Yakup and his family, may his beloved Metin amca rest in peace.
