    About this Episode

The college football season wrapped up with Georgia taking home its second consecutive national title after a defeat of TCU in the playoff championship game.

Georgia’s sheer domination of the Horned Frogs begs an obvious question: Have the Bulldogs passed Alabama as the preeminent program in the sports? With a young team this season, they could be poised for a third title in a row as Kirby Smart has transformed Georgia from sleeping giant to super power.

The other big news with the offseason ahead is the departure of Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren. Where does the league go from here and how does the possibility of potential expansion?

Dan Wolken and Paul Myerberg tackle these questions and look ahead to the 2023 season in this week's version of the College Football Fix.

Finally, two sensational College Football Playoff semifinals

Finally, two sensational College Football Playoff semifinals

It took nine seasons for the College Football Playoff to produce two amazing semifinals on the same day. The year ended with underdog TCU shocking Michigan in a high-scoring, back-and-forth Fiesta Bowl. The drama didn't end there. Defending champion Georgia held off Ohio State in the Peach Bowl with a fourth-quarter rally and then a last-second field goal miss by the Buckeyes. Dan Wolken and Paul Myerberg recap all the drama from the semifinals and look ahead to the unlikely championship game matchup in this week's version of the College Football Fix.

Playoff drama, concern for Ohio State and Clemson and the coaching carousel

Playoff drama, concern for Ohio State and Clemson and the coaching carousel

The College Football Playoff race is clearing up heading into the final weekend of the regular season. Are three spots already locked up with unbeatens Georgia, Michigan and TCU able to ensure a loss? If so, does that mean Alabama is officially out and the race is only between Southern California and Ohio State?

Speaking of the Buckeyes, is there serious concern about the trend of the program under Ryan Day with two consecutive losses? The downward state of Oklahoma and Clemson also is something to keep an eye on going forward.

The coaching carousel has been spinning full speed with Nebraska, Wisconsin and Auburn all making major moves. How will Matt Rhule, Luke Fickell and Hugh Freeze are at those respective jobs?

Dan Wolken and Paul Myerberg address all these storylines and look ahead to the championship game matchups in Week 14 during the latest version of College Football Fix, the USA TODAY Sports weekly podcast.

Eye of the Tigers: LSU in control of their College Football Playoff future

Eye of the Tigers: LSU in control of their College Football Playoff future

The second College Football Playoff rankings of the season are out and there's an interesting situation developing with No. 7 LSU. The Tigers have two losses overall, but they control their destiny to reach the SEC championship game. A win there against No. 1 Georgia could make for a strong case to be part of the semifinals. Should that scenario unfold, it would come at the expense of Tennessee, which already has a dominating win at LSU this season.

Alabama and Clemson fell on the same day and both dropped out of the top six. It's the first time that's happened in the nine years of the rankings. Is there reason to worry about the future of the Crimson Tide and how they move forward as Nick Saban gets closer to the end of his tenure? And what about the Tigers? Does their insular approach create concern whether Dabo Swinney will win another national title?

The Pac-12 is firmly in the playoff mix and Oregon will have a strong case should the Ducks finish with just one loss. Also lurking is Southern California. Even though the Trojans don't have a strong resume or defense, they do have Caleb Williams, who might be the best quarterback in college football.

Dan Wolken and Paul Myerberg address all these storylines and look ahead to the biggest matchups in Week 6 during the latest version of College Football Fix, the USA TODAY Sports weekly podcast that releases every Tuesday during the season.

Winter is coming! And with it, the College Football Playoff rankings

Georgia led the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll, but the College Football Playoff committee had other thoughts with its first ranking of the season.

Tennessee was the No. 1 choice followed by Ohio State. The Bulldogs slotted in at No. 3 and face the top-ranked Vols in a crucial SEC matchup this weekend. Clemson rounded out the top four and the biggest upset was undefeated TCU falling below one-loss Alabama.

Who's afraid of the Crimson Tide?

Who's afraid of the Crimson Tide?

Tennessee toppled Alabama in the final minute of their matchup over the weekend. Coach Nick Saban's play-calling at the end of the game sealed Alabama's fate. Has the Tuscaloosa legend lost his touch? Does beating the Crimson Tide mean what it used to? And will we see Alabama in the College Football Playoff National Championship?

Midway through the season, it's time to see which championship contenders are the real deal in a season without a clear No. 1.
