    About this Episode

We finally tackle the spirit that Alex has been dreading since the worst hangover of his life - Gin. But thanks to Jackson's creativity behind the bar, and his ability to infuse the botanical beverage with flavors like Oolong Tea, Pear, Peach, and more, we regard it as our most refreshing episode yet.

A perfect start to the summer, we're pairing it with a genre we forgot we knew so much about - Jazz Fusion. Pour yourself a some cool clear floral spirit and learn about the likes of Miles Davis's early explorations into rock music, the pure energy of the Brecker Brothers, and the jazz-pop sensibilities of Weather Report.

Frank Sinatra and a "Dealer's Choice" of Old School Drinks

Frank Sinatra and a "Dealer's Choice" of Old School Drinks

We dove into the music of Old Blue Eyes, and one of his most lush, introspective, and velvety records, 1959's "No One Cares," and did a little old-school cocktail lottery. Learn why some of the old drinks your grandpa and Frankie used to sip on by the fire have gone out of fashion, why some should come back, and why some should remain in obscurity.

Record Club 5 - Beck with a Blender

Record Club 5 - Beck with a Blender
We toast to the end of summer with one of our favorite backyard party albums, 1996s Odelay by Beck. The blend of styles and samples fit perfectly with frozen cocktails so we dusted off the blender and made ourselves some blended versions of of classic summer cocktails, including favorites like the Jungle Bird, and the Espresso Martini.

Record Club 3 - Tequila & Queens of the Stone Age (Era Vulgaris)

Record Club 3 - Tequila & Queens of the Stone Age (Era Vulgaris)

Appropriately recorded on Cinqo de Mayo, we dive into our favorite Desert Rock album, 2007's Era Vulgaris by Queens of the Stone Age. Skye works his magic with Tequila to deliver some unique riffs on the Paloma and the Old Fashioned, and manages to curate a tasty menu without resorting to a Margarita.

This is a heavy record with some even heavier drinks. Enjoy the spirits, enjoy the sounds, and have fun out there.

Record Club 2 - Daiquiris with the Doobies

Record Club 2 - Daiquiris with the Doobies

Be prepared for an onslaught of unsolicited Michael McDonald impression as the Club takes on the Doobie Bros' classic, 'Minute by Minute' from 1978. With the record that years later would later become known as the cornerstone album of Yacht Rock, we riff on these smooth sounds and complex arrangements with some equally smooth, yet complex Daiquiris.

The Record Club Pilot Episode - Abbey Road & Gin

The Record Club Pilot Episode - Abbey Road & Gin

After a long hiatus, we're relaunching with a brand new "Record Club" concept.  Instead of a genre playlist and a base-spirit, we're doing a classic album from front-to-back, without stops or repeats, and pairing the experience with a set of spirits and flavors to match.

We're launching the concept with one of the most immersive vinyl experiences of all-time, The Beatles' Abbey Road.

After re-locating the studio from New York to Washington, DC, Alex is joined by cocktail aficionado Skye Frontier, and former guest-of -the-pod turned co-host Ian Burke.

We'd love to hear your feedback on this new format. Enjoy the spirits, enjoy the sounds, and have fun out there.
