Aero Club Como podcast 18 Flying solo

Aero Club Como podcast 18 Flying solo
Flying solo …? This is the dream that everybody pursues … immediately after the first training flight, sometimes it arrives immediately, after the canonical 12 hours of training … and as young as you are, as soon as it comes ….and there are students who fly solo … well before having taken their driving license.
For others, for instance, who begin later in their age… it might take a little bit longer, on seaplanes it could take few more lessons, depending on the waves and the weather … nevertheless it is one of the most important days in the career of a pilot, the most memorable, always expected, breathtaking, awaited, agonized, pursued… sometimes suffered.
As soon as that day comes, it is worthly all the sacrifices faced. In this podcast you will hear the voices of Luca Ronchetti, our great Luca, thereafter, Simone Gallo, who recently obtained his Private Pilot Licence in Como, and Davide Figini and Emanuele D’Auria, students of our flying school.
Do you remember your first solo flight…? do you want to share your emotions and memories? You can write at press@aeroclubcomo.it, I repeat press@aeroclubcomo.it

Aero Club Como podcast 16 Why Women fly ... the WASP case ... and thereafter ...Isabella Aiulfi Pontillo and Monica La Terra
Why women fly… women started flying from day one… after the Wright Brothers started capturing the attention of the media … if you remember there was a very famous candid camera on women airline pilots, but … women are so determined and they can excel and they can be very good pilots … and take the risk, the intelligence, the self irony … to persevere …
Today women are astronauts, fighter pilots … airline pilots, instructors, airplanes owners.
And they put all their energies to gain authority and respect. That was the WASP case, during the Second World War, an acronym, WASP, created by Eleanor Roosevelt in 1939, for Women Airline Service Pilots.
We will hear a reportage of a pilot, who served that corps.
Aero Club Como always welcomed women and if we think of a ... golden age like the 50’s …we have a beautiful picture of four women pilots, members of Aero Club Como, from the first volume of Volare a Como by Cesare Bay. Here the names: Gisella Belgeri, Selene Maltini, Piera Taroni and Cecilia Riva, defined as Graces of the Sky.
In this episode you will hear the voices of a young pilot Isabella Aiulfi Pontillo and a student of our Flying School Monica La Terra, revealing why they fly…

Aero Club Como podcast 15 art, music, literature and flying: Abele Vadacca & Giuseppe Guin

Aero Club Como podcast 15 art, music, literature and flying: Abele Vadacca & Giuseppe Guin
There is a liaison between art and the art of flying, literature and the magic of flying, music and the sound of the engines, there is a wonder, a poetry, a sort of Romanticism, which makes all these disciplines, art, literature, music, the ability to be a pilot… sisters … but there is a Muse missing… in the Ancient Greek Times the Muses were nine… Iris, for instance, wasn’t one of the Muses. Iris was the goddess of the rainbow and messenger of the gods, but she could fly and she could connect the Earth with Mount Olympus…
This time we opened our microphones to two artists, celebrities: Abele Vadacca, sculptor, painter and restorer of the antique sculptures of La Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano... The Cathedral in Milan … from Bellagio he always sees our seaplanes flying above his head and his atelier… he flew with us and it is not rare to meet him at the dinners organized by pilots and friends… he mentions a very famous quote from Leonardo da Vinci, who also lived close to Torno: “Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the Earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.”
Another author will then describe our seaplanes, a writer, renown in Como, who lives in Faggeto Lario, in a place called ‘Il Rudere’, for the English audience The Writers’Nest. The Writer’s Nest is the ancient refuge of stone quarrymen, built at the end of the 19th century, inside a stone quarry, dated back to the Roman Times. Giuseppe Guin wrote several novels set there and described, in details, like a sculptor, all the legends anchored to the villages…. and always portrays, in his stories, real people, real ‘Gente di Lago’… by reading his novels you can immerge yourself in the plots and you can live events, which are in part real and in part legends …
Both, Abele Vadacca and Giuseppe Guin, are friends of Aero Club Como and always turn their eyes to the sky… when the remote sound of an engine announces the arrival of a seaplane...

Aero Club Como podcast 14 Flying with the pilot episode 4 windscreen wipers on the Aircrafts and condensation trails
Another podcast with ‘In Volo con il Pilota’, Flying with the pilot, with one of our top instructors Carlo Novati, who is Airline Pilot, Helicopter Pilot & Flight Instructor (TRI - FI - IRI - CRI - MCCI), in collaboration with Space Tv Interactive. This time two are the topics approached by Carlo: Windscreen Wipers on the Aircrafts and … the striking and the beautiful trails very often formed in the sky by aircrafts, that… received a variety of names, in the history of aviation, but just to avoid confusion, it was agreed, in 1941, to call them simply 'Condensation Trails'.

Aero Club Como podcast 13 Stories from instructors: Francesco Cereda and Carlo Novati

Aero Club Como podcast 13 Stories from instructors: Francesco Cereda and Carlo Novati
Today, two short stories from two instructors of our team: Francesco Cereda and Carlo Novati, they are going to reveal how they became instructors … whilst busy in their career of pilots and commanders. More than 15.000 hours of flight Francesco and more than 12.000 hours of flight Carlo. But, within the team of instructors at Aero Club Como, we definitely would like to mention a few names, the pillars of our Flying School: Francesco Cereda, Renato Carnabuci, Marco De Vitis, Gabriele Ermecini, Carlo Novati, Luca Arienti, Piermario Lovisolo, Matteo Francone, Paolo Cavenago and others, who often come to join them. Many of them are Airline Pilots and fly all over the world. They have charisma, the charm that fascinates both female and male students. They are our guardian angels, every day there, to support our training, to give us answers, in real time, to explain how they learnt and how we could learn in a better and in an easier way. They are there, never tired, always to motivate or help us in overcoming emotions, problems, uncertainties, doubts, even when our nerves break. They keep our secrets and guide and monitor, day by day, our progresses. Aero Club Como Web-Radio

Aero Club Como podcast 12, 90 years of Aero Club Como, Chuck Yeager, Giulio Reiner... history
90 years of Aero Club Como
Two events deserve to be mentioned… not probably linked with each other, but close in time and in importance. The first one is the death, few weeks ago, of Chuck Jaeger (1923 - 2020) the first man, who managed, when he was just 24 years old, to break the speed of sound, a sonic boom in the history of human aviation. The second event is the 90th anniversary from the Foundation of Aero Club Como, which had an important Commander, living and flying in Como, Giulio Reiner (1915 - 2002), who, local legends pass to us, also broke the speed of sound … In this podcast, the touching words of Giuseppe Dosi, our historical memory, will revive some events happened to Giulio Reiner, and after Beppe Dosi, our past President Giorgio Porta, who also flew with Reiner, will remember him. In the past months our intention was to celebrate our 90th anniversary, unfortunately, due also to the pandemic situation, we couldn’t, so we are looking forward to revealing more anecdotes from our intense and vibrating history… We are grateful to Lake Como Tv for the beautiful features realized last summer in the hangar, two episodes with Martina, that you can find on Lake Como Tv web site, and we are grateful to this broadcaster, for the courtesy of collecting the interview with Beppe Dosi. Thank you Lake Como Tv!
