Learning from this discussion with Tristan Tate is his belief that money and big interests control the world. He shares his experiences of being imprisoned and canceled, which he believes have connected him to powerful individuals and given him a unique perspective. Tristan expresses his skepticism towards those proposing radical political systems and instead focuses on making micro-level changes, such as inspiring people to prioritize their health. He also shares his sponsorship of AG1, a company that helps him maintain his mental focus and overall well-being. Despite his cynical view of those in power, Tristan emphasizes the importance of personal growth and success, even if the larger system remains unchanged.

    • Understanding the impact of decisions and leading with empathyEffective leaders prioritize their people's well-being, make personal sacrifices, and have a deep understanding of the systems they lead to avoid missteps and corruption.

Effective leadership requires understanding the consequences of decisions and being willing to make personal sacrifices. The speaker expressed a desire to be a moral leader who would prioritize the well-being of his people over profits and power. He criticized current world leaders for prioritizing their own interests and sending others to fight their wars. He suggested that leaders should lead their own soldiers into battle to truly understand the impact of their decisions. Additionally, the speaker believed that those in power may not fully comprehend the complexities and challenges of the systems they are leading, leading to potential missteps and corruption. The speaker's perspective emphasizes the importance of empathy, self-sacrifice, and a deep understanding of the systems one is leading in effective leadership.

    • The political system favors those with financial powerThe speaker argues that the political system is biased towards those with money, making it difficult for new ideas and individuals to bring about change.

The political system is heavily influenced by money, and it's a challenge for individuals with new ideas to bring about significant change. The speaker believes that most democracies operate in the interest of those with financial power, rather than being truly of the people and for the people. He shares his personal experience of investing in watches and introduces his watch dealer as a way for listeners to protect their money. The speaker expresses his desire for new faces and ideas in government but acknowledges the difficulty of bringing about change in systems like the UK, where power lies with the parties that win the most seats in parliament. He expresses admiration for figures like Nigel Farage, who he believes have the potential to bring about change but questions whether they will be able to do so within the existing political framework. Overall, the speaker's message is that the political system is broken and that significant change is difficult to achieve, but that it's important for individuals to continue advocating for new ideas and fighting for what they believe in.

    • Nigel Farage's Challenges in Forming a New Party and the Paradox of Money and MoralityNigel Farage may struggle to form a new party and win elections, but money doesn't inherently corrupt, revealing true character instead. Capitalism can make it easier for unscrupulous individuals to amass wealth, but using it to acquire tangible assets is advised.

Nigel Farage, the former UKIP leader, would find it challenging to form a new party and win a general election due to the difficulty of getting a large number of seats. Instead, he might consider joining the Conservatives. Another topic discussed was the paradox of money and morality. Alan Watts and Robert Kiyosaki agreed that money doesn't inherently corrupt people but rather reveals their true character. They acknowledged that capitalism, as a system, can make it easier for unscrupulous individuals to accumulate wealth, but they suggested using the system to convert the intangible money into tangible assets. The conversation also touched on the idea that capitalism, as we know it, might not be real since money is not backed by anything of value. Despite these complexities, the speakers advised continuing to make the most of the monetary system and acquiring real assets.

    • The Financial System Can Be Exploitative: Empower Yourself with KnowledgeUnderstand the financial system's potential exploitative nature, learn the basics of finance, and spread financial literacy to empower yourself and others.

The current financial system can be exploitative and people are often not given the necessary education to understand it. This system is designed to make money from people without them fully realizing how, making it crucial for individuals to gain financial knowledge. The education system, controlled by this same system, often fails to teach the basics of finance, leaving many at a disadvantage. Those who try to spread financial literacy, like the speakers in this discussion, may face pushback and even legal consequences. Despite these challenges, it's essential to continue educating ourselves and others to empower people and create a more equitable financial landscape.

    • Tristan Tate's Ideal WomanTristan Tate, despite his past as a womanizer, believes he always treated women with respect and kindness. He's open to settling down but seeks a peaceful, emotionally giving partner who doesn't add stress to his life.

Tristan Tate, despite his past as a womanizer, believes he was always a gentleman towards women. He acknowledges that he dated many women and had multiple relationships, but insists he never mistreated any of them. He explains that his lifestyle then was different from his current one, and he couldn't have been warned against his actions even by his future self. When asked how a woman could keep a man like him, he describes his ideal woman as someone who brings him peace, is emotionally giving, and doesn't add stress to his life. He also mentions that he's open to settling down but isn't in a rush, and his drinking habits have changed. Overall, Tate's perspective is that he lived his life as he saw fit, but he treated women with respect and kindness.

    • The speaker's views on alcohol and personal growthThe speaker's past experiences with alcohol and relationships have evolved, now seeing them as enhancements rather than fillers, shaped by formative moments in his life, driven by enjoyment and curiosity, not desperation.

The speaker's relationship with alcohol and his past experiences have evolved over time. He no longer sees it as a central part of his social life or a means to fill emotional voids, but rather as an enhancement to deep conversations with friends. His past experiences, including his time in jail, have served as formative moments in his life, shaping his character and self-perception. While some people may use substances or relationships to mask inner emptiness, the speaker emphasizes that his actions were driven by enjoyment and curiosity, not a desperate need to fill a void.

    • The speaker reflects on his identity and the events leading to his current situationDespite a lengthy legal case and negative media portrayal, the speaker remains confident that the truth will eventually be revealed, highlighting their good qualities and the dishonesty of the media.

The speaker, who is involved in a lengthy legal case, has come to terms with his identity and the events that led him to his current situation. He expresses frustration over not being able to share certain details about the case but promises that the truth will come out once it's over. The speaker also acknowledges the infamy he and his brother have gained, but emphasizes their good qualities and the dishonesty of the media in portraying them negatively. The speaker is surprised by the extent of the negative depiction but remains unfazed, viewing it as part of the process. The case's prolonged duration and the orchestration behind it are what the speaker believes will shock people the most when the truth is revealed.

    • Understanding People Beyond MisconceptionsDespite negative publicity, Andrew's core message is about treating others well. Misconceptions about him and his relationships are clarified, emphasizing openness and sharing personal stories as lessons for young men.

Despite the lies and negative publicity, Andrew's core message is about being better and treating others well. The speaker acknowledges the shock of the situation but emphasizes that it doesn't affect them or Andrew. They also address common misconceptions about them and their relationship with Andrew, clarifying that they don't hate women or look down on them. The speaker expresses their openness and shares an embarrassing story from their past as a lesson for young men about having a big ego. Overall, the conversation highlights the importance of understanding people beyond negative stereotypes and misconceptions.

    • The consequences of pridePride can lead to unintended consequences and embarrassment. It's important to approach situations with humility and respect for the unknown.

Pride can lead to humiliating situations. The man in this story believed he was in control, but a simple misunderstanding at a hotel led to a mortifying experience. He assumed he could manipulate the situation to get back with his ex-girlfriend, but instead, he was left feeling embarrassed and ashamed. This incident serves as a reminder that our actions, no matter how well-intended, can have unintended consequences. It's important to be aware of our pride and to approach situations with humility and respect for the unknown. Additionally, the man's fear of being embarrassed or humiliated is a common fear for many people. However, it's essential to remember that everyone makes mistakes and experiences embarrassing moments. Instead of letting fear hold us back, we should learn from our experiences and use them as opportunities for growth.

    • Personal experiences and statistics influence decision makingRecognize the impact of personal experiences and statistics on decision making. Show appreciation and kindness to others to make a positive impact.

People make decisions based on various factors, including personal experiences, statistics, and perceived risks. The speaker shares his personal reasons for avoiding helicopters and acknowledges the statistics that support the high risks associated with them. He also discusses his concerns for his safety and the safety of others, such as Andrew Tate, and expresses his belief that there is not enough appreciation and kindness in the world. The speaker emphasizes the importance of showing appreciation to others and making a positive impact within one's own community. Despite potential dangers, he believes that individuals can make a difference by focusing on the things they can control and expressing gratitude towards others.

    • The best form of revenge is successSuccess can be a fulfilling way to move forward after being treated poorly, rather than holding onto anger or seeking physical revenge.

Treating people poorly can leave a lasting impression and potentially lead to regret. The speaker shares an experience of a rude customer who belittled him when he was young, and how he has since surpassed that person's success. He emphasizes the importance of kindness and how success can serve as a form of revenge, not out of spite but as a natural consequence of hard work and determination. The speaker also mentions that holding onto anger and seeking physical revenge is not worthwhile and can be damaging. Instead, focusing on personal growth and achieving success is a more productive and fulfilling way to move forward. The speaker's experiences have taught him that success is the best form of revenge and leaves him feeling amazing when he can reward the hard work of those around him.

    • Money as a tool for happiness and fulfillmentMoney can provide opportunities and resources for greater happiness and fulfillment, including better healthcare and helping more people. It's a tool, not a guarantee of happiness.

Money may not directly buy happiness, but it can provide opportunities and resources that can lead to greater happiness and fulfillment. The speaker argues that people who claim money doesn't buy happiness often focus on their personal relationships and possessions, but they could do more and help more people if they had more resources. Money can also be used to improve health and access better healthcare, which is crucial for overall well-being. The speaker acknowledges that wealth does not guarantee happiness or health, but having financial security can provide peace of mind and more opportunities to live a fulfilling life. Additionally, the speaker points out that the issue of underpaid public servants, such as nurses, is not a problem with wealthy individuals but with the public institutions that pay them. Overall, the speaker's perspective is that money is a tool that can be used to enhance happiness and well-being, and it's important to recognize this rather than making sweeping generalizations about its value or lack thereof.

    • Misunderstanding Resource AllocationPeople often criticize high salaries in sports and entertainment, but they overlook the revenue generated through merchandise sales and fan engagement. Similarly, we should consider natural variations in human behavior and emotionality before medicalizing conditions and focusing on improving teaching methods and addressing root causes.

Our society places significant attention and financial resources on certain areas, like sports and entertainment, while overlookng others, like healthcare and education. This imbalance can lead to misunderstandings and misallocation of resources. For instance, people may criticize the high salaries of athletes and football players, but they are unaware of the role they play in generating revenue through merchandise sales and fan engagement. Similarly, conditions like ADHD are often medicalized and treated with medication, but it's important to consider the natural variation in human behavior and emotionality and avoid labeling normal states as diseases. Instead, we should focus on improving teaching methods and addressing the root causes of issues like lack of focus and poor parenting. Ultimately, it's crucial to broaden our understanding of how things work and where our attention and resources are most needed.

    • Finding joy in making others happyMen should prioritize making others happy over personal happiness, deriving satisfaction from their role as providers and servants in their families and communities, and seeking guidance from older generations.

Men should focus on making others happy rather than chasing personal happiness as the primary purpose of life. The speaker, who had a favorite subject in science but didn't become a scientist, found joy in making those around him happy. He emphasized that men are the providers and servants in their families and communities, deriving satisfaction from seeing the happiness of those around them. The speaker also acknowledged the importance of older generations, especially fathers, as sources of guidance and wisdom. However, he expressed fear and sadness at the thought of losing his aging father, recognizing that the natural order of life can bring both expected and unexpected challenges. Overall, the speaker's perspective emphasizes the importance of selflessness, service, and the role of older generations in shaping the lives of younger men.

    • Tristan's resilience rooted in upbringing and personal choicesTristan believes in staying strong amidst hardships and sees current challenges as part of human history, encouraging resilience and adaptability.

Tristan believes his ability to withstand hardships and maintain a strong facade is a result of a combination of his upbringing and personal choices. He has never been close to reaching his breaking point, even during challenging experiences like jail time or accusations of human trafficking. He sees the current world situation as just another chapter in the larger story of human history, and encourages perspective by reminding us that many civilizations and ways of life have ended throughout history. Despite the potential for nuclear weapons to cause mass destruction, Tristan doesn't believe we are any closer to the end of the world than we have been before. Instead, he encourages resilience and adaptability in the face of adversity.

    • Surviving Technological AgesDespite potential for misuse, human race has thrived through various technological ages, learning from past mistakes and striving for greater good

While history shows us instances of potential catastrophe, such as the Cuban Missile Crisis, the world has continued to progress, and the fear of existential threats, like nuclear weapons or advanced AI, should be balanced with the potential benefits these technologies can bring. The human race has survived and thrived through various technological ages, from the Bronze Age to the age of electricity, despite the potential for misuse. The belief that good will ultimately triumph over evil is a common perspective, but it's important to acknowledge that both good and evil exist and that progress and setbacks are part of the human experience. The key is to continue moving forward, learning from past mistakes, and striving to use technology for the greater good.

    • Preserving Life and Cultural DiversityHumanity's role as Earth's stewards requires us to preserve life and cultural diversity, while respecting national boundaries and recognizing the value of cultural differences.

The future of life on Earth and beyond depends on humanity's ability to preserve and protect our own species and the diversity of cultures that make up our global community. The forces of evil, which seek to destroy life and the Earth, are constantly present, but the overall goal is for good to triumph. Humanity's unique position as the stewards of Earth's life forms gives us a greater responsibility than any other species. However, the preservation of cultures and respect for national boundaries is crucial for the continued evolution and innovation of human society. While some may argue for a borderless world, it is important to recognize the value and importance of cultural diversity and the role it plays in shaping our languages, inventions, and ways of thinking. Ultimately, the goal is to strike a balance between the preservation of life and the celebration of cultural diversity.

    • Respecting Sovereignty and ConsentEvery country should protect its culture and values, consent isn't always explicit, and education and accountability are key to preventing sexual assault.

Every country should have the right to define and protect its own culture and values, including who can and cannot reside within its borders. Additionally, consent in sexual encounters is often given implicitly and cannot be effectively policed through paperwork or apps. Instead, education and strict punishment for rapists and false accusers are the most effective solutions. It's important to respect consent and understand that it is not always explicitly stated, but can be inferred through actions and body language. The world has become overly focused on regulating human behavior, but ultimately, the best approach is to teach individuals to respect each other and hold those who commit heinous crimes accountable.

    • Respecting boundaries and authenticity in relationshipsFocus on personal growth and authenticity to attract and maintain healthy, consensual relationships

Consent is a crucial aspect of sexual relationships, and it's important for individuals to respect their partners' boundaries. The discussion also touched upon the limitations of consent laws and the importance of personal growth and authenticity in attracting partners. While there's no magic formula for "getting good with women," the speakers emphasized the importance of hard work, self-improvement, and authenticity. Ultimately, the key to success with women, or in any area of life, is to become the best version of yourself. As one speaker put it, "You don't need tips. You're in great shape, you got a 6 pack, you're worth $10,000,000, you look smart, you look sharp, you showered that morning, You've read a lot of books, a lot of literature. You've listened to a lot of audio books, watched a lot of documentaries. You've got interesting things to say. All the things that builds a great man." By focusing on personal growth and authenticity, individuals can attract and maintain healthy, consensual relationships.

    • There's no shortcut to attracting women or finding a good partnerImprove yourself, focus on authenticity, and put in the effort to become an attractive and successful person. For women, be selective in partners and define what makes a good man for a long-term relationship.

There's no magic formula or quick fix for attracting women or finding a good partner. It requires effort, self-improvement, and authenticity. Tristan Tate, despite his current situation, emphasizes that he's done the hard work to become an attractive and successful person, which now puts him in a position to meet women more easily. However, for those who haven't put in the work, it's important to understand that there's no shortcut. Instead, focus on improving yourself, building a strong sense of humor, articulation, intellect, and body. Women, like men, are attracted to what they find appealing, and everyone has unique qualities that make them desirable. Additionally, when considering advice for women on finding a good man, it's essential to define what makes a good man and what "getting" means. A good man is someone who is attractive, smart, charming, and capable of providing and caring for a partner. "Getting" refers to a long-term relationship with the potential for marriage. So, for women, avoiding a high body count and being selective in partners are crucial steps towards finding a good man.

    • Authenticity and Marriage Intentions MatterBe genuine in relationships, prioritize marriage intentions, and respect others' choices while focusing on personal preferences and values.

Entering relationships with the goal of marriage and being authentic in one's actions towards potential partners are essential for women seeking meaningful connections. The speaker emphasizes that there is no need to be hateful towards women who live differently, as everyone has unique experiences and paths in life. Regarding body count, the speaker suggests that there are no definitive rules, and what matters most is finding compatibility, love, and honesty in a relationship. Ultimately, the speaker encourages individuals to focus on their personal preferences and values while respecting others' choices.

    • Honesty is essential for building and maintaining connectionsThis individual values honesty above all else and cannot tolerate deceit, as it undermines trust and integrity in relationships

Honesty is a non-negotiable value for this individual. He has a strong ability to discern dishonesty and cannot tolerate it, whether it's in romantic relationships or friendships. He believes that deceit undermines trust and integrity, and he cuts off people who try to present a false image of themselves. This principle applies even if the deceit is about something seemingly insignificant, like a past sexual history or financial background. The individual's experience has taught him that honesty is essential for building and maintaining meaningful connections.

    • Initial reactions to words reveal perspectives and experiencesOur first thoughts on words can be influenced by personal experiences, biases, and beliefs, revealing insights into our perspectives and understanding of the world.

Our initial reactions to certain words or concepts can reveal a lot about our perspectives and experiences. During a discussion, the speakers shared their first thoughts on words like "more," "LGBTQ plus," "man," "women," and "misogyny," among others. Their responses ranged from personal to philosophical, showcasing the complexity and diversity of human thought. For instance, when asked about the word "more," one speaker mentioned feeling bored, while another associated it with peace and Tolstoy's War and Peace. When asked about "LGBTQ plus," one speaker reacted with the word "insane," while another saw it as a misunderstood term. The conversation also touched on the speakers' feelings towards women, with one expressing an obsession and the other feeling misunderstood by the term "misogyny." The discussion covered various topics, including their opinions on figures like Piers Morgan, Donald Trump, and Andrew, as well as their thoughts on concepts like depression and mental health. Throughout the conversation, it became clear that our initial reactions to words and concepts can be influenced by our personal experiences, biases, and beliefs. By sharing and exploring these reactions, we can gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world around us.

    • Misunderstood Personality of Andrew TateAndrew Tate is a kind, generous person, and misconceptions about his aggression or abrasiveness are not accurate. He fights not for clout or viral hits, but for a greater mission in life.

Andrew, despite any misunderstandings or jokes, is a kind, generous, and wonderful person. His actions and character are often misunderstood, and he is a great guy who would do anything for anyone within his power. The misconceptions about him, such as his supposed aggression or abrasiveness, are not accurate. As for fighting the Paul brothers, the speaker believes they need the attention and money more than he does, and he has nothing to prove to them. He is known as a fighter, and his reputation precedes him, unlike Logan Paul's. The speaker also clarified that he is not interested in fighting for clout or viral internet hits, but rather, his mission in life is bigger than that.

    • The UK's Current State and Historical PerspectiveThe speaker criticizes the UK's current state, blaming immigration and historical events for issues like crime and rape, while expressing frustration with the focus on minor problems and advocating for addressing fundamental issues instead.

The speaker believes that the current state of the UK is abysmal, and he believes that immigration, when not done properly, has contributed to issues such as increased crime and rape. He also expresses frustration with the focus on minor issues like emissions zones, while more fundamental problems are not being addressed. The speaker also shares his perspective on historical events and the concept of generational guilt, believing that people should not be held responsible for actions that happened before they were born. He also mentions his personal experiences as a descendant of various ethnicities and his belief that apologies are not necessary for events that occurred long ago. Overall, the speaker expresses a deep concern for the UK and a desire for it to address its fundamental issues rather than focusing on minor matters.

    • Frustration towards societal climate of shame and reparationsThe speaker expresses concern over the societal pressure on white British men to feel ashamed of their heritage and pay reparations, defending the monarchy and Christianity as significant aspects of British history, and sympathizing with Prince Harry's struggles while acknowledging greater hardships faced by others.

The speaker expresses frustration and disappointment towards the current societal climate in which people, particularly white British men, are made to feel ashamed of their heritage and are expected to pay reparations for historical wrongdoings. He believes that the monarchy and Christianity, two significant aspects of British history, are under attack and need to be defended. He suggests that handing the crown to a less controversial figure like Prince William could help save the monarchy, and he expresses sympathy for Prince Harry despite his actions against the royal family. The speaker also acknowledges the struggles and resilience of people who have faced harderships than Harry.

    • Personal experiences do not define one's characterIndividuals are responsible for their actions, regardless of past experiences. Normal conversations about appearances are not inherently racist, and taking risks and being open to new experiences can lead to success, despite challenges.

Personal experiences, including trauma, do not excuse someone from being a good or bad person. The speaker believes that individuals are responsible for their actions, regardless of their past. Additionally, the speaker strongly opposes labeling people as racist based on speculation or assumptions about their children's appearances. Instead, they argue that such conversations are normal and not inherently racist. Another key takeaway is the importance of taking risks and being open to new experiences, even if they come with challenges and uncertainties. The speaker shares his experience of moving to a new country and facing adversity, but ultimately finding success. Lastly, the speaker emphasizes the harsh reality that society may not care about men's struggles and experiences as much as they might assume. This is a brutal but important lesson for young men to learn.

    • The unpredictability of life's attention and adorationLife's focus can shift unexpectedly, but staying focused on personal goals can help navigate the ebbs and flows of attention and adoration.

Life's attention and adoration can shift unexpectedly, leaving individuals feeling overlooked and alone. This is a universal experience, not just for men, but also for women, and it can happen at various stages in life. The speaker shares his own experience of going from being adored as a child to being tolerated and eventually on one's own. He draws a parallel to a woman's prime sexual age and the attention she receives, and how it can fade over time. He also shares that he doesn't let words or threats upset him, but it's the intentions of people that can be hurtful. The best advice he's ever received is to never take drugs, as he believes it could have derailed his momentum towards success. The worst advice, according to him, is the notion that one's time will come and that they should be patient, as it can be demotivating and unrealistic. Overall, the speaker encourages resilience and staying focused on personal goals despite the ebbs and flows of attention and adoration in life.

    • Embrace life fully, don't let regrets or pressure hold you backEmbrace life's experiences, learn from past regrets, and don't let societal pressure dictate your happiness

Relying on the Internet for reassurance during tough times or believing in the cliché that "all our graves are the same size" can hinder personal growth and happiness. Instead, it's essential to embrace life and make the most of every moment, just as if you were in the front row of a movie theater enjoying the experience fully. A regret from the past, such as quitting the violin, can haunt you and make you yearn for what could have been. Overthinking is a part of life, and trying to stop it may not be effective. Instead, embrace it as a superpower and keep pushing forward. Don't let regrets or the pressure to conform hold you back from living your best life.

    • Perspective from the less fortunate builds mental strengthObserving others' suffering can foster gratitude and resilience, while disruption can be used for positive change. The Real World offers valuable lessons for success.

Having a perspective of those who are less fortunate can help build mental strength. The speaker shares his experience of being in jail and witnessing the suffering of others during natural disasters, making him realize the importance of being grateful for what he has and not complaining about his own situation. He also emphasizes the power of disruption, which can be used for good or evil, and encourages using it for positive change. Lastly, he introduces "The Real World," a community where real-life millionaires teach lessons and share methods for success, emphasizing its value and resilience despite attempts to shut it down.

    • Exploring the digital world leads to real-world opportunitiesStaying active on social media and conducting online searches can uncover valuable resources and connections, leading to new experiences and learning opportunities in the real world

The importance of staying connected in the digital world to access real-world opportunities. Tristan mentioned that he found "Join the Real World" through a Google search, which led him to a talisman link on Twitter. He emphasized his gratitude for the conversation and the time spent, highlighting the value he gained from it. Although the specifics of the context are unclear, it's evident that being active on social media platforms and conducting online searches can lead to discovering valuable resources and connections. So, keep exploring the digital realm, as it may open doors to new experiences and learning opportunities in the real world.

Rob and Mark also discuss why they feel the UK has gone soft, the impact big money and financing has made to football and more incredible stories from his career as a footballer and presenter.

    Mark Lawrenson Reveals:

    • Why the BBC Sacked him
    • The differences between male and female football
    • Why TV and the country has gone ‘too soft’
    • What it was like to play for Liverpool
    • Why being told he couldn’t play football drove him to his ultimate success
    • The negative impact of big money and finance on football
    • A shocking story surrounding Maxwell's alleged murder by Mossad

    BEST MOMENTS

“Really good [football] commentary makes a huge difference”

    “The country is knackered”

"Bob Paisley comes down from upstairs, takes him a couple of minutes and everything. Walks in. Complete hush, respect... Where's Alan Kennedy? And one of the lads had gone, 'Oh, he's over here.' So, Bob strolled over and looked at him, and he said, 'Do you know what, Alan? They shot the wrong fucking Kennedy.'"

"I'd get slaughtered sometimes, fair enough, doesn't particularly bother me. And then I'd meet somebody and then they say to me, 'Oh you're completely different from what you, when you're commentating,' and I go, 'No I'm not. I'm just the same.'"

"One of the problems with the BBC was that they don't really understand things like you've been a footballer and sometimes you get left out. And you get taken off the pitch. And it's as though they can't tell you the bad news."

"My biggest disruption was my mum leaving us... We never knew. My mum always said to us, 'You, I'll never tell you what happened, but you would have done the same thing.'"

"Robert Maxwell owns Derby, Kevin Maxwell owns Oxford... He looked at me and he said, 'What's your problem?' I imagine that, and it just all came out, and I called him every name under the sun. And he looked at me, and he went, 'I quite like you actually.'”

Ep307 - Anand Giridharadas | Winners Take All

Anand Giridharadas visits Google to discuss his book "Winners Take All: The Elite Charade of Changing the World."

Anand Giridharadas takes us into the inner sanctums of a new gilded age, where the rich and powerful fight for equality and justice any way they can—except ways that threaten the social order and their position atop it. The book argues that elites rebrand themselves as saviors of the poor; that they lavishly reward so-called thought leaders who redefine “change” in ways that preserve the status quo; and that they constantly seek to do more good, but never less harm.

Giridharadas asks hard questions: for example, why should our gravest problems be solved by the unelected upper crust instead of the public institutions eroded by lobbying and tax dodging? His groundbreaking investigation has already forced a great, sorely needed reckoning among the world’s wealthiest and those they hover above, and it points toward an answer: Rather than rely on scraps from the winners, we must take on the grueling democratic work of building more robust, egalitarian institutions.
