    About this Episode

This is part 2 where Lindsay shares more what she's witnessed, after over 4 years of coaching women in betrayal trauma: the stark parallels of women experiencing betrayal trauma and people experiencing betrayal trauma in high- demand religions.

Lindsay get's personal on this episode, perhaps more personal than she has in her entire life. Her personal work in this sphere has been some of the most vulnerable work she's done in her life and today, she will share details with you. In this episode Lindsay discusses:

    1) Good girl syndrome

    2) Differentiation

    3) Trauma responses

Listen to the full episode to learn and understand how all three of these concepts are present and used for/against people in high-demand religions; and how this can contribute to religious trauma.

Your host, certified life coach Lindsay Poelman started her journey of intentional healing started when she learned that her husband had been lying to her about pornography use for a greater part of their marriage.  After processing and accepting her circumstance more fully, she found coaching—which propelled her into a forward focused state of empowerment.

Over the last four years of deep dive/fundamental coaching for women in betrayal (around porn use, spouses coming out around gender identity and sexuality, childhood neglect and abuse, substance abuse, infidelity, emotional abuse, domestic violence, institutional trauma, and more.), she has observed that if you’re working with humans, you can’t handpick clients who don’t carry trauma.

This is why I have developed a Trauma-Informed approach to mindset work and relationships that take into account the nuance of being a human. She believes that being trauma informed is an essential standard of care for coaches. She created this podcast to support life coaches who recognize that there is so much more than mindset work when it comes to supporting their clients responsibly.

Primary vs Secondary Trauma: What's more unseen?

Primary vs Secondary Trauma: What's more unseen?

Humans experience circumstances vastly differently. One person can internalize an event as traumatic while someone else who experiences the same doesn't. What is this all about? What is the difference between primary and secondary trauma? Does it matter? Which type of trauma tends to remain unseen (people don't recognize a need to get support after the traumatic event(s))?
As a coach (or any human), it's important to be aware of--especially with respect to current events.

    In this episode you’ll learn:

    • What primary and secondary trauma is.
    • Why we sometimes fail to recognize or acknowledge trauma,
    • Signs to help you recognize secondary trauma,
    • More about secondary trauma I've been healing from, and
    • Societal expectations that condition us to minimize or ignore our trauma.

Spending Money and the Sneaky Perfectionism that keeps us Stuck

Spending Money and the Sneaky Perfectionism that keeps us Stuck

I used to think I had to be thinner to go to the gym. That sneaky, perfectionistic belief can pop up in surprising ways with self-investment. I’ve had many clients come to me ashamed that they weren’t making “enough” money as a coach or didn’t have “enough” clients. In today’s episode I talk about this perfectionism and what it can look like, and ask questions to help you consider if money is one of the things holding you back from investing in yourself. We then talk about what beliefs you might need to release to open yourself up to receiving everything you’re deserving of. You don’t have to have everything figured out perfectly before investing, or going to the gym, or starting or doing the new thing you want to do.

In this episode you'll learn about:

    • How that perfectionism can show up,
    • Questions to consider if money is holding you back, and
    • Beliefs you may need to release to open yourself up to receiving.

Before and After Trauma-Informed Coaching with Hailee Mae

Before and After Trauma-Informed Coaching with Hailee Mae

Today’s episode is a really powerful conversation with my dear friend, Hailee. Some organizations, religions, or systems like to promise certainty. “Do things this way, and then you’ll get that result”. But what if it doesn’t work that way for all people? We are multidimensional beings, so it makes sense that different things will work for different people. Hailee and I discuss the before and after deconstructing that idea that there’s one tool or one way to heal and get the results you want. As humans, we crave certainty. But at what cost? Hailee bravely shares how scary it can be to lean into your intuition but when you do, it can bring so much goodness, knowledge, beauty, and healing into the world.

    The pain before the gain

    The pain before the gain

You’ve probably heard the phrase, “Things get worse before they get better”. Today’s episode is all about contraction. That tightening or slinging back we often experience before slinging forward. This is important to talk about in relation to your coaching practice and other relationships because sometimes we forget that "up-leveling" isn't always daisies and dandelions. Let's remove some "shoulds," shall we?

If you can relate, tune in to this episode where we’ll discuss:

    • Questions to consider when you’re ready to move forward but triggers are pulling you back,
    • Recognizing if your nervous system has the capacity to act on your intuition, and
    • A helpful way I’ve found to think about constricting and releasing.

There's so much you can do to support yourself (or your clients) when you're feeling constricted.

The Coach's Compass: Understanding and Applying the Window of Tolerance

The Coach's Compass: Understanding and Applying the Window of Tolerance

Have you ever been in conversations with people that you couldn’t be fully present for, and you're not sure why? Or vice versa? What about as a coach, have you had calls with your clients where it feels like you aren't getting through or connecting and you're not sure why?  If so, you’re in good company. Today I’m speaking about a concept called the Window of Tolerance. Understanding this will support you in becoming more aware of your own optimal space for learning and using mindset work to your advantage. It will also help you see when to drop mindset models that aren't helping you or your clients.

     In this episode you’ll learn:

    • What the window of tolerance is,
    • What it looks like to be above or below your window of tolerance,
    • And what you can do to get out of that hyper or hypo arousal state;

All so that you can meet your clients where they're at to achieve the results they're looking for. And don't forget about you! Understanding this for yourself is paramount in creating the sustainable dream life you're deserving of.
