The hosts, Gene and William, had an amusing conversation about their past experiences with alcohol during their podcast recording. Gene shared that he managed to be entertaining during the filming of a show without consuming alcohol for several weeks. William, on the other hand, mentioned his new job and how he has become Gene's assistant, which led to some playful banter between them. • Unexpected joy from social media connectionsSocial media interactions with celebrities can lead to unexpected joy and tangible outcomes

Social media connections can lead to unexpected and exciting experiences. In this conversation, Ben and William discussed their interactions with celebrities on social media, specifically ZZ Strelan, who plays Mary Poppins in the West End. Ben jokingly followed her back to annoy William, leading to a sweet interaction between the two. William, in turn, was thrilled when his idol, Robbie Blake, tweeted him for the first time. These interactions not only brought joy to their lives but also resulted in tangible outcomes, such as William commissioning artwork of different forms of Mary Poppins and proudly displaying it in his bedroom. The conversation also showcased the importance of self-reliance, as William had to learn how to hang the artwork himself due to COVID-19 restrictions. Overall, this discussion highlights the power of social media in creating meaningful connections and bringing happiness into people's lives.

    • A Nostalgic Look at Family Traditions and Favorite PlayersThe speaker cherishes memories of family traditions, favorite football players, and past experiences, revealing a deep emotional attachment.

The speaker has a deep connection with Burnley Football Club and a particular fondness for Jay Rodriguez, despite not currently being a fan favorite. The conversation also touches on the speaker's preferences in music and television, as well as reminiscing about past holidays. Overall, the conversation reveals the speaker's strong emotional attachment to family, football, and past experiences.

    • Noticing Unusual Bedding Habits and Scandinavian Design InspirationDuring a virtual home tour, an unusual bedding habit inspired by Scandinavian design led to a conversation about shared experiences and a sense of connection.

The guy from the Broadway production of Jersey Boys, which was turned into a film by Clint Eastwood, inspired a conversation about unusual bedding habits. During a virtual tour of a friend's home, it was noticed that the duvet on the bed was folded into a small square instead of being spread out and tucked under the pillows. This unusual practice was revealed to be inspired by Scandinavian design, as seen in a book the friend received as a gift. The conversation then led to sharing experiences with hand towels and moms' honesty. Despite the friend's eccentricities, the shared experiences brought a sense of connection and amusement.

    • Navigating Unwanted Interactions on Social MediaBe aware of potential downsides of social media and take steps to protect yourself from unwanted interactions, such as blocking users or limiting notifications.

During a conversation, the speaker shared her experiences of receiving odd and unwanted messages on social media, which she found to be more frequent recently. She also mentioned the presence of couples asking her to join in their conversations. While some of these interactions were harmless and even inclusive, others were disturbing and required blocking. The speaker also shared an experience of telling her suitcases that they wouldn't be traveling due to the pandemic, only to be met with emotional baggage in the form of her luggage. The conversation ended with a joke about dad jokes and the possibility of bringing back an old segment called "William's Wacky" on the show. Overall, the conversation highlighted the importance of being aware of the potential downsides of social media and taking steps to protect oneself from unwanted interactions.

    • Practice making eye contact for confidenceImprove eye contact skills through exercises and reading books like 'How to Win Friends and Influence People' for positive first impressions

Making good eye contact is important for making a positive first impression and coming across as confident and approachable. While it can be intimidating, especially for those who are shy, it's a skill that can be practiced and improved over time. A simple exercise to help build eye contact confidence is to stare at a partner for increasing lengths of time without blinking. This can help make eye contact feel less awkward and more natural. Additionally, the book "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie, which Jordan mentioned, provides timeless advice on improving interpersonal skills and making a good impression. The podcast hosts also mentioned their upcoming tour and encouraged listeners to get their tickets if they want to see them live.

    • Practicing new skills and celebrating differencesImprove relationships by practicing new skills, making gentle changes, and celebrating differences. Lead by example and approach conflicts with understanding and compassion.

Building confidence and improving relationships involves practicing new skills, such as making eye contact, and making subtle changes to help others grow. However, it's important to celebrate differences and not try to change people completely. The speaker shares her experience of dealing with challenging situations and people, including her own conflicts with colleagues and her current relationship with a common partner. She advises leading by example, making gentle changes, and celebrating differences to help improve relationships and build confidence. Additionally, she acknowledges that everyone has room for growth and learning, and that it's important to approach conflicts and differences with understanding and compassion.

    • Creating Space for Personal GrowthGradually assert independence by planning solo activities and, if necessary, communicate your need for individual experiences while maintaining relationship importance

If you're feeling the need for independence and personal growth, but are having difficulty asserting it without offending a loved one, consider gradually creating space for yourself. Start by planning solo activities, and if necessary, have an honest conversation expressing your desire for individual experiences while maintaining the importance of your relationship. For Sarah specifically, the advice is to start taking solo trips and, if possible, move out to establish more autonomy. This may be a challenging conversation, but it's essential for personal growth and maintaining a healthy balance in relationships.

    • Sharing tales of trepidation and celebrating life's special momentsEmbrace connection, celebrate life's milestones, and find comfort in shared experiences during uncertain times. Affordable travel essentials from Quinn's and thoughtful gifts from 1800flowers.com make these moments even more special.

G and Divas are looking forward to their upcoming weekend release, and in the meantime, they encourage listeners to share their tales of trepidation with them through various channels. They also reminded everyone of the importance of celebrating life's special occasions with love and care, as represented by 1800flowers.com. Additionally, Quinn's was highlighted as a travel essentials brand that offers high-quality items at affordable prices while ensuring safe and ethical manufacturing practices. Overall, the discussion emphasized the importance of connection, celebration, and resilience during challenging times.

Wake Up Call: It's Time for Social Media Marketing 2.0

16 days. 6 countries. 2 continents. After a business trip around the world, I pondered what role businesses should play in social media. And then it dawned on me: Social media marketing has been going on for ten years, but brands on average still suck at it. Should businesses keep trying to do the same thing? Or is it time for a next generation, new approach to social media marketing that takes into account the fact that we are now entering our second decade of implementing organic social? Listen on for the conclusion that I have and the advice for you to completely blow up and reconstruct your social media marketing efforts to be more effective in 2019 and beyond.

    Notable Quotes

    • I think that businesses really understand the influence that these people have in that part of the world.
    • We've been doing social media marketing for a decade now. And I think we need to come to the realization, and I keep saying it, but it bears reminding that social media was made for people, not for businesses, right? Businesses really shouldn't be in social media. But I don't think that people want to have conversations with brands in social media, unless they're gonna complain, perhaps if they have a question.
    • That's what social media is about, is about building relationships with people.
    • Many businesses started out word of mouth, happy customers, successful customers, they told their friends, and so on. But what's important here is that I applaud falcon.io Because one of the keywords in Spark, that digital marketing conference I spoke at was how going forward? Do we incite conversations that connect? And I think that's what it's about, right? It's about leveraging our customers who 10 years ago, we're not on social media, but they're on social media. Now, it's about spreading word of mouth through social media.
    • So if business is about word of mouth marketing, and social media should have been about word of mouth marketing, the only way to incite word of mouth marketing is not from the declining reach of your organic posts, nor is it about your advertisements. It's about leveraging people.
    • What's important is that we need to redefine and the business of influence is going to be all about redefining it. And I think that employee advocacy is a great way to begin that thought process of redefining influencer marketing whe
