Discussing the Summit over a few Canns

Intro — David is dragging a little (and a little under the weather) after three nights in a row with very little sleep.

[1] — We try all three types of Cann social tonics: Lemon Lavender, Grapefruit Rosemary and Blood Orange Cardamon.

[2] Adam Devine, of Pitch Perfect and Modern Family, is a spokesman and investor in the company.

[4:10] We start with Blood Orange Cardamon, which Jenny has the most trepidation about.

[4:40] The cans have child-safe tops that we haven’t seen yet. Pic on Twitter

[7:30] Jenny’s dirty joke nearly flies under the radar ;)

[9:45]  Our favourite funny French words. (Email us yours: hello@okanaganz.com)

[13:50] We discuss the BC Cannabis Summit, with Jenny asking the questions:

[14] What were you most looking forward to before the summit even began?

[16:50] What panels did you moderate?

[27:15] What other panel did you find interesting?

[34] Was there a topic that came up that surprised?

[39:35] What was your overall takeaway?

    Intro

[1:30] — We gave a try to two types of kombucha by impromptu: 1:1 Blue Majik Lemonade and CBD Goji Grapefruit.

Early on in legalization we made our own syrup and infused our homemade booch. Read Jenny's step-by-step guide at theounce.ca. Find it here.

[2:30] — Jenny talks about her booch background.

[6:20] — We get into the review and crack open our bottles.

[12:20] — Volume 2, Issue 1 of the oz. magazine has Pineapple Buds on the cover. We chat about meeting the owners, Kyra and Laine, who took us on a tour of the facility.

[17:15] — It's opening how much influence reviews can have.

[18] — Reddit gives great reviews, too. Check out r/thebccs.

Two MXG drinks that taste different but suffer the same flaws. [@1:10]

Mango Pineapple is bright yellow, and Tropical Fruit is pinkish-red. Both smell fruity and sugary, and taste it too. Far and away the best part of these drinks is the effect—a happy buzzy head high. But first you have to choke down the taste.

David dropped off the oz. magazine at stores throughout the Okanagan Valley. [@10:25]

Pick up your edition at: Spiritleaf in Vernon, Kelowna, West Kelowna, and Penticton; Green Gaia in Summerland and Penticton; as well as Lake Country Cannabis.

I’m excited to talk today with a friend of mine, Gary Johnston. [@18:15]

Gary is the voice behind The Cannabis Potcast, which drops every other Sunday at 4:20. He’s recorded and produced more than 60 episodes, featuring interviews, reviews and his entertaining personality.  He knows more about cannabis than most people I know. We mused about what to call 3.5 grams. [@31:30] Find Gary at CannabisPotcast.com

    Flinging fear and stigma

    Flinging fear and stigma

Simply Bare is on the pricey side, but we decided to treat ourselves to see for ourselves if it's as good as people say.

Keep an eye out for our video review to drop on the By The Ounce Youtube channel.

    --

There are all kind of ridiculous assertions coming out of Vernon about cannabis stores.

Two more cannabis stores are applying to open in the North Okanagan city, and that has brought the misinformation out of the woodwork.

Critics are flinging their favourite types of ammo — fear and stigma.

One of the most baseless assertions came from a city councillor.

How to uproot the illicit market

How to uproot the illicit market

    REVIEW

Summit 10 Iced Tea by The Valens Company in Kelowna, BC.

Jenny is a self-described tea nerd and was happy to see black tea so prominently used.

Right away, I was enamoured with the packaging and logo. They have a logo with mountains and a little flag at the top of it. Check out our video on YouTube for a more visual review.

Valens uses Sorse Emulsion Technology, and there's no hint of cannabis taste.

The drink has only seven grams of sugar.

    It's lemony, fresh, and refreshing.

    INTERVIEW

We recently interviewed their VP Harrison Stoker and were curious about whether he thought a small town could support two pot shops.

Listen to what he has to say about whether a small town can support more than one cannabis retail store. Read the full Q&A on our website.

Taking Quatreau for a taste test

Taking Quatreau for a taste test

We tried all four flavours of Quatreau, cannabis-infused sparkling water.

Overall throughout our flight of drinks, we liked this Tweed brand's first offerings. They come in two formats – CBD (20 mg) as well as THC/CBD 1:1 (2 mg).

The two THC drinks were the best tasting to us, as the CBD ones were a little bitter.

Listen to Jenny and David banter over the details in Episode 1 of our very own 'By The Ounce' podcast.

    Episode notes:

David and Jenny from the oz. kick back with all four flavours of Tweed’s Quatreau cannabis-infused sparkling waters.

    • First, we tried cucumber + mint; the smell is bang on and the taste is alright.
    • Next we tried ginger + lime, it’s close to a Moscow Mule.
    • Third, passion fruit + guava, which was not great; our least favourite.
    • Ending with Blueberry + Acai, an excellent berry finish.

    Thanks and cue the outro.
