A conversation For, By, and about the Deaf Community.
Inter-American Interpreting Services creates a community, and
they intentionally welcome all. They Foster a climate of purposeful inclusion,
an environment where all can feel safe, valued, cared for, and given an
opportunity to form meaningful connections with each other.
Today we introduce a very intriguing new vodcast/podcast. Silent
Voice, Strong Voices is focused at providing the Deaf
community a place to empower and share their very personal stories.
In this episode, we speak with Jo Ann Vara known as “BeatJo” a
deaf UTEP student who is the very first graduate in her family.
She is also a very accomplished softball player.
We talk to her about her unique journey as a Deaf woman. Listen
as she shares her story, her aspirations for the Deaf community here in the
Borderland, and the local school that shaped her as a person.
We also discuss her passion of softball and how she made a name
for herself in the sport she loves.
Her interpreters are:
Patricia Garcia is the Voice Interpreter for Jo Ann from Inter

Carlos Pina is the Sign Interpreter for Jo Ann, from Inter
