    About this Episode

With more people working from home and more people connecting with each other through technology I thought it would be great to catch up with Cybersecurity expert - Claire Pales.

Claire runs a Cybersecurity company called 27Lanterns - she specialises in helping companies understand their security requirements and hire the right people for the organisation at the right time. Her model is to step into the Chief Security Officer role - help the organisation navigate their security concerns and then replace herself in that role. 27Lanterns came about because she realised that those that were trying to hire security teams did not necessarily have the background nor the skillset to do so.

Claire has also written a book called the Secure CIO that works through her framework that assist companies to work through their security requirements and hire the right security people and strategy to take the business forward. She also has a podcast were she interviews many CIO’s on how they have built their security teams.

Prior to running her own business Claire had grown her career at multiple large organisation and across many countries. We discuss the skills shortage in security, we discuss women in IT and security and we discussed the importance of networking and maintaining networks and how important they are if you spend some time overseas.

We talked about sharing your data, how well do you know companies and trust them with your information, and the data of your children and the importance of password security especially for children.

We also talk about where is Australia in line with the rest of world with Cybersecurity? Are we are experiencing the same threats as the rest of the world? Does Australia need to uplift their maturity.

We finish with ‘if you are a CIO’ what should you be focusing on at the moment.

I absolutely loved this chat with Claire - I am so impressed with her experience, her career and the business that she has created. Hope you get as much out of this chat as I did.

    Check out Claires business: www.27lanterns.com
Her book: The Secure CIO - Claire Pales

And we discussed Margot Andersens business - InSync Network Group.

What does your Style say about you?

What does your Style say about you?

    How is your style?

You're a successful female leader in the corporate world or with your own business who's serious and passionate about what you do.

Do you love fashion and are always dressing fabulously?
Are you thinking you could do with an update but not sure where to look?
Or are you not sure what looks good on you anymore?

Does your style make you look and feel the part?

You can be the best at what you do, but it’s easy to be overlooked and not recognised for your talents if that’s what your clothes tell other people.

If you’re a female in the workplace today, the chances are you will still face far more obstacles and be judged more harshly on your appearance than your male counterparts. It’s an unfortunate reality many of us deal with, so instead let’s take an empowerment perspective.

This week on the Lady Leadership show, I had the privilege of interviewing Lucy Owens. Lucy is the founder of Style Rises. Lucy helps female professionals and leaders 35+ create a personal style that represents them confidently and authentically.

Lucy is a big believer in If you weren’t born with an innate sense of style, that you can learn style. Her clients are General Managers, Directors, Senior Consultants, CFOs, CEOs, Executives and Partners. Many are successful entrepreneurs and run their own businesses.

They come to Lucy because they lack confidence in their professional image and often feel bored and uninspired with their style. They often also feel they've lost their way (due to age/body shape changes) and are struggling to look stylish, comfortable and age appropriate within new dress codes.

She helps you create a signature style formula that supports your professional brand and gives you the confidence you need to step up.

In this episode, we explore why traditional strategies like skill-building sprees, seeking external validation, and playing the comparison game often fall short in boosting our confidence.

Discover a fresh approach to cultivating genuine career confidence:

Step 1: Know Yourself - Start with self-awareness and embrace your unique strengths and quirks.

Step 2: Positive Self-Talk - Silence that inner critic and become your own cheerleader.

Step 3: Celebrate Wins - No victory is too small; give yourself credit for every accomplishment.

Step 4: Lifelong Learning - Stay curious and never stop learning; bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to be.

Step 5: Lean on Allies - Seek mentors and support systems; learn from those who've walked the path before you.

Exploring the Benefits of Working Abroad with Ursula Lepporoli

Have you ever considered the idea of working abroad? This week on the Lady Leadership show, I had the privilege of interviewing Ursula Lepporoli, a Partner at KPMG specializing in facilitating talent mobility through Tax.

Ursula and I crossed paths on LinkedIn, where she has earned recognition as a top voice for her extensive platform engagement. Benefits of Working Abroad:
In our conversation, we dug deep into how working abroad can have a profound impact on your career. Ursula shared several key advantages, including:

    1. Skillset Expansion: Working abroad opens doors to new skillsets that might not be readily available in your home country, significantly enhancing your professional development.
    2. Networking Opportunities: International experiences provide access to a diverse network of individuals, including senior executives, which can be a game-changer for your career trajectory.
    3. Personal Transformation: The opportunity to work abroad allows you to redefine your identity and professional presence, fostering remarkable personal growth.

    Diversity and Leadership:
Ursula and I delved into KPMG's commitment to diversity and its partnership goals (40-40-20), stressing that leadership should mirror the diversity of the customers and communities served. Ursula speaks from her own experiences of often being the only woman or Black woman in the room. She encourages individuals not to be silenced by such circumstances but to embrace their uniqueness as a superpower. Ursula advocates for asking uncomfortable questions and finding your voice, highlighting that it's a rewarding journey.

    Promoting Diversity Through Advocacy:
During our discussion, Ursula shared a highly effective technique for promoting diversity: a simple statement like, "I am the only woman here today, and wouldn't it be great if we could have more women here?" This approach subtly highlights the need for diversity without confrontation.

    Building a Strong Network:
We emphasised the importance of building a meaningful network. Ursula challenged us to ponder what we want to achieve through our connections, aiming for collaboration and the sharing of stories. Moreover, Ursula prefers to take her relationships from the digital realm to the real world, fostering genuine connections.

    Well-Being and Personal Growth:
Our conversation took an interesting turn as we discussed menopause and well-being. She shared how she is challenging herself to prioritise fitness and overall health, emphasizing the importance of balance and self-care in our professional journeys.

Build your Beauty business from the ground up with Briony Kennedy

Build your Beauty business from the ground up with Briony Kennedy

If you want a step by step guide on how to start your own business and how to move and grow the business then this is definitely the podcast for you!  Especially if you want to get the real insights and what it really takes. Briony is so down to earth and engaging plus she shares how being vulnerable and real in business has really helped her.

This interview with Briony was so much fun - we covered it all in this interview.  From doing in house makeup parties, to developing her own product, to waxing and dog sitting to bring in cash. Briony has done it all to develop and grow Adorn cosmetics without taking external funding.

Briony Kennedy is the founder, CEO and ‘face of’ Australian made, circular refillable luxury cosmetics brand, Adorn.

As a beauty industry veteran, Briony knew the importance of using premium quality products with skin safe, healthier ingredients, but was frustrated by the wasteful beauty industry and its impact on the environment.

Adorn was established in 2008 to make a better connection between natural beauty products, and the beauty of nature. Put simply, Briony wanted to create a makeup and skincare brand that is both good for you and kinder to the planet.

Adorn is the most highly accredited, zero waste cosmetics brand globally. Briony was an early pioneer of makeup refills, and in her mission to minimise the use of precious planet resources, Adorn products are sold without outer boxes or plastic – a bold move, but a much-needed change for an habitual wasteful industry.

Briony aims to live with purpose in all areas of her life, not only as an entrepreneur and waste reduction activist, but as a mother of three boys and an advocate for spreading kindness and raising mental health awareness.

Briony also shares her favourite products on the show.
