    About this Episode

Contentment - Freedom from worry or restlessness: - A peaceful perspective.

Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. Philippians 4:11-13 NLT - Chillin like a villain. Roman prison - Carcer (Latin)

Contentment is not a decision to be self-sufficient, but rather a condition found when the soul rests in the sufficiency of God.  (No matter the conditions or circumstance)

Five Intentional Choices that lead to a Life of Contentment

Choice # 1 - Avoid Envy and Comparison - If I just had… I would be happy. No you wouldn’t!

Covetousness - A desire for what others have. - You must not covet your neighbors… Exodus 20:17

For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Ephesians 5:5 ESV

High place (covet) / Alter (sacrifice , contentment) / to the Idol of stuff, status, etc… little g god!?

Destiny is sacrificed and contentment dies on the altar of envy and disobedient ambition.

A tranquil heart gives life to the flesh, but envy makes the bones rot. Proverbs 14:30 ESV

Comparison creates an unreasonable discontentedness that has a way of coaxing us out of the will of God.

Choice # 2 - Embrace your assignment. (Love it and / to live it)

Submission to the purpose and plan of God is critical to a life of contentment.

Let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Hebrews 12:1-2 NLT

I’m not saying you’ll never get tired running your race, but you’ll die trying to run someone else’s.

In it for the coffee not the cup…

Choice # 3 - Praise - (Be grateful to God for the life you have)

Gratitude disarms discontentment. - - My mom!

Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. 1 Thes 5:18 NLT

Praise is a pathway to contentment. - - Praise on the inside will manifest on the outside.

Choice # 4 - Do your best with what ever you have.

Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Colossians 3:23 NLT

    Choosing Contentment Choice # 5 - Trust - - It’s an inside job!

Contentment is only found in a trusting surrendered relationship with Jesus

A greedy man stirs up strife, but the one who trusts in the LORD will be enriched. Proverbs 28:25 ESV

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 NLT - POEM

Contentment is not only God’s will, it’s God’s gift to all who will receive it!

True godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. 1 Timothy 6:6 NLT - Granny Mary’s house

    Dangerous Distraction

Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you. Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure. Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil. Proverbs 4:25-27 ESV

Distraction is a simple strategy the enemy uses to keep us from what God wills for us.

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8 ESV

If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. Colossians 3:1-2 ESV

Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be. Matthew 6:19-21 NLT

No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money. That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Matthew 6:24-32 NLT

Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ. Colossians 3:23-34 NLT

Let money rule you and it will rob you of the contentment you thought it would buy you.

Demas, in love with this present world, has deserted me. 2 Timothy 4:10 ESV

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. Matthew 6:33 NLT

    Go

    Go

We should be compassionately motivated to introduce people to Jesus and the life we’ve found in Him.

When one of those who reclined at table with him heard these things, he said to him, “Blessed is everyone who will eat bread in the kingdom of God!” But he said to him, “A man once gave a great banquet and invited many. And at the time for the banquet he sent his servant to say to those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’ But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said to him, ‘I have bought a field, and I must go out and see it. Please have me excused.’ And another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to examine them. Please have me excused.’ And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.’ So the servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house became angry and said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly to the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor and crippled and blind and lame.’ And the servant said, ‘Sir, what you commanded has been done, and still there is room.’ And the master said to the servant, ‘Go out to the highways and hedges and compel people to come in, that my house may be filled. Luke 14:15-23 ESV

If I say, “I will not mention him, or speak any more in his name,” there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with holding it in, indeed I cannot. Jeremiah 20:9 ESV
