    About this Episode

The world watched thousands of Trump supporters storm the U.S. capitol building on January 6, 2021, and the very next day, you were expected to help your students process all that they were seeing and hearing about on the news. You are a beginning teacher, and there is no right way to handle any of this. This week's show is my gentle offer of support during what I know is yet another very challenging time in the time of Covid.

How to Stop Yelling (and Use Your Voice More Effectively)

How to Stop Yelling (and Use Your Voice More Effectively)

Part of our job as teachers is to get students’ attention as we transition from one activity to the next, line up from recess, or give further instructions when students are working in groups. And for most of us, our natural instinct to get the attention of our class is by yelling or speaking in a louder tone. I’ll admit, I was guilty of this at the beginning of my career, but I soon realized that the sound of my voice didn’t have to be loud in order to be powerful.

In today’s episode, I’m sharing seven strategies you can start using in your classroom that don’t involve you yelling. Instead, you’ll be able to start using your voice as a powerful tool to manage your classroom more effectively.
