Humanize Us: The American Dream

Folks, friends, fam, revolutionaries, and the unitiated,
We have been taking the time to make sure conversations that needed to be had were had over the past two years. Now, it is time to take a break to pursue our passions. We are working on opening a community and cultural center in Oceanside, California while teaching free art and music classes for underprivileged youth. We hope you take this time to enjoy old episodes and tell your friends and family about the podcast. What do you know, maybe we will be back with a fresh, new host when we return?

For those of us lucky enough to be born into generational wealth, we may never understand the struggle to carve out a small piece for ourselves and our future ancestors. When our resources only allow us to focus on getting by in the now, we have to push ourselves to become more. From spiritual growth, to overcoming fears, parenting, self-parenting, to entrepreneurship; Kiana Sanchez discusses her experiences and wisdom from what we would call an “old soul.’ She used what little she had, coffee beans, to build a fledgling mobile business - Cultura Coffee. Kiana’s determination and imagination took something as simple as a seed of a stone fruit and saw it as a bridge to culture, or Cultura. Cultura Coffee makes traditional Mexican drinks as a bridge to cultura for local Mexicanos who live in a country partitioned from their own, on land that was once theirs, and so close, but so detached from their culture. Sit down, grab a taza, and disfruta a taste of cultura.

At the surface, they may not be as intriguing as a hot topic issue, but when we take time to invest in learning about other people, we hope that we all learn fom each others' wisdom and mistakes. It is difficult for folks to sit down and meet or continue to hold relationships with the strangers in our lives. We trespass among so many different individuals in the regular patterns and routines of our lives, it is a shame we have lost the time to hold conversation, much less bonds of humanity. No shame to our grind, but the necessity of capital means the measures of personal investment wither.

We needed to sit down, slow down, and hold space with @stevencorral760. We have held shared ground amongst the truth holders on Artist Alley. Broken bread, whiskey, and wine backyard boogies (thanks again @enmipalma). Then continued to become so inundated with the purposeful mission of community action; we lost the community. It starts with a conversation and this one was well worth making the time.

Learning how to find yourself, and making steps to reinvent or re-invest in yourself. Finding the journey of life through the wisdom of elders, and the purpose of passion. Shaking the less than pretty parts of yourself, and getting to the simplicity of a wok, four wheels, a bit of luck, and a wildly diverse collection of memories will always ensue.

It is hard enough finding yourself in this world and understanding where you fit in it, while pretending to make enough to eat. Whether we are intimate friends in real life, or we happen to follow each other on social media platforms, the difference in the integrity of our humanity is only a conversation away.

Stripping away the badges and looking at the simplest aspect of life: a home, a city that represents and looks like you; welcomes you are things most take for granted. To some like (@MarisaDelucastudio) it is the heartbeat to life. Finding ways to capture a dying city, only to feel the hear the call of an entire community outside of oneself. Struck so personally and viscerally by the images shared across the television screens, it was impossible to keep a talented artistic humanitarian down.

Unafraid to stand toe-to-toe with the government bullies, but wise enough to use her intellect and fine art motor skills. Marisa has created an organization @artistsinsolidarityofficial that helps bridge pathways to humanity. Specifically to some of the Native Mexican sols whose ancestors were the original caretakers of this land. A bit of color here, community of artists there; and oh the Humanity one can paint.

From the fringes of social media, chance meetings at pop-up events, and direct voluntolding from trusted friends; listen as we find more ways to Humanize a wildly diverse community of individuals. Through conversation, art, and a bit of online magical auction, enjoy another degree of Humanity.

Everyone loves the movies, but how many of us take the time to know it as an art form? We had the privilege of speaking with Phoenix Rose @ivoxus of Little Green Bug Animation Studios. From working in prop fabrication to creating their own stop motion shorts, they have the perspective from the other side of the screen. A self-proclaimed "film nerd," their passion for art and movies shines through their being. Catch a glimpse of what heart and soul the people in the industry put into their craft that allows for your Netflix and Chill and 12 season binges.

It is that independence day so many Americans mark their calendars for. Fireworks, BBQs, parties, friends, families, and soul. Whether it is finding pieces of culture that reconnect and reappropriate your history, or if it is simply finding a sol you jive with and making a connection; the real point of these weeks of freedom, these celebratory days of independence is the people, and their walk in life.

We had the privilege to run into Esteban of @PuestoXicano at the @soulswap meet. We exchanged glances, awkward fumbling of appreciation, and a whole bunch of love and soul. So much so that we had to sit down and hold a much deeper conversation in order to learn where the antiquities, jewelry and flavor come from. A moment of conversation blessed to bloom into a connection that will last beyond time, as long as we nurture it; the same way we nurture our own humanity.

Please take a moment to listen to two sols walking the journey of life, and what it means to find the simple beauty of conversation between two wandering sols. Whether it is diving into a world of self discovery, or exploring the bounds of self-confidence and the voice we hold within. All of it can be done with the benefit of a sol that sees you and love you for the beautiful individual you exist as. Enjoy and take the time to share some humanity.

Culture is handed down to us in a number of fashions through language, family morals & norms, education, and food are the biggest ones we get right in the comfort of our own homes. From the loving and caring family that raises us, to be happy, great and successful in life. Most of us find in this journey there is an abrupt turn from the path that was set out for us. The turbulence it can cause, drifting away from the normative patterns that were laid as foundations for us, and the distance it creates. The perfect symbiosis of family, culture, dreams, and your soul is a journey on its own.
Stuck in a lot pining for more than the regular despotic gnum gnum, reigned in by a sol so ferociously at work; you would fear eating the decadently simple meals prepped by this father, husband, son, and bedazzler of taste buds. Justin shares his passion for festive and creative palatable food with the world one grueling slaptastic order at times. Unmoved by the monotonous and daily doldrum of the "real world of jobs" they gave it up to find their spark bringing a flare and a sizzle to everyone around them.
Take notes - heart - and courage from the story of another simple sol who's footsteps through on around and over life's sidewalks have just begun. Take your ticket, and order up a bit of @urbnmarketfusion.

It is a difficult thing to be a lost sol wandering the mortal plane in need of a spiritual filling. Finding balance between humility of religious zealotry and the basic tenets of human civility is a lifelong quest, we beseech many different guides to spiritual harmony. Intermingling cognizant self motivation, divine spiritual following, and the intrinsic dynamic vibration, for self fulfillment is often considered a mystical experience. We learned to find it in a place one would least expect.

While going through one of the more difficult times in our life and having little avenues of self-discovery, we were introduced to Yusef. Sufi Muslim, Father, Husband, Professor teaching  young minds. But to us; the first real connection to a spiritual faith. In times of need or just sharing love, we routinely find our strength of heart and mind from heartfelt conversations here. Whether it is to become a better father, work on showing the devotion of a supportive husband, & or learning how to shepherd and enrich communities; We have found a guide, mentor, brother in spirit; and more. If you feel the love take from it. If you hear the heart, hold on to it. If you need someone; these words are for you- too!

The words of a father and the father shared one a day of Fatherly Recognition- bless.

Thank you Yusef for being the strength behind the growing spirit we have found; All praise be to god. Asset for continuing to ensure the mics, minds, and movements of our evolution into a wildly diverse community are shared from soapbox over mountaintop.

It takes a Mother to bless us poor males with children, to be a father; thank you for the most blessed gift we could ever receive from you- aside your heart.

Humanities tells us we don’t get second chances. That the disposition, station, places we can venture in only afford us; one opportunity in life. So often we feel anxious we may miss an opportunity, or that something may have slid through our fingers. We struggle to find how we lose the connections we value. After some time we got to sit back down Sonny long long after we were supposed to sit down and hold a conversation.

Getting beyond the labels that keep us separate we found means to discuss generational trauma, roots so deep your ancestors named the land, finding ways to keep community first and as a root to who we are, and so many more topics in life. We ask you to join us, in getting a second chance to make that human connection with a sol so bright in magnificence; we get reminded of it everyday when waking to its rays. 

What does it mean to be a part of the community in so many ways and feel like you are never seen. What does it mean to be community or genuine, or? Not everything in California glitters like gold, but the people do.

Folks Family Friends, Revolutionaries & you initiates;

During the summer, when students and teachers have freedom from instruction, they enjoy the festive freedoms we all routinely celebrate. Juneteenth exemplifies the dream that is American in the ability for all of us to have and can exuberantly fulfill; the life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The shared emancipation from chattel slavery for the country and the people subjegated by it.

This breath of fresh air excites the fingers of freedom before we celebrate a united independence. Large parties, sporting events, fireworks, races, eating competitions, and... and... and... We throw such huge extravagant events, we people that live under the bells of liberty. We cannot be a united free nation without celebrating the wildly diverse sols that make up our jambalaya soup; with cornbread on the side. For Independence Walk we are going to spend time having real Human conversations, to exploit and engage in our love of community.

How do we break beyond the markers, labels, and boxes meant to restrict our humanity; from shining? What is Humanity? What is culture? What does it mean to belong? What are the deeper parts of our person and how did we get here? Are we really as interconnected as the fabled 6 degrees of separation, or is there more?
