Despite facing challenges in his upbringing in Chicago, including the loss of loved ones to gun violence, the individual discussed in the conversation has a deep-rooted desire to give back to his community in a meaningful way. He has already started implementing this dream by buying his mother a church to continue her work as a pastor and saving lives. This is just one aspect of his plan to make a significant impact on communities, both in Chicago and Miami. Throughout his journey, he has been inspired by his parents' selfless acts of giving back to their community, and he aims to carry on this legacy by living up to his promise to make a difference in people's lives if he is given the opportunity.

    • Instilled sense of responsibility to give backDuane recognizes the importance of using his platform to make a positive impact and give back, inspired by his family's generosity and his coach's advice.

Duane's experiences of giving and receiving have shaped him into a person who feels a strong responsibility to give back and engage in causes he believes in. This sense of responsibility was instilled in him from a young age, when he and his family had little but still chose to share what they had with others. Later, his college coach's advice that "to much is given, much is required" resonated with him as he recognized the many blessings he had received and the corresponding obligation to use his platform to make a positive impact. As an athlete, Duane sees it as important to go beyond the game and lend his voice, face, and support to various causes, such as standing with the Parkland students after the school shooting. His personal experiences of fear and concern for his own children's safety following the shooting further emphasized the importance of using his platform to make a difference.
