Identity Series - 008 - A True Friend

Why does it feel like there is so much power in a gift? 

A meaningful gift can move someone from neutral to abundance in an instant. 

Can a gift move you if you never received it? 

It doesn’t change the fact that the gift was given. Every new day that gift is readily available to reach out and receive. Not only were we a gift from God the Father to Christ Jesus. But Jesus Christ was a gift to me. Our value to the Father is beyond our understanding because He badly wants our love. 

How hard have you searched for the people that you love? 

Do they experience the joy of your bottomless love for their attention, for their heart, or just to be in their life?

Is it possible to experience the joy of a gift without ever receiving it? 

How can I feel the excitement of a gift if I never open it? 

Eventually, I have to choose to receive it. The willingness required to choose this is up to me. It's a gift I open in faith, not knowing what I’m taking on. Sometimes choosing to let go and truly receive the joy of a gift given in love can be challenging. Many of us have been through a lot. 

Why would anyone love me after what I've done in my life? 

For so long, I walked around knowing there was a plan for me and a higher purpose for my life. I always needed clarification on what this meant. It had never been explicitly clear to me. Once I gave my life to Christ everything changed instantly. I felt this change but didn't fully understand it.

In the same way you can feel heat radiate off a light bulb. My old self was gone, the new creation was born. I was literally developing all over again. I matured into my old self, but my new creation was only just born. Colossians 1:28 growth had started. From being an infant to growing in my faith, learning how to feed myself and walk on my own. Learning who Christ had called me to be. Understanding His will in my life and knowing the truth about who He says I am!

God the Father loves me the same way He loves Jesus.

“I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.” John 17:23

I’m in God the Father and Jesus the Son.

Who do you think you are? Are you really who you think you are? How do you know this is your true identity? 

In this episode, we're looking at John 15. Extracting the truth Jesus is speaking about is related to who you are, what he has planned for your life, and why experiencing the truth of your identity will allow you to bear fruit. 

We know that the branches that grow fruit will be pruned by the vinedresser, aka God. The branches that don't grow fruit will be cut off and burned in the fire. What good is a branch that doesn't produce fruit?

 I used to struggle with insecurity so much. I was always so wrapped up in the things that die. I latched onto this hope as if it would save me somehow. I found comfort in thinking I could cover up my insecurity by overcompensating with things that didn't make me look so weak. Living this way was a lie, and it took many trials to figure it out. As I write this, I know I have much to learn. I certainly don't think I've arrived, but experiencing this reality and understanding my true identity has woken me up. It's made my faith walk so much different. Finally, being secure in something gives me peace. I hope everyone can experience a kind of peace, even amid trials like the ones I've had to go through for the last two years. All of us have experienced a change in our world since the pandemic. The cloud is over us. Understanding our eternal security NOW is everything.
