    About this Episode

In this episode Alex is joined by Ertugrul Gerdan of Student Hub.  Ertugrul has been an educational consultant for ten years in his native Turkey after completing his graduate studies at Harvard and Drexel, where he developed the 4C4life model, focusing on the college process of one leg of four definable eras in a student’s life.   Alex and Ertugrul discuss the challenges of college admission from an international lens, and discuss its role as merely one leg along a greater path to career success

    Key Takeaways

-The College Admissions process should take a broader lens to a student’s life.  A backwards design is key, considering where the student wants to be ten years after their college career in making the decisions in college placement.

-The first semester is critical for kids going to college for the first time.  Confidence can take a huge irrecoverable hit if things go poorly in their first fall on campus.  Getting the right resources in place and doing everything possible to make that transition a smooth one is key in helping them succeed.

-Picking a major and a college must involve some speculation of the future.  What careers will be relevant ten years in the future? What will not be relevant?  The answers to these questions must guide these decisions.
