    About this Episode

With an increasing number of geriatric patients seeking IR services, identification of patients at higher risk for complications will allow for improved pre-procedural counseling and patient selection, as well as targeted application of resources to improve the perioperative risk profile for select patients.

In the audio version of "Patient frailty and IR: The case for frailty as a geriatric diagnostic tool" (Fall 2021 IR Quarterly, pp. 20-22), authors Rana Rabei, MD, MHA, and Maureen P. Kohi, MD, FSIR, describe the pathophysiology of patient frailty, how frailty can be measured, and the potential role of frailty in guiding treatment decisions within interventional radiology.

Episode 49: Owning success: What journal editors wish authors and reviewers knew

There is a shift in academic medicineacademic radiology. We don't necessarily have the soft research time that we had before. The clinical demands are so great that I am concerned about who is going to be generating the science in the future.—Ruth Carlos, MD, FACR, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the American College of Radiology

As part of the "Owning Success" series, host interventional radiologist Barbara Nickel Hamilton, MD, FSIR, speaks with Ziv J Haskal, MD, FSIR, editor emeritus of SIR’s Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology (JVIR), and Ruth Carlos, MD, FACR, editor-in-chief of the Journal of the American College of Radiology (JACR), about the unique opportunities the editor role provides, what they wish authors and reviewers knew, and more.

Episode 48: Unlocking radiology's potential: The synergy between interventional and diagnostic radiology

Many people are sort of viewing it as an either/oreither you have an OBL or you're tied to a diagnostic department. And from my perspective, it's like  ... it's actually synergistic to have both. —Radiology Chief James Brink, MD, FACR

Host interventional radiologist Warren Krackov, MD, FSIR, speaks with James Brink, MD, FACR, chair of radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Brigham and Women's Hospital, about whether interventional radiology and diagnostic radiology are stronger together, what brought him to support IR services in his radiology practice, the Society of Interventional Radiology and American College of Radiology town hall on the topic, and more.
