    About this Episode

In this episode of Show Up Better! I talk about how much time has been wasted over the last 2 years with leads that come through Instagram. These leads have come in the form of DM's from posts or paid ads, but none of them have panned out.

Instagram is the Worst ----> YouTube video

By "qualified", I mean people willing to pay full price.

So, it could be the content. It could be the frequency in which I post the content. It could be that my followers don't really represent my ideal client.

Are you having a similar problem with Instagram?

I recently made some changes to how I deal with, not just leads from Instagram, but all leads I get for my video production business.

How I send proposals to clients ---> YouTube video

If you're dealing with a similar issue, what are some things you can do differently going forward?

    Cashing in on Creative Photography

You'll always hear that if you want to make money as a photographer or videographer you should stop shooting buildings, animals and nature, and shoot people. This is why most photographers and videographers look to go the corporate route.

My guest, Brandon Everett, doesn't see it that way.

    Check out a video segment!

He chose to leave the corporate realm and focus on creative photography.

My biggest question for him was, "isn't corporate where the money is?"

This interview was filmed at a networking event with my video podcast booth.

Retainer Danger! What's Better Than Having a Big Retainer Client?

Retainer Danger! What's Better Than Having a Big Retainer Client?

Believe it or not, there is a con to having retainer clients for your videography business. It happened to me, but I don't want it to happen to you. In this video I encourage you to adopt a system that is more reliable than relying on videography retainers to grow you business.

    WATCH THE VIDEO

A retainer client that brings in a large percentage of your revenue, can make you feel a false sense of security. Having that money coming in might make you forget about investing in stuff that is important for growing your videography business.
In this video I present something that may be more important than retainer clients.

In this episode I talk about:
Did I get lucky with my first retainer?
What did I spend the money on?
What should I have spent the money on?

Crafting Creative Futures and the Business of an Art Gallery Pt. 1

Crafting Creative Futures and the Business of an Art Gallery Pt. 1

In this episode of Show Up Better I speak with Reasons Brown to discuss his role in crafting creative futures and the business of owning an art gallery.

His art gallery is unlike what you think of most art galleries. Yes, there's art in the form of painting and drawings. But he also hosts showcases for another form of art; music.

watch a segment on YouTube: https://youtu.be/A1NEvU7Q4uM

He, himself, is a former collegiate basketball player and artist. He uses his gallery to showcase his own musical talents as well as others.

In this, part one of the interview, I ask him about the business of owning an art gallery. I want to get an idea of what it takes to get into the space he's in. The gallery is in a mall in a space that was once occupied by a Hollister's clothing store.

I also ask him what his mission is with the space.

New City, New Beginning: Starting a Photography Business

New City, New Beginning: Starting a Photography Business

On this episode of Show Up Better I interview Chrissy Radiance. She is an art teacher and photographer who is new to the Charlotte area. One of the things I'm interested in learning from her is how she is able to start and grow her photography business from scratch, in a whole new city.
These tips are simply and anyone with a camera and a little drive can do them.

    Watch a segment

One of the things that has worked for growing her photography business is just being seen with her camera. Just going out in public with her camera hanging around her neck has earned her a few paid opportunities.

Chrissy also speaks about how she's gained some clientele from cold calling prospects she sees on Instagram.

Chrissy also hosts mixers where she allows other photographers and creatives to connect with business owners.

Leveraging Other Peoples' Podcasts to Grow Your Business

Leveraging Other Peoples' Podcasts to Grow Your Business

Just what is O.P.P? It means "other peoples' podcasts". I want to give you 4 things you can do to make sure when you reach out to other podcast hosts to be a guest, they say YES.

In this solo episode of Show Up Better I explain the benefits of being on other peoples' podcasts.

Some sites say there are 3 million podcasts available now. Some say there are 4 million. Either way, there are a lot of them. But while there are a lot of podcasts out there, it is still a growing industry and still a great way to increase your exposure and grow your credibility and authority.

Also in this episode, I explain why I think Instagram is not the best platform for building credibility and authority.

Unemployed & Unapologetic: The New Content Creators Part 1

Unemployed & Unapologetic: The New Content Creators Part 1

Ms. Kristina Blake is making a name for herself. But it may not all be for good reasons.

    Who is she?

    Watch Part 1 Video

She's a "content creator", or aspiring content creator, who at the time of this interview had been unemployed for nearly a year. To add to that, she resides in one of Uptown Charlotte's premier residential towers.

But while most people in her situation would just go and seek full time employement, Ms. Blake has a different plan.

After her first successful campaign raised $6,000, she decided to go back to the well, or her followers, to ask for a substantial donation. She wants $30,000.

In this interview, I ask her just who the f#@k she thinks she is. I also ask what type of jobs is she willing to do.

One of her reasons for requesting donations is to buy equipment needed to create the content she wants to create. Equipment such as a camera and a laptop. My response, just use your phone. In my opinion, the good content creators work with what they have. Not having equipment shouldn't be the reason you're unable to create good content.
