    About this Episode

The first in our International Women's Impact Project series- exploring how women are positively impacting the world and the courage it takes to do so. Be inspired to appreciate the impact you are making in your own way.

This week’s guest is Lori Mihalich-Levin, healthcare lawyer & CEO of Mindful Return, which focuses on transition back to work after parental leave, work-life integration & mindfulness for busy professionals. She’s the author of Back to Work After Baby & host of Parents at Work podcast.

Growing up in a family where domestic violence, alcohol & depression were the norm Lori found survival methods that took her well into a career as a healthcare lawyer. But on facing the truth about being raised around domestic violence, her focus shifted, as she began to think about starting a family of her own.

She became interested supporting women going back to work after having babies, and started looking at what helps people create an enriching work/life integration; developing tools to help them bring down their anxiety levels.

When she rolled out her business and support programme Mindful Return, she gave people something tangible to hold onto so that it would be possible to intentionally craft a calm home, even in the crazy swirls of life.

Her approach with the four life anchors of mindfulness, logistics, leadership and community is relevant to all of us, not just working parents.

Thank you so much Lori for successfully helping more than a thousand working parents navigate the back-to-work transition from parental leave so that especially working mums can advance their leadership role while raising a child. Thanks also for showing us that it is possible to be a mum and become a power leader in the workplace, whilst maintaining a mindful approach to work/life integration

Indulge in consciously better chocolate, with Prodigy Snacks co-founder Neena Vaswani

Indulge in consciously better chocolate, with Prodigy Snacks co-founder Neena Vaswani

How can we start to tread more lightly as responsible guardians of our planet, of our bodies, of our businesses?

If you are interested in how a chocolate business began making chocolate that’s better for us and better for the planet, listen to this week’s guest Neena Vaswani, co-founder of Prodigy snacks – the B-corp chocolate company that is both climate & more gut friendly.

Prodigy makes chocolates which are a well loved part of our lives.  It's an impact driven chocolate brand that exists to help people make healthier food choices every day.

Inspired by the classics, Neena and her husband Sameer (the Willy Wonka half of the duo) wanted to reinvent our favourite chocolate bars and biscuits, only better.  Better because they use 100%  natural, plant based ingredients, high quality single origin cacao and a uniquely low percentage of natural sugar.  They  are also the UK’s first plastic negative chocolate bar, carbon neutral and proud to be B Corp.  Every bar sold funds the clean-up of the equivalent of 10 ocean bound plastic wrappers.

But it's all well and good be a consciously impactful chocolate brand, but it's still got to taste delicious. Find out more about Neena does this on her mission to taking on the big boys in confectionary.

Listen to this episode as Neena points the way to treading more lightly on this planet, with others and with ourselves, and for giving us classic-style chocolate treats that we can enjoy in good conscience.

You can find our more about Neena’s work on https://www.prodigysnacks.com/

How we ensure all voices get heard, with Black British Book Festival founder Selina Brown

How we ensure all voices get heard, with Black British Book Festival founder Selina Brown

Why does it matter that all voices get a chance to be heard and how can we all play a part in helping that to happen?

In the landscape of literature, diversity isn’t just a buzzword—it's essential for a richer, more vibrant cultural narrative.

As Selina Brown, founder & CEO of the Black British Book Festival, attests, representation in literature profoundly benefits readers and society at large.

She believes in the power of showcasing the written word by Black voices and provides a platform for emerging talent historically underrepresented in the literary world.

Growing from strength to strength the British Black Book Festival is the biggest in Europe and is setting the stage for a better world.

History doesn’t have to determine the present, and the future for all voices is in our hands.

Empowering ourselves to ensure all children are safe, with charity founder Pooja Taparia.

Why is child sexual abuse such a huge global problem and what can we all do to help protect and heal children at risk?

My guest this week is Pooja Taparia, founder of one of the world's largest NGO's addressing child sexual abuse.

In the U.S, the estimated lifetime economic burden of Child Sex Abuse is $9.3B, and in the U.K, annual costs are estimated at £3.2B. With 50% of 1.3B people in India experiencing some degree of CSA, this is a global issue & so how can we help protect every child’s right to be safe from sexual abuse?

Pooja Taparia shares alarming global statistics on child sexual abuse and detailed ARPAN's multifaceted approach to tackle this issue. ARPAN's strategy includes prevention through education in schools, counselling for survivors to mitigate long-term trauma, and broad-scale empowerment programs. The NGO's reach, impacting millions, highlights the effectiveness of their methods which can be adapted in various communities to protect children.

Pooja explain how we can all help protect the children of our world so that they may grow up free of trauma - as healed and healthy stewards of our planet.

How can we live & do business in a more conscious way, with author & leader Lorraine Flower

How can we live in a more conscious way so that we feel better in ourselves, have better relationships with others & the world around us?

This week's guest Lorraine Flower, co-founder of B-corp business Azzur and co-author of Conscious Leadership, shares her transformative journey, blending spirituality with business acumen. Lorraine's path, from a successful corporate career to a spiritual awakening, exemplifies the power of conscious leadership. Her story resonates deeply with women striving for a healthier life, business, relationships, and a sustainable planet.

Conscious leadership begins with understanding what consciousness is. It's more than mere awareness; it's a deeper understanding of ourselves, our interconnections, and our impact on the world.

Lorraine shows us that when we lead from the heart, focus more on being than doing, and live and work more consciously, we are able to contribute to the world in a more healthy and holistic way, for the benefit of ourselves, our communities and the planet at large.

Harnessing our human capacity to rise again, with war correspondent & author Ros Russell

Harnessing our human capacity to rise again, with war correspondent & author Ros Russell

How can we learn from human stories of survival to understand our own capacity to rise again?

Rosalind Russell is a journalist & editor whose reporting included the fall of the Taliban in Afghanistan, the war in Iraq & Myanmar’s Saffron Revolution. She’s the author of Burma’s Spring & The End of Where We Begin which won the 2021 Moore Prize for excellence in human rights writing.

The End of Where We Begin is about three, young South Sudanese refugees, Veronica, Daniel and Lilian. They are from a young country ripped apart by war. Each has had a different experience and come from different sides of the ethnically-fuelled conflict. But their lives collide in a refugee camp in Uganda, and with the help of the community they build there, and rudimentary counselling, they start to carve out new futures for themselves.

Ros gives us a better understanding of people who are part of the global refugee and migration crisis- their needs, desires and motivations as human beings, but also gives us an insight into the strength and resilience within ourselves, the power of the human spirit.

She shows us the power of human beings to withstand horrifying circumstances, and with the right support, to be able to rise again.

When we know better, we do better with Associate Professor & Author Dr Robin DiAngelo

How can we be better allies in creating a fully diverse, equitable and inclusive world, for the health of our society and our future?

My guest this week is Dr. Robin DiAngelo, an Affiliate Associate Professor at the University of Washington, whose books, academic articles, and extensive work as a consultant and educator, addresses racial and social justice issues. She is the author of "White Fragility" which has been pivotal in shaping international dialogues on race and racism.

Robin gives us the opportunity to take a deep dive into race and racism and helps those of us who are white to break the silence about injustice, and to keep working to understand racism and how it infiltrates our behaviours, committing to ameliorate suffering in small and large ways wherever we come across it.
