In the Old Testament there's a story from Jacob's life that's peculiar to say the least. After working for seven years to marry Laban's daughter Rachel, He instead ends up with her sister Leah. Sin is an awful aspect of the human experience, but in God's love and mercy He has provided us a way to live free from it. How? Through His word. Our past can be riddled with pain and struggle, especially struggle with sin. Even so, you can move forward, but it takes trust in God and His complete work on the cross. It takes crossing over the Jordan river in front of us. It takes getting our feet wet in faith.
To be a spiritually hungry people, it's not only about seeking after the Lord. It's about praising Him for who He is! Praise is a lens through which we see God, and it has profound impacts on our view of God. The key to spiritual hunger is praise!
When the Children of Israel crossed the Jordan in the book of Joshua, they stacked stones as a testament to God's miracle working power. What has God already done for you? How has He miraculously intervened? Remembering His goodness in your past is the key to crossing over to your future.
God is not looking for perfection, He is looking for pursuit. There is a promise in scripture that reminds us that when we seek God with our whole heart, we find Him. Being a spiritually hungry people means seeking God with all we have!
