    About this Episode

Lewy Body Dementia (LBD) bears resemblance to both Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. It is a rapidly progressive degenerative disorder whose features include cognitive/executive impairment, REM sleep disorder, and persistent or recurrent visual hallucinations. Cognitive symptoms tend to fluctuate a great deal, and features similar to those of Parkinson’s disease are also noted. LBD is thought to afflict approximately 1.3 million Americans. Dr. Caroil Lippa, a neurologist recognized internationally for her contributions to the neurobiology of aging and dementia, will discuss this disorder.

As survival rates from war-time injury have increased, there are more veterans living a lifetime with conditions that impact on their cognitive health. Join Jimmy DeFoor and Dr. Brinkman as they discuss the response of the VA health care system to this situation.
