Light, Composition and Life With Pulitzer Prize Nominated Photographer Greg Kahn

Winter photography is something that I’ve been trying to get my head around for quite a while. In addition to the below zero temperatures to endure, there are technical and safety considerations to take into account. To understand this I went to one of my favorite landscape and winter photographers, Benjamin Williamson. He joins me from Maine to talk tips and tricks for good winter photography, photography in New England and his adventures in the back country in mid-winter. 

Sean Tucker is a photographer, author and YouTuber with an audience of over 500,000 subscribers. His work seeks to inspire others and help guide us along our creative journey as photographers. Joe Guerriero's journey as a photojournalist has led him across the world. Sometimes it's intentional. Sometimes it's not. From landing in Guatemala before an earthquake to being thrown in a Colombian jail for a mistaken marijuana charge, Joe makes the best of everything (including grabbing photos of his cellmates in prison). He met a Pakistani prince, a Bosnian refugee and shot olive oil wrestling in Turkey. You can’t make this stuff up if you tried. His photojournalism has given him opportunities to experience life to its fullest. Join me as he talks all about it in this episode of the Big Photo Hunt podcast.  

Happiness expert & Happier Now author Nataly Kogan joins me to talk about how creativity - whether photography, music or any form of “creating” - plays an essential role in our own happiness. We talk in detail about how my own journey of surrendering to my creative desires, after years of denying them, led me to more enjoyment, opportunity and success. This episode doesn't focus on the technicalities of photography. Rather, it offers an understanding of, and techniques to help you realize your full creative potential. Nicole young is an amateur photographer who just returned to the United States after living in Taiwan for three and a half years. In this episode we talk, among other topics, about her street photography experiences in Taiwan and her discovery and love for underwater photography. I also get into my purchase of the Ricoh GR3 and how using a crop sensor camera instead of a full-frame camera can lead to better candid photos. Michael Freas is an Asheville, North Carolina based photojournalistic wedding photographer. He picked up his first camera nine years ago. In the short time since, Michael went from zero to finding himself showered with prestigious awards and super busy as a wedding photographer. His photos have appeared in publications such as Kitesurfing Magazine, the New York Times and Rolling Stone and his business continues to grow. Michael's journey is one of grit, hustle and ambition. Michael's leaned heavily on learning from mentors to improve his photography. He joins this episode of the Big Photo Hunt to talk about his journey, the role mentors have played in it and... how to find the right photography mentor for you. 

Mayra Padilla is a San Francisco based marketing consultant with a side dish of photography. She joins this episode of the Big Photo Hunt to talk about how she is able to make photography a part of her busy life and how she gets gigs locally and internationally (hint: she goes so she can "learn"). She also talks about how she approaches shooting photos in Italy - a country that's been completely photographed, over and over, and inundated with tourists on every turn.
