    About this Episode

Hello, and welcome to our new Feature content, in the form of mini-sodes!

These bite-size episodes will give us a chance to explore many topics of interest to us that the book club episodes preclude, and to sample content without making it a whole thing. We hope you enjoy them!

Mini-sode #1 is about Neil Gaiman's Sandman, the comic and the character. Who is the Sandman? What are the comics about? How do you get into them? It's all revealed in this mini exposé!

Next week, we will be reading Sin City (1994): The Babe Wore Red (this link is to a collection, of which we are reading one issue). We invite you to read along with us.

Veronica's theme this season is Redemption (for characters we didn't like before). Monte's theme is Fem Fatales.

We finally appeared on The Colored Pages Book Club, to discuss the adorable Bingo Love! Also check out Monte, Veronica, and Melissa's separate guest appearances on Waiting on the Trade! Monte, Veronica, and Melissa also each appeared on Watching Netflix Without You! And Veronica and Melissa appeared together on Super Sideshow to discuss the finale of the Hawkeye TV show.

    Amazing Spider-Man Vol 2 #36 (The 9/11 Issue)

    Amazing Spider-Man Vol 2 #36 (The 9/11 Issue)

This week we got together to talk about a brief, single-issue of comics that was important for the time even if it slightly misses the mark. In November 2001, Marvel released an issue of The Amazing Spider-Man commemorating and memorializing the events of September 11, 2001. Join us as we chat about the comic itself and the broader issue it tackled.

For the next few episodes, we will be reading comics somewhat at random. We will go back to themed readings for Season 13 in February 2024, but for now we're just going to read whatever we want. Next week, we'll be revisiting a comic series we started literally years ago in Season 2 and reading Locke & Key Vol 2: Head Games.

    S12E10 - X-Men (1991) #1-3 "Rubicon"

    S12E10 - X-Men (1991) #1-3 "Rubicon"

The time has finally come to read the best-selling comic book of all time! This week, we read and discussed X-Men (1991) #1-3 "Rubicon", a story about a lot of things and also nothing. This story concludes Chris Claremont's iconic run of X-Men, and contains great character exploration of Magneto as well as an introduction to the structure of the X-Men for most of the 90s, where artists and writers like Jim Lee and Scott Lobdell would take the reins. While a bit frenetic and confused, it is a fun read that is well worth the time. And apparently millions of fans thought so too with over 4 million copies of the #1 issue sold, making it far and away the best-selling comic book issue of all time.

Veronica's theme for this season is stories from the DC Graphic Novels for Young Adults imprint. Monte's theme is the five top-selling superhero comic books of all time.

But when a new, vibrant girl from the city comes to town and draws Taylor in, she starts to realize that she not only hates the mask--there's space in the world for her to make the choice to ditch it, and people who will celebrate the true person who will be revealed.
