The dynamic between college football coaches and journalists can lead to heated exchanges, with Deion Sanders being a prime example of a coach who doesn't hesitate to shut down questions he deems irrelevant or disrespectful. During a game against Michigan, Sanders refused to answer certain questions from journalists, leading to criticism and accusations of being uncooperative. However, Sanders' actions were seen as motivation for himself and his team, and even sparked a sense of excitement and intrigue among fans. The incident also highlighted the double standard that exists in how coaches like Saban and Brown are treated compared to Sanders, with some fans and journalists reserving their harshest language for the latter. Polarizing coaches like Deion Sanders bring excitement and intrigue to college football, even if they sometimes make bold predictions or face criticism. Sanders and his team, TCU, have had a strong start to the season, and while some may dismiss their success, analysts believe they have a talented defense and a standout quarterback in Shador Sanders. Colorado, on the other hand, has made a surprising comeback, and their white uniforms look particularly good in victories. Meanwhile, coaches like Brian Kelly of Florida State are less popular, and their losses can be met with a sense of Schadenfreude. The rivalry between Colorado and Nebraska, once a great one, has shifted, with Colorado currently holding the upper hand. Ultimately, college football is full of unexpected twists and turns, and fans and analysts alike will continue to debate and discuss the performances of coaches and teams throughout the season.

    • LSU Fans' Mixed Feelings About Brian Kelly and Pac-12 ShakeupLSU fans compare Brian Kelly unfavorably to past coaches, while Pac-12 faces a significant shakeup with Stanford, Cal, and SMU joining the ACC, impacting the traditional alignment of conferences.

LSU fans have mixed feelings about Brian Kelly as their coach, but a subpar season from him could lead to serious discussions about his tenure. Fans are comparing him unfavorably to previous coaches like Les Miles and Ed Orgeron, who were liked despite their losing records. Meanwhile, the Pac-12 conference is facing a significant shakeup as Stanford, Cal, and SMU join the ACC, reportedly accepting lower financial offers to secure a stable home for their athletic programs. The unusual alignment of schools based on geography has sparked some amusement, with the Pacific and Atlantic seemingly merging into one. Despite these changes, top college football programs like UNC and Stanford continue to excel in various sports beyond basketball and football, showcasing the importance of a well-rounded athletic program.

    • Exciting changes in college football conference realignmentNew rivalries, potential championship structures, and notable off-field moments marked the start of the college football season. The Pac-12 may merge divisions and create a championship game, while Urban Meyer made headlines for his unexpected behavior at a coed event.

Conference realignment in college football could lead to exciting new rivalries and potential championship structures. The Pac-12, for instance, may need to merge divisions and create a championship game to meet NCAA requirements. This could result in a more competitive and engaging conference. Additionally, there were some notable off-field moments, including Urban Meyer's unexpected display of interest in a coed and Hugh Freeze's quick return to social media flirting. Shane Beamer, on the other hand, provided some comedic relief with his explanation for a missed kick. Lastly, Iowa made an impressive start to the season with their first opening touchdown pass since 1991, while Brian Ferentz faces pressure to meet Iowa's win and point average expectations. As for the "horniest dudes" in college football, Urban Meyer took the crown for his bold move at a coed event.

    • The Risks and Challenges of College Football GamblingGambling on college football involves risks and unpredictability, and it's crucial to follow the process and learn from mistakes.

The discussion revolves around the regret of overhyping a college football game between Texas Tech and Wyoming, resulting in a significant loss for the speaker. He acknowledged his mistake, accepted responsibility, and faced a suspension for his prediction. The speaker also emphasized the importance of following the process in gambling and the unpredictability of college football. Despite the rough start to the season, he remains optimistic about Tom's abilities and plans to tail his picks moving forward. The speaker also shared his personal experience of losing money during the games and blamed the media for influencing his decisions. Overall, the conversation highlights the risks and challenges of college football gambling and the importance of learning from mistakes.

    • Trust and Consistency in FootballTrust and consistency are crucial for job security and success in football. Unexpected factors can add excitement, while issues can negatively impact teams.

Trust and consistency are key factors in establishing job security and success in football, as exemplified by Drew Loehr's impressive performance at Penn State. Additionally, unexpected factors such as a team's draft picks or even the presence of a famous name like Shane McMahon's son on a roster, can add intrigue and excitement to the game. However, issues like reckless driving charges and coach controversies can also negatively impact a team's reputation and performance. Overall, the NFL and college football scenes are filled with a mix of talent, unpredictability, and drama.

    • Coaches' Unusual Comments and College Football's ChaosCoaches' comments about players' daughters create buzz, transfer portal adds confusion, and Jimmy Buffett's legacy inspires with stories of adventure and music

College football is back with its unique dynamics, including coaches making unusual comments about players and their daughters. A coach from Mizzou made headlines for expressing his desire for his underage daughter to date one of his players, which can be seen as both a compliment and a diss. The transfer portal has also added to the confusion, with players like JT Daniels and Keydon Slovis frequently changing schools. Sadly, we also lost a legendary figure, Jimmy Buffett, who was known for his fun-loving spirit and iconic songs that put people in a good mood. Despite his workaholic nature, Buffett made vacation a priority, inspiring millions with his music and carefree attitude. His ultimate Jimmy Buffett story involves an encounter with the Jamaican military, who mistook his plane for one carrying drugs, resulting in a near-shooting incident. Buffett turned the experience into a hit song, "Jamaica Mistaka," and continued to live his life with grace and humor.

    • Finding Joy in Baseball, Vacations, and FitnessEmbrace joy through baseball games, vacations, fitness challenges, and unexpected situations. Utilize Peloton for fitness growth and be prepared for the unexpected.

Experiencing joy and good times can be found in various forms, such as attending a baseball game with favorite music and enjoying vacations at places like Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville. Another key takeaway is the importance of pushing oneself during the spring season to improve fitness levels and make the most of warmer days. Peloton is an excellent resource for challenging workouts and growing skills. Lastly, an unexpected and unpleasant experience on a plane led to a humorous discussion about dealing with unexpected situations and the value of being prepared.

    • Win Colts tickets and VIP passes by sending a baby picFans can enter to win Colts tickets and VIP passes by sending a baby pic dressed as Jim Irsay or tweeting at PMT.

The Barstool Sports team, Big Cat and PFT, are giving away four tickets and two VIP sideline passes for every Indianapolis Colts home game this NFL season. Fans can enter by sending a picture of a baby dressed as Jim Irsay to the PMT intern email or tweeting at them. The team also announced that they will be attending a pup punk concert in Columbia, South Carolina, and the college football show will be in Tuscalosa for the first time. Additionally, they discussed their excitement about the Water Dogs making it to the semifinals in their fantasy football league. Big Cat shared his experience of becoming a Colts season ticket holder after Jim Irsay's push to sell the Washington Commanders, and the team expressed their appreciation for the Colts reaching out to them. Overall, the episode was filled with excitement for football, music, and giving back to the community.

    • Water Dogs team focuses on semis and finals, ignoring quarter finalsThe Water Dogs team maintains a winning mindset, dismissing quarter finals and concentrating on the semis and finals, while also sharing light-hearted moments and discussing various topics like sports injuries, fantasy football, and tennis.

The Water Dogs team has high expectations for themselves and is focused on winning the finals, rather than dwelling on quarter finals. They have a tradition of not watching quarter finals and instead waiting for the semis and finals. During the discussion, they also touched upon various topics such as Juju Smith Schuster's injury report, Florio's fantasy football team, and the US Open tennis tournament. A notable moment was their excitement about three American men reaching the quarter finals of the US Open, despite previously stating that quarter finals don't matter. They also shared their respect for Novak Djokovic and expressed their support for Tiafoe, who is also an American tennis player in the tournament. Overall, the team's mindset is centered around their goals and winning, with a touch of humor and banter throughout the conversation.

    • The US struggles in men's tennis, Djokovic's dominance, and Field Yates' unique nameThe US has not won a major men's tennis title since 2003, Novak Djokovic is considered the greatest of all time, and Field Yates, despite facing challenges with his unique name, finds comfort in being remembered

The United States has had a difficult time winning major tennis titles in recent history, specifically in the men's division, with the last major win coming from Radek Stepanek at the US Open in 2003. The conversation also touched on the dominance of Novak Djokovic, who is considered the greatest of all time. Additionally, there was a discussion about the unique name of the guest, Field Yates, and the challenges that come with having an uncommon name. Yates shared stories of being teased as a child and how it has followed him throughout his life. Despite the challenges, he finds solace in the fact that people remember his name. The interview concluded with a preview of an NFL segment with Field Yates.

    • NFL connections and career evolutionWorking in the NFL shaped the speaker's perspective, but life events led him to start a blog in Boston

The speaker, who worked in the NFL with Ryan Poles and Nick Sirianni, feels a sense of connection and rooting for their success, especially with Poles now being the Bears GM and Sirianni the Eagles head coach. The speaker's experiences in the NFL, including working closely with Todd Haley, influenced his perspective on life and career goals. While the goal was initially to be in football for a long time, the speaker also realized that life events and priorities can weigh heavily and lead to different paths. The speaker's journey from working in the NFL to starting a blog in Boston showcases the evolution of media and the importance of following one's passions.

    • Networking and perseverance led to unexpected opportunitiesHard work, networking, and being open to new opportunities can lead to unexpected career successes. Being in the right place at the right time and having the right mentors can also play a significant role.

Perseverance and networking can lead to unexpected opportunities. The speaker shared his experience of reaching out to hundreds of thousands of people in hopes of starting a career in sports media, but it was a response from one person, Mike Reese at ESPN Boston, that led to the start of his ESPN career. He also highlighted the importance of being in the right place at the right time, as he was part of a strong quarterback room with the Chiefs before Alex Smith's successful tenure, which ultimately led to the drafting of Patrick Mahomes. Additionally, the speaker discussed the impact of coaches and mentors, such as Bill Belichick, and how their guidance can shape one's career trajectory. Overall, the conversation emphasized the importance of hard work, networking, and being open to new opportunities.

    • Predicting AFC Playoff Teams: A Challenging TaskSeven AFC teams are expected to make the playoffs, with the Bills, Bengals, Jaguars, Chiefs, Titans, Jets, and Dolphins being top contenders. Uncertainty surrounds the Browns' quarterback situation with Deshaun Watson.

The AFC conference in the NFL is incredibly competitive this year, with seven teams making the playoffs being a challenging prediction due to the strength of multiple teams. The speakers discussed the teams they believe will make it, including the Bills, Bengals, Jaguars, Chiefs, Titans, Jets, and Dolphins. They also noted that teams like the Chargers, Browns, and Steelers, who were not mentioned, could potentially be contenders as well. The speakers also touched on the Browns' quarterback situation with Deshaun Watson and expressed uncertainty about his performance this season, despite the significant investment the team made in him. Overall, the conversation highlighted the depth and competitiveness of the AFC, making it an exciting conference to watch this NFL season.

    • The Chargers' struggles and the AFC's strong competitionDespite the Chargers' injury-prone roster and underperforming second half of last season, the real challenge lies in the AFC's formidable teams like the Ravens, Jets, and Bills.

The Chargers' lack of playoff appearances in recent years, coupled with their injury-prone roster and underperforming second half of last season, has left many questioning their potential this year. The vibes around the team seem to be contributing to this perception. On the other hand, teams like the Ravens, who have overcome adversity and are now thriving, have become fan favorites. The Ravens' ability to punch above their weight and the combination of young and experienced coaching has made them a formidable force in the AFC. While the Chargers' struggles are a topic of discussion, it's important to note that the strength of teams like the Ravens, Jets, and Bills makes it challenging for any team to stand out. Ultimately, the Chargers' argument for not making the playoffs may be less about the team itself and more about the strong competition in the AFC.

    • Impact of Offensive Line Health on NFL TeamsTeams with healthier offensive lines have better chances of making the playoffs in the AFC.

The health and strength of a team's offensive line can significantly impact their success in the NFL. The speaker expresses concern over the current state of offensive line depth in the league, with many teams, including the New York Jets, facing challenges in protecting their quarterbacks. He believes that if the Jets can successfully protect Aaron Rodgers, they could see improved performance on the field. However, this is a big "if," as the Jets' offensive line is currently considered one of the weaker units in the league. The speaker also notes that the influence of spread offenses in college football may contribute to longer development periods for offensive linemen in the NFL. Ultimately, he predicts that the teams with the healthiest offensive lines will have the best chances of making the playoffs in the AFC. He's particularly excited about Justin Ross, a wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, who he believes has the potential to be a game-changer despite being an undrafted free agent.

    • Chiefs' Offense Thrives Without John Ross, Mahomes' Faith in TalentDespite John Ross' absence, Mahomes and Chiefs' offense continue to excel, emphasizing the allure of fast, skilled players; Cowboys, with Dak Prescott, could surprise; NFL prioritizes QB contracts, setting Prescott for a large extension; NFC playoffs feature seven potential division winners

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs' offense can thrive even without John Ross, averaging 32 points per game. Mahomes' belief in Ross' potential, despite his past injuries, highlights the fascination with fast, talented players. The Dallas Cowboys, while often overlooked, could have a big year and are a topic of interest due to Dak Prescott's future. The NFL's focus on quarterback futures sets them apart from other sports, with Dak Prescott expected to sign a large contract extension. The NFC playoff picture is challenging, with seven teams to identify as division winners, including the Eagles, Vikings, Saints, 49ers, Seahawks, and Lions.

    • The impact of close game luck on NFL teams' recordsWhile talent and coaching matter, NFL records can be influenced by unpredictable close game luck. Teams need to focus on doing the small things right to maximize their chances of success.

While the Giants have a more talented team than last year, consistency in winning close games is rare in the NFL. Close game luck is unpredictable and can significantly impact a team's record. Last season, the Giants had an unusually high amount of success in the fourth quarter, but it's unlikely they can replicate that success exactly. The Vikings, who went 13-4 last season but only won by one score in the fourth quarter in most of their games, serve as an example of this unpredictability. The Giants' success with rookie quarterback Daniel Jones and head coach Brian Daboll is a factor, but luck also played a role. While it's impossible to control luck, the small things a team does correctly can influence it. The Giants will need to continue doing those things well to have another successful season. The NFL draft is another reminder of how much can change from year to year, with the order of top prospects shifting significantly. The Giants' current quarterback situation, with Daniel Jones and rookie third-round pick Davis Webb, is an example of this. The team will need to make the most of their talent and the right breaks to succeed.

    • NFL draft: Analyzing the San Francisco 49ers' decision to draft Trey LanceThe NFL draft involves risk and uncertainty, and teams may prioritize potential over experience, leading to questionable picks.

The NFL draft is a high-stakes game of strategy and prediction, and even the most experienced analysts can make mistakes. The discussion revolved around the San Francisco 49ers' decision to draft Trey Lance third overall in 2021, despite the upside of other quarterbacks being more apparent at the time. The speakers agreed that it was a questionable pick, as the trade was made early in March, before the draft, when the 49ers' intentions were still unclear. The allure of Trey Lance's potential overshadowed the downside of his limited NFL experience, and the fact that he would likely be a backup for at least the next few seasons. The conversation also touched on the inherent arrogance of coaches and their tendency to believe they can "fix" a problem player, often leading them to overlook potential downsides in favor of upside potential. The next trend in the NFL, according to the speakers, may be a shift towards more innovative offensive strategies or a renewed focus on defense.

    • Versatile defensive players and positionless defenseThe NFL is shifting towards more versatile defensive players and positionless defense, with lighter, unblockable linemen and linebackers becoming common. Offensively, tight ends are undercompensated and a 'tight end tax' may be necessary.

The NFL is increasingly embracing versatile defensive players who can adapt to various roles, as exemplified by the Giants' experiment with Isaiah Simmons. The trend of positionless defense is gaining popularity, with lighter, unblockable defensive linemen and linebackers becoming more common. On the offensive side, the tight end position is not receiving adequate compensation compared to other skill positions, and the league may be due for a "tight end tax" to address this imbalance. Other topics discussed included the potential impact of the franchise tag on contract negotiations and the possibility of changing the NFL draft process to allow top college prospects to enter the draft earlier.

    • Unconventional ways to make it into the NFLDedication, commitment, and adaptability are essential to making it in the NFL, even with unconventional methods like faking injuries or keeping all 65 players.

There are unconventional ways to make it into the NFL, such as faking an injury to become an undrafted free agent and then becoming extension eligible after two seasons. However, this strategy comes with the risk of having to endure two years of hardship. Another intriguing idea discussed was the possibility of an NFL team keeping all 65 players instead of cutting some during roster reduction. While this idea is intriguing, it raises questions about the NFL's rules and potential consequences, such as salary cap violations. The conversation also touched upon the challenges teams face when trying to get back to their previous roster sizes after going all-in and winning championships. Ultimately, making it to the NFL requires dedication, commitment, and a willingness to adapt to the league's ever-changing rules.

    • Josh Harris deflects attention from name change talks with awkward handshakeNew Commanders owner Josh Harris successfully changed the conversation from potential name change discussions by engaging in an awkward handshake with Joe Buck during the NFL game broadcast, allowing fans to focus on the football season instead.

Josh Harris, the new owner of the Commanders, successfully deflected attention from potential name change discussions by engaging in an awkward handshake with Joe Buck during the NFL game broadcast. This masterful move prevented the media and fans from focusing on the name change speculations. Harris is a football team enthusiast and is optimistic about the Ravens and Seahawks this season. Geno Smith of the Seahawks, who had a productive year despite injuries, is seen as a pendulum for the team. His past experiences as a backup quarterback have raised questions about his ability, but his ball placement and accuracy are impressive. The Seahawks' offensive line, which was previously criticized, showed significant improvement last season. However, the label of "sacks" is often misattributed to the offensive line rather than the quarterback, which can be a downside for mobile quarterbacks like Geno Smith. Overall, the NFL season is full of surprises, and the performances of teams and players continue to keep fans engaged.

    • ESPN's Pete Laviolette's Passion for College FootballPete Laviolette's dedication and expertise in college football, extensive preparation, and focus on specific teams exemplify his passion and commitment.

Pete Laviolette, a well-known figure in sports analysis at ESPN, is known for his dedication and expertise, particularly in college football. He is famous for his extensive preparation and knowledge, often arriving at the studio with numerous newspapers and digested information. His focus on specific teams, such as the Lions, is a testament to his passion and commitment. The speaker, Field Yates, shares a unique bond with Laviolette due to a misunderstanding on the internet, which has led to a friendly relationship. Despite his brief football career, Yates found success in lacrosse and has even joked about Belichick's interest in him due to his lacrosse background. The camaraderie and shared experiences among the ESPN team, even in the face of changes and challenges, highlight the importance of teamwork and resilience.

    • Reflecting on shared lacrosse past and the importance of special teams playersDiscovering late-round sleepers like Jordan Addison, Rashod Bateman, and Roshan Johnson in fantasy football drafts and recognizing the value of uncertain running back situations and later-drafted quarterbacks.

During a day spent with a college teammate in Chicago, the speaker reflected on the importance of their shared lacrosse past in their friendship, emphasizing that special teams players often go unnoticed in statistics. The conversation then turned to fantasy football, with the speaker discussing the concept of sleepers in drafts, focusing on late-round picks like Jordan Addison, Rashod Bateman, and Roshan Johnson. He also mentioned the importance of finding running backs in uncertain situations and quarterbacks with value despite their earlier draft positions. The speaker also mentioned his past experience working with Todd McShay and expressed excitement for future draft coverage.

    • Detroit Lions Rookie Running Back Jamere Gibbs Compared to Alvin KamaraRookie RB Jamere Gibbs is expected to make a big impact for Detroit Lions and in fantasy football leagues, with potential to surpass Alvin Kamara's level. Running quarterbacks like Daniel Jones are also valuable due to their ability to provide a solid floor.

Jamere Gibbs, a rookie running back for the Detroit Lions, is expected to have a significant impact on the team and in fantasy football leagues. His impressive performances during his rookie season, particularly after week 6, earned him comparisons to Alvin Kamara. Gibbs' potential is so great that even if he doesn't reach Kamara's level, he is still expected to be a valuable player. Additionally, running quarterbacks like Daniel Jones are valuable in fantasy football due to their ability to set a solid floor for teams. Despite coaches' claims that they will protect their quarterbacks more, many continue to run frequently, making running quarterbacks an essential asset in fantasy leagues.

    • Impact of Jake, Hank, and Max's absences on team performanceDespite their entertaining banter, the hosts' recent bets and vacations negatively affected team chemistry, but they remain committed to their show and continue their friendly competition.

The camaraderie and banter between Jake, Hank, and Max on their sports talk show bring unique charm and entertainment to their audience. However, their recent bets and vacations led to a decline in team performance, with Max emerging as the winner but also raising concerns about the impact of individual absences on team chemistry. Despite this, they remain dedicated to their show and look forward to continuing their friendly competition. Additionally, Field Yates made a memorable appearance, and Pardon My Cheesesteak introduced a new menu that is sure to satisfy various tastes.

    • Max's absence felt during podcast, awkward moment caused by Jerry's commentDuring a fantasy football segment, an inappropriate comment led to an awkward moment, but the hosts joked about it and apologized, while also discussing Max's former football career, Jerry's predictions, and other topics.

During a recent podcast discussion, Max was mentioned as a former 1st team All Pro player, and his absence was felt by the hosts. Jerry, one of the hosts, made an inappropriate comment during a fantasy football segment, leading to some awkward moments. Max was on vacation and returned to find his phone flooded with texts about the segment. The hosts joked about Jerry's obsession with Max and apologized for the uncomfortable topic. They also discussed Jerry's fantasy football predictions and their love for having him on the show. Additionally, Jake was teased for not bringing up his Yankees free agency targets during the podcast. The group also touched on various other topics, including Giannis and his brothers, Clemson's poor performance, and Duke Football's surprising success. Overall, the podcast showcased the camaraderie and lighthearted banter between the hosts.
