    About this Episode

Our Parsha marks a nadir in the story of mankind. Humanity sunk to such spiritual lows that the Almighty decided to destroy the world and start over with just Noah and his family as humanity's progenitors going forward. What were the conditions of the Flood's survivors after spending a year in the Ark? In this very special edition of The Parsha Podcast, we examine three fascinating elements about the emergence form the Ark that can totally reshape our worlds. This episode is, arguably and ironically, the high water mark of The Parsha Podcast. Give it a listen and tell me if you agree.

The requirement to love God is featured prominently in our religion. The Shema - the pledge of allegiance of our faith - contains the mitzvah to love God right after the first sentence of accepting his dominion. This is one of the six constant mitzvos. What is love and for God? How do we love God? And how does this facilitate the acquisition of Torah? In this very enjoyable ethics podcast, we answer these important questions.

Sacrifices, like many other things, can contract ritual impurity. When a sacrifice becomes ritually impure, it may not be consumed. Moreover, an impure person cannot consume any sacrifices. This is the first of many mitzvos related to purity and impurity.

What is the point of resurrection? This question has dual meanings: what is the goal of resurrection and what is the point from which resurrection begins? In this very important podcast we answer both questions. What we learn greatly enhances our understanding of resurrection and gives us the faint outlines of the road map that we must follow if we want to be meritorious to be included in the good type of resurrection.

The most ambitious initiative ever undertook in the history of mankind was the construction of the Tabernacle. Think about it: humans are getting together with the intent of constructing a residence for God on this Earth. And they pull it off! Our Parsha ends with the Presence of God dwelling in the Tabernacle. In this special edition of the Parsha Podcast, we present three different prerequisites for undertaking and executing such a bold initiative. If you want to change the world - or even change yourself - you need to listen carefully and take careful, copious notes.

Is a two-state solution a viable way to finally resolve the Israel Palestine conflict? Many in the international community believe that it is the only solution. After the horrific massacres of October 7th, 2023, the international community is once again amplifying the call for a two-state solution. Instead of punishing the Arabs for their violent acts of terrorism and unspeakable brutality, the international community took this opportunity to pressure Israel to make concessions and to take steps towards granting the Palestinians their own, independent state. Is this something which can ever happen? What do the Arabs really want? Do they want to live in harmony and peace with their Jewish neighbors? Is there any evidence that they willing to accept the existence and legitimacy of the state of Israel? From everything we know and from everything that history tells us, the answer is a resounding no. Allowing the Palestinians to have a state on Israel's borders would be a bloody catastrophe waiting to happen.

The final parsha in the Book of Exodus wraps up the account of the construction of the Tabernacle, and its vessels and vestments. Again and again we read the refrain that everything was done precisely how God commanded Moses.

Parsha: Vayakhel - The Third Path

Parsha: Vayakhel - The Third Path

There are three ways to achieve transcendental greatness: There is the path of intense practice and training in your desired field of excellence; there is the path of Bezalel who was endowed with supernatural abilities and preordained to greatness; and there is a third path -- the path of the ascension of heart. In our Parsha we learn about people who accomplished otherworldly things: Bezalel and his army of lieutenants built the Mishkan and its many vessels and accouterments. A deep study of the subject reveals that Bezalel and his volunteer helpers took different paths. In this Parsha Podcast we study the Third Path.

Torah was not given to angels. Torah was given to humans. One way to expand our ability to acquire Torah is by enhancing our humanity. The more human we are, the more we are a worthy receptacle of Torah. But what does it mean to be a human?

Parsha: Vayakhel - Heart Donor (5782)

The Torah's narrative surrounding the Tabernacle is not one-and-done an cut-and-dried. The Torah does not simply tell us that a Tabernacle was built with the requisite materials. Instead of a succinct detailing of the Tabernacle, the Torah tells the Tabernacle narrative in a sprawling and often repetitive fashion over the course of five Parsha sections. Why is the Torah obsessed with the Tabernacle? Why is the narrative surrounding God's Sanctuary the focus of so much of the Torah? What are the lessons of the Tabernacle for people like us, who have never seen a Tabernacle, and do not live in a world that (yet) contains one? In this special edition of the Parsha Podcast, we explore three fascinating frameworks for understanding the critical and indispensable lessons of the Tabernacle.
