DENGUE fever  - "No Aedes, No Dengue"

Today we'll unpack a totally preventable, vector-borne disease --> Dengue Fever.

However, as one of the NTDs, Dengue disproportionately affects those who are marginalized, have poor socio-economic status, and less favorable social determinants of health.

Along with current climate crisis, this vector-borne disease will see expansion into previously naïve community and geographic location --> causing outbreaks, morbidity and mortality.

World NTD Day - 30th January

Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) are a group of diseases that has high morbidity burden to the population with which it affects.

NTD forms a compounding problem for those already disadvantaged population and groups. COVID-19 pandemic and the vaccine maldistribution is another reflection of the underlying inequity in access and care, where you find vaccine inequity, there lies NTDs as well.

Addressing NTD is the right thing to do.

PHU 002: Epidemiological Triad or Triangle of Disease Causation

This is one triangle you don't want to miss.

The Epidemiological Triad or Triangle consists of:

    • Agent
    • Host
    • Environment

Join me as we unpack this triad and fit the current COVID-19 pandemic into this triangle.

You can further fit other infectious diseases into this triad and discover how each component interact and cause disease. By knowing how they interact and cause disease, we can better manage our risk of getting infected as well.
