Piers Morgan Uncensored: Tax Payers Tabs on Terrorists, Frederick Forsyth, Vivek Ramaswamy

    enFebruary 27, 2023

    Podcast Summary

    • Young Radicals and Complex DecisionsThe case of Shamima Begum highlights the dilemma society faces when dealing with young individuals who make harmful choices, raising questions about accountability, rehabilitation, and the cost of monitoring homegrown terrorists. Root causes of radicalization and effective support systems for at-risk youth are crucial.

Society faces complex decisions when dealing with individuals who make harmful choices at a young age. The discussion around Shamima Begum's case highlights this dilemma. At 15, she left the UK to join an Islamic death cult, justifying her actions with the idea of retaliation. Now, she's advocating for her return, arguing she's capable of making adult decisions. Some argue she was groomed, but Begum insists she made her own choice. The UK stripped her of citizenship, but its terrorism watchdog now suggests bringing her back for justice. The debate raises questions about accountability, rehabilitation, and the cost of monitoring homegrown terrorists. Ultimately, it's a reminder that addressing the root causes of radicalization and providing effective support systems for at-risk youth is crucial.

    • Discussing Shamima Begum's Return and CitizenshipComplexities surround Shamima Begum's return to UK and potential citizenship, with arguments for compassionate approaches to dealing with child victims of extremism, and concerns about costs and citizenship status.

The discussion between Amar Anwar and Peter Galbraith highlights the complexities surrounding the issue of Shamima Begum's return to the UK and her potential citizenship. Anwar argues that she should not be abandoned in Syria or other countries that have suffered from foreign fighters, and emphasizes that she was a child victim of trafficking, radicalization, and child exploitation when she joined ISIS at the age of 15. Galbraith raises concerns about the potential cost to taxpayers and the fact that Begum held dual Bangladeshi citizenship, which was revoked by that country. However, Anwar points out that citizenship should not be based on race or ethnicity, and that Begum's actions do not negate her status as a victim of exploitation. The conversation also touches on the debate around a 15-year-old's ability to consent to marriage and sexual activity. Ultimately, the discussion underscores the need for nuanced and compassionate approaches to dealing with individuals who have been involved with extremist groups, particularly those who were radicalized as children.

    • Upholding the rule of law for British citizens abroadRegardless of individual circumstances or public opinion, the rule of law should be upheld for British citizens who commit crimes abroad. This was emphasized through the case of Shamima Begum and the importance of its implementation, even if against popular opinion.

The rule of law should be upheld regardless of individual circumstances or public opinion. In the discussion, it was emphasized that if a British citizen commits crimes abroad, they should be brought back, investigated, and prosecuted. This was illustrated with the case of Shamima Begum, who left the UK to join ISIS and is currently being denied entry back into the country due to her involvement in the group. The discussion also touched upon the importance of the rule of law and its implementation, even if it goes against popular opinion. It was noted that laws and societal norms have changed throughout history, but the rule of law remains constant. Additionally, a Manchester bombing survivor shared his perspective, expressing a lack of remorse from Begum and reiterating the importance of the rule of law.

    • The Complex Case of Shamima BegumThe case of Shamima Begum, a British citizen who joined ISIS, highlights the need for a nuanced approach to dealing with individuals who have been radicalized and have committed or witnessed atrocities, with considerations for their potential for rehabilitation, accountability, and citizenship.

The case of Shamima Begum, a British citizen who joined ISIS in Syria at the age of 15, remains a complex and controversial issue. While some argue for compassion and the possibility of her rehabilitation, others believe she should be held accountable for her actions and the crimes she witnessed and may have been complicit in. The United States has a different approach, allowing individuals like Begum to return and face trial as juveniles. However, critics argue that Begum's lack of remorse and her continued manipulation make her a dangerous person. The issue of her citizenship and where she should be tried is also complicated, as she could potentially be considered Bangladeshi as well. The international community is urged to help the Kurds conduct trials in Syria for those who have committed crimes while in the region. Ultimately, the situation highlights the need for a nuanced approach to dealing with individuals who have been radicalized and have committed or witnessed atrocities.

    • Debates on Treatment of Criminals and Controversial FiguresOngoing debates question the treatment of individuals like Shamima Begum and the rewriting of classic novels, highlighting complexities and nuances surrounding justice, citizenship, and cultural sensitivity.

There are ongoing debates about the treatment of individuals who have committed crimes or been involved in controversial situations, such as Shamima Begum and the rewriting of classic novels like those featuring Ian Fleming's James Bond. Regarding Shamima Begum, some argue that she should face trial and return to the UK due to her British citizenship, while others question why resources should be spent on her when she was radicalized as a minor. The discussion also touched on the rewriting of classic novels to remove offensive terms and attitudes, with opinions divided on whether this amounts to modernization or airbrushing history. Ultimately, these debates highlight the complexities and nuances surrounding issues of justice, citizenship, and cultural sensitivity.

    • Age, responsibility, and cultural heritageThe age of criminal responsibility and understanding of right and wrong are complex issues. While some argue for accountability for young offenders, others emphasize the importance of education and context in dealing with offensive language in historical works and modern contexts.

The age of criminal responsibility and the understanding of right and wrong are complex issues. The speaker argues that if a 10-year-old can be held criminally liable, then a 15-year-old, like the unfortunate Shamay Mabagan, should not be exempted from accountability for joining a terrorist organization. The speaker also expresses concern over the increasing trend of "wokeism" and censorship, which could potentially erase historical literature and art. They argue that context is important when considering the use of offensive language in classic works, and that the focus should be on education and understanding rather than erasure. The speaker also expresses their personal stance against the use of offensive language in modern contexts, particularly in rap music, as it can perpetuate harmful messages. Overall, the discussion highlights the importance of nuanced conversations around age, responsibility, and the preservation of cultural heritage.

    • The role of sensitivity readers in literature: Balancing artistic freedom and protectionSensitivity readers in literature spark debate over artistic freedom vs. protection from offensive content, with no clear consensus on qualifications or application of rules.

The role of a sensitivity reader in literature is a complex and controversial issue. While some argue that it's important to remain true to an author's vision and not censor their work, others believe that certain offensive content should be removed or labeled with a disclaimer. The debate raises questions about the hierarchy of what is considered offensive and how one becomes qualified to be a sensitivity reader. Some argue that it's absurd to think that one can become qualified in just a week. The discussion also touched on the inconsistency of applying rules to certain authors and works, such as Roald Dahl, and the importance of allowing readers to make their own decisions about what they read. Ultimately, it's a matter of balancing the need to protect sensitive readers from potentially harmful content with the importance of preserving artistic freedom and expression.

    • Fear of censorship and control in modern cultureThe push for 'wokeness' and political correctness could lead to the suppression of important works and the erosion of individual freedom, rather than protecting people from being offended.

There's a concern about the potential for censorship and control in modern culture, particularly in relation to literature and education. The speaker expresses a fear that the push for "wokeness" and political correctness could lead to the suppression of important works and the erosion of individual freedom. They argue that this isn't about protecting people from being offended, but rather about exerting control and imposing a particular worldview. The speaker also criticizes the lack of logic and humanity in these efforts, citing examples of rewritten lyrics and propaganda in the media. Ultimately, they believe that this trend could have dangerous consequences, leading to the suppression of art and the stifling of free thought. The speaker also mentions an upcoming interview with a presidential candidate who is on an "anti-woke crusade," suggesting that this is a pressing issue that needs to be addressed.

He aims to build on the foundation laid by previous leaders while addressing issues like race-based affirmative action and climate religion. Ramaswami believes that people are hungry for a clear sense of national identity and is willing to speak truthfully about these topics, despite potential backlash. • Running on Substance and SpecificityVivek Ramaswamy believes his candidacy will be defined by clear solutions, focusing on winning the Republican nomination, and being prepared for political backlash from Trump.

Vivek Ramaswamy believes his candidacy for the Republican nomination will be defined by substance and specificity, and he intends to beat Donald Trump by focusing on clear solutions rather than complaining or eliminating competition. Ramaswamy emphasizes the importance of addressing the elephant in the room - winning the Republican nomination - and believes that his lack of fear of political backlash sets him apart from previous Republican presidents. He encourages an open debate and believes that the best ideas and candidate will ultimately win. Ramaswamy is confident in his ability to beat Trump and intends to see the election through all the way. He also acknowledges that as he becomes a bigger threat, Trump may come after him more aggressively, but Ramaswamy is prepared for this challenge.

    • Vivek Ramaswamy's Determination to Unite America and Work with TrumpRepublican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy is determined to revive America and work with Trump, despite potential name-calling. He opposes censorship and has a unique perspective on Europe.

Vivek Ramaswamy, a Republican candidate, expressed his determination to revive America and work with Donald Trump, despite potential name-calling. He believes that both Trump and himself genuinely care about national unity and that they could collaborate, with Trump serving as an adviser. Ramaswamy also expressed his opposition to censorship and his enthusiasm for being in the race. When asked about Brexit, Freddie, a panelist, believed that the current deal is an improvement, despite initially voting against it due to the unresolved issue of Northern Ireland. Ramaswamy's approach to uniting the country and his willingness to collaborate with Trump, even if it means enduring name-calling, sets him apart in the race. His opposition to censorship and his love for Europe demonstrate his unique perspective.

    • Brexit in Northern Ireland: Complex and UncertainThe Brexit situation in Northern Ireland continues to pose challenges, contributing to a slower UK economic growth rate and raising questions about Brexit's long-term sustainability

The Brexit situation in Northern Ireland remains complex and uncertain, with potential implications for the UK as a whole. Despite efforts to maintain the integrity of the union, the unique nature of Brexit and its aftermath have created challenges. The situation has contributed to a slower economic growth rate in the UK compared to other G7 countries. It's important to note that the lack of tangible benefits from Brexit, especially in the new protocol, raises questions about its long-term sustainability. The longer this issue drags on, the more precarious the UK's position may become in the eyes of investors and the international community.

The first US presidential debate was held last night, and for Joe Biden supporters at least, it was a nightmare come to life. While Donald Trump predictably resorted to embellishment and non-truths, the President seemed frail, confused and lost. Joining Piers Morgan Uncensored to dissect this debacle is podcaster Vinny Oshana, host of The Young Turks Cenk Uygur, Trump’s former lawyer Jenna Ellis, Twitch streamer Hasan Piker, Republican US Senate candidate for Arizona Kari Lake, Joe Biden's former White House advisor Moe Vela and RNC spokeswoman Elizabeth Pipko. Suffice it to say, the pro-Biden camp spoke to his legislative achievements, but no one seems to want to defend the performance that was seen around the world.

Assange Walks Free: The Debate w/RFK Jr.

After years of legal battles and tensions with the governments of multiple countries, WikiLeaks founder and Australian citizen Julian Assange left a UK prison following a London High Court bail order on Monday.

Assange is expected to plead guilty to a single espionage charge in a court appearance on a tiny US-controlled Pacific island and prosecutors will seek a sentence equivalent to time served.

US officials were pursuing the Australian over charges related to a huge disclosure of secret files in 2010, which they said put lives in danger.

Jeffrey Sachs: On Putin's Peace Demands

Jeffrey Sachs: On Putin's Peace Demands

President Putin wants peace. At least that’s what he wants you to believe.

The Russian dictator has, for the first time, outlined his terms for a ceasefire in Ukraine.

He’s demanding the complete withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from four regions which are currently occupied by Russia, and which it claims to have annexed.

Italy’s prime minister Giorgia Meloni, speaking at this weekend’s peace summit of world leaders, said he’s effectively telling Ukraine to withdraw from… Ukraine.

But if Putin’s real aim was to feign innocence for his apologists and score another propaganda victory, he may have been successful.

To debate, We're joined by Professor Jeffrey Sachs.

Fiona Harvey, the "real Martha" from Baby Reindeer, is suing Netflix for a whopping 175 million dollars.

The 34-page lawsuit claims the streaming giant is responsible for "the biggest lie in TV history" over its portrayal as Fiona as a twice-convicted and twice-jailed stalker.

Its also contends that Netflix 'did nothing' to prevent Harvey from being identified and that, as a result, her life has been 'ruined'.

Media commentators say the result of the case could change how 'true stories' are portrayed in TV and cinema forever.

Is Joe Biden Fit for Duty?

    Princess of Wales Returns!

    Princess of Wales Returns!

The Princess of Wales made a triumphant return to public duties this weekend.

It was her first official public appearance since Christmas Day.

Kate revealed that she is still receiving treatment, including chemotherapy, for an unspecified form of cancer. That treatment is expected to continue for several months.

But make no mistake, this was a huge moment for the royals in an historically wretched year.

King Charles, aged 75, is still fighting cancer too.

Conspiracy theories swirled for months about the health and whereabouts of Princess Catherine. Her badly-edited Mother’s Day photograph was an unmitigated PR disaster.

But this weekend, against all odds, she was back at her glamorous best. And the crowds loved it.

So, have the royals now turned a corner on a dark chapter?

Have the Kate-spiracies been banished for good? Or were they - in fact - correct?

And has there EVER been a more feeble attempt to overshadow a state occasion than Meghan Markle’s decision to unveil a range of dog biscuits on the very morning of Kate’s return?

Uncensored contributor Paula Rhone-Adrien, Royal Editor, Sarah Hewson & Royal Historian Tessa Dunlop join to debate.

But first, Fox News contributor, Dr Marc Siegel gives his thoughts.

Elliot Lecture: 'The History of the Russian-Soviet Soul'

Elliot Lecture: 'The History of the Russian-Soviet Soul'
St Antony's College hosts the 2015 Nobel Prize winner in Literature, Svetlana Alexievich, for a discussion of her the Soviet soul and her current and former projects. Conducted in Russian and translated by Oxford DPhil student Margarita Vaysman, the discussion captures key insights into Alexievich's writing process, often described as a new genre between journalism and literature for her extensive usage of interviews to craft a global voice. Alexievich explains the pique of her interest for storytelling from a conversation with her grandmother and the methods she uses to approach her subjects as neighbors who form part of the same history of the Soviet experience. Her profound musings on truth, suffering and evil versus good provide a broader context for her works Second-Hand Time (newly translated to English this year) and Chernobyl Prayer as well as many others.

53 - Arab Uprisings: Syria | The Bethnal Green Girls

53 - Arab Uprisings: Syria | The Bethnal Green Girls

On February 17th, 2015, three teenage girls from Bethnal Green, London, boarded a flight at Gatwick Airport for Istanbul, Turkey. The schoolgirls — Amira Abase, Shamima Begum, and Kadiza Sultana — weren’t headed for a Mediterranean holiday; they were en route to Syria to join the Islamic State — otherwise known as ISIS or Daesh.

The news shocked the British public. Though thousands of men — and at least dozens of women — had already traveled from Europe to Syria and Iraq to join jihadist organizations, the idea that three straight-A students would run away from home to join a terrorist syndicate seemed incomprehensible.

So, why did Amira, Shamima, and Kadiza leave their relatively guarded lives in East London to join the Islamic State? What has happened to them in the meantime? And — most important to our discussion of the Syrian Civil War — what is to be done with the ISIS members who remain?
