    About this Episode

We've rebooted, and we're back! With a brand new format to our podcast. The art is new, the music is new, the structure is new, but we're afraid to say the hosts are the same.

In this week's episode we talkabout some of the big releases of January, as well as bringing up any pieces of news that caught our eye.
We decide which Care Bear we'd be, discuss the actors in Poor Things and recount the Jurassic Park franchise...sort of. All in under an hour. Enjoy!

Jason Statham in The Holdovers would be crazy. All the staff and students would go home for Christmas but the Stath would have to fight off bandits and thugs with the help of a stern, grieving cook and a troubled young apprentice.

    Recent Episodes from talkabout

Dune: Part Two, Argylle, The Iron Claw

Dune: Part Two, Argylle, The Iron Claw

In this week's episode, we talkabout some of the big releases of the past month, as well as discussing those big movie news stories that have been doing the rounds.
We gush over Dune: Part Two, share our confusion about Argylle and speculate who the Doctor Doom could be to the MCU's Fantastic Four. We also give reviews of The Iron Claw, Mr & Mrs Smith, All of Us Strangers, The Greatest Night in Pop, American Fiction and Wicked Little Letters.

The plot for Dune: Messiah was leaked, and the titular Messiah will not be Paul Atreides as expected, but instead it will be a battle between Agent Argylle and Kevin Von Erich for the top spot. Can Kevin outlast the water of life?  How many Fremen does it take to break an Argylle? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

    Minions

    Minions

In this week's episode we talkabout the 2015 animated box office smash: 'Minions'. Though we spend most of the episode talking about anything else; from our favourite fruit to Game of Thrones battles, it's not hard to notice that we're less than enthusiastic about our topic of discussion this week.
We do discuss Kevin the Kaiju, ponder over other villainous leaders the Minions may have followed and question King Bob's rise to the power. Ultimately deciding if it deserves a spot on our DVD shelf. Loka ta sagas.

Godzilla x Kong x Kevin the Minions hits cinemas at the end of March. You don't want to miss the team up event of the year!

    Baby Driver

    Baby Driver

In this week's episode we are joined by ANDY SHARPE to talkabout Edgar Wright's 2017 feature 'Baby Driver'. Full to the brim with car chases, killer tracks and larger than life characters, it's an underrated, under appreciated modern day classic.
We discuss the ending of the film in all its ambiguity, tell eachother what our killer track would be and receive frequent reminders about seat belt safety from our guest.

Though perhaps not as tightly choreographed, driving along to Bellbottoms does create a unique feeling. It's a feeling of anarchy and riot as you drive along (to the speed limit) feeling like the absolute business. Reverse bay parking to a bit of yodelling; taking the second exit at a roundabout to those opening stabs; though it maybe doesn't look as impressive, it feels amazing!

    Cars

    Cars

In this week's episode we talkabout the 2006 Pixar feature: 'Cars'. With an immense soundtrack, animation that holds up and an emotional story, it's a classic from the height of Pixar's glory days.
We discuss the unexpected amount of arse references, rank the film alongside other Pixar classics and attempt to work out where the Cars in this world come from? Baby cars? Machines? Do cars make cars? You'll probably be none the wiser by the end of the episode. Kachow!

Selling Piston Cups now on Vinted. Hudson Hornet's for sale £5 a pop, Chick Hicks' is on for £1.50. Accepting lower offers.

    Crazy, Stupid Love

    Crazy, Stupid Love

In this week's episode we talkabout the 2011 Romantic-Comedy: 'Crazy, Stupid Love'. With a knockout cast of people still relevant over 10 years later, and an almost timeless script it seemed a good way to kick off our new episode style.
We discuss that exceptional garden scene, come up with alternate titles for the film and talkabout the film's highs, lows and all such in-between. You'd be crazy and stupid to not love this episode!

Perspective of time really comes in to play when you realise that Steve Carell had already played Gru by the time this film came out...that is crazy! 'Despicable Me' began last year we're sure of it.

talkabout: The Reboot. The Requel. The Soft Reset.

We're taking a short break to prepare for some big changes at 'talkabout'. Each episode will now be dedicated to an individual film, taking our loved 'On the Shelf' concept and turning it into a full podcast. We'll still be bringing you our wrapped episodes with current reviews, but they'll sound a bit different too.

Thank you to everybody whose supported our podcast. From the one episode "that'll do-ers", to the 170 episode binge listeners, we love doing this podcast and hope you've found some comfort and entertainment from listening to us. We'll see you at the start of February with the first episode of talkabout's reboot.

For now, enjoy this very short episode!

    170. The talkabout Awards 2023

Welcome to the 4th annual talkabout awards!

This week Ellis & Gwilym are reading out the winners to the 2023 talkabout Awards, voted for by listeners and social media followers. We're celebrating all things film and TV that released in the past 12 months and giving awards like Best Film, Best TV Series, Best Beard, Performance of the Year, Cinema Moment and more!

We create a Mount Rushmore of people who had great 2023's, discuss those films that we loved that didn't get a nomination and we listen back to five of our favourite moments from the podcast in 2023.

Thanks for all your support this year, and for continuing to listen to our podcast. We've got some excited things planned so watch this space. Enjoy the awards, and thanks for voting.

    169. December Wrapped | Wonka, Godzilla Minus One, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget

This episode is brought to you by giraffe-milk macarons, giant lizards and Sir Eat-a-Lot.

This week Ellis & Gwilym deliver long overdue reviews of the releases of December. Wonka, Godzilla Minus One, the third season of What If..?, Next Goal Wins, The Boy and The Heron, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, Leave the World Behind, Ferrari, Rebel Moon and more.

We discuss the state of Marvel in the news section and get excited about Kung Fu Panda 4. Plus, we chat about some brand new trailers.

What if Mrs Tweedy turned to making chocolate? Would it be recipe for success or disaster, and how poorly would she treat the cocoa beans? Actually it doesn't bear thinking about. A Godzilla chocolate factory would be less fatal.

    168. List 'em up: Christmas

    168. List 'em up: Christmas

"Come in...and know me better man!"

This week we talkabout wet bandits, little buddy diapers and holiday hoobiwhaties as we rank the Top Ten Christmas films (voted for by listeners and social media followers). Anything in the slightest bit Christmassy could have been put forward for this list, and every individual list has been put together to create an overall Top Ten.
We also kick the episode off with some Christmas-themed questions.

If your family are going away for the festive season, make sure to follow these simple steps to allow you to get to the airport safely:
    1. Don't wish your family would disappear
    2. Don't sleep on the top floor
    3. Don't moan about the lack of cheese pizza
    4. Don't get called a disease
    5. Don't have a- wait, Kevin McAllister actually got a really hard time of it. Poor kid!

Enjoy! And have a very Merry Christmas x
