Royal Lawsuit Could Cost Taxpayers £12,000,000: The royal lawsuit, potentially funded by public money, contradicts rising costs for entrepreneurs, creators, and the public.
The Prince Andrew lawsuit, which is reportedly costing £12,000,000, could potentially be funded by public money through increased taxes. This comes at a time when entrepreneurs, creators, and the public are already facing rising inflation, cost of living, and increased taxes. The royals, including the Queen, receive special tax breaks and large payouts from the public purse through a sovereign grant, which has significantly increased in recent years. Some argue that this situation is fundamentally wrong and that the public should not bear the burden of funding such expenses. The speaker believes that this should not happen and that the royal family's financial arrangements should be reevaluated.
The royal family's income sources and potential tax exemptions: The royal family may not pay corporation tax on their income from private estates, while the public funds their expenses. This raises questions about fairness and equitable use of public funds.
The royal family, specifically Prince Andrew, may not pay corporation tax on their significant income from their private estates, while the public funds various expenses for the royal family. This includes estimated security costs of 200 million pounds and income from wind farms, private estates, and other sources. The Duchy of Lancaster, a private estate of the British sovereign, may be the source of income for Prince Andrew's settlement, which could potentially be offset as a business expense. This raises questions about the fairness of the current system, as the public pays taxes on their own property and income, while the royal family does not. The public's money may also be used to fund lawsuits against members of the royal family. It's essential to have an open conversation about the financial implications of the monarchy and ensure that the public's money is being used equitably.
Government Spending and Increased Taxes: The UK government's pandemic spending may result in increased taxes for citizens, including inheritance tax, and the overall tax burden is estimated to be around 70p per pound. This situation has caused concern for business owners and individuals, leading to discussions of leaving the country.
The speaker believes the UK government's spending during the pandemic, estimated at 18.5 billion pounds, will lead to increased taxes for citizens, including an increase in inheritance tax. The speaker also expresses concern about the overall tax burden, which they estimate to be around 70p in every pound earned or spent. They believe this situation is unsustainable and have heard of business owners and individuals considering leaving the country due to high taxes. The speaker also mentions the historical practice of debasing currency to reduce debt as a cause of inflation. In essence, the speaker is expressing frustration over the perceived financial burden being placed on citizens due to government spending.
Monarchy's use of public funds for Prince Andrew's lawsuit: The monarchy could focus on fostering business growth and productivity to increase tax revenue instead of using public funds for lawsuits, which could raise ethical concerns and public dissatisfaction.
The British monarchy could potentially use public funds to cover Prince Andrew's lawsuit costs, which some argue is a business expense using the Duchee of Lancaster's private estate. However, this approach raises ethical concerns and could contribute to public dissatisfaction. Instead, the monarchy could focus on fostering a thriving commerce industry by encouraging business growth and productivity to increase tax revenue and improve the economy. Inflation, while reducing the monarchy's debt, also erodes the value of people's money and adds to public discontent. The speaker emphasizes the need for transparency and fairness in the use of public funds and encourages viewers to share their concerns.
Focusing on productivity and economic growth: Public figures and institutions should prioritize increasing productivity and economic growth for the benefit of all, rather than competing for larger shares of public funds.
Instead of fighting for a larger share of the public funds they receive, public figures and institutions should focus on increasing productivity and economic growth for the benefit of all. This was the suggestion made during the discussion, although it was acknowledged that not everyone in government may fully understand business and economics. Another intriguing point raised was the potential for Prince Andrew's legal payout to be written off as a business expense using public funds. This raises questions about the transparency and fairness of such financial transactions, especially when a significant portion of the income for the royal family comes from the public. The disparity between the substantial increase in the royal family's income from the public and the average wage growth was also highlighted, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that public funds are used effectively and equitably. Overall, the discussion underscored the need for better understanding of economics and commerce within government and the importance of transparency and fairness in the use of public funds.

"We did a series of transactions in the three, four years after 2008, the each time step changed the size of our business. And we double down in that period of good fortune where all these opportunities were coming at us rather than taking our foot off the gas."
"As we grew B&M, we decided that we were going to spend none of our turnover on advertising. We built a business from 20 shops to five billion of revenue with no advertising budget."
"I personally negotiated something like 17 million square feet of UK retail selling space. 750 large stores at the risk of sounding immodest. No individuals ever done that in UK retail."
"The entrepreneurs that really make a difference and create great organszations are the ones that optimise their success. That periods of good look, they double down, they take full advantage of it rather than thinking, well, this is fine."
