    More Brain Hacks to Increase Your Focus and Productivity

    1. SCHEDULE 30 MIN "THINK TIMES" – Often, we find ourselves so wrapped up in doing things the way we always have that we miss out on more efficient ways of doing them. They may be things we have done for years or even decades. Each week, schedule 10-30 minute “think times” to look at our lists and really think about each one, then ask the following questions:

    •       Is there a more efficient way of doing this?
    •       Can I recruit, hire or delegate it out and use my time more wisely?
    •       Is there a way I can do this better if I gain the right education or ask for experienced advice?
    •       Is this something else I really need to be giving my time and attention?
    •       Can I creatively alter this to make it faster, better or more economical? (i.e. think outside the box)

    2.      THE TWO MINUTE RULE – If any task will require only two minutes to complete, don’t put it off until later. Often we will bypass emails, procrastinate on small jobs or neglect putting things in their place simply because we may view them as unimportant or unpleasant. Doing this only adds to our burden and lengthens our task list, unnecessarily. This, in turn, leads to more stress and creates a non-productive environment.  Choosing to develop this one habit eliminates a vast portion of those “nagging” tasks that we so often delay in completing.

    3.      ACCOUNTABILITY – Seek out a mentor, coach or accountability partner to share your goals with, who will hold you accountable and encourage you to accomplish them. This piece is highly valuable and well worth any time or monetary investment you might make. I often hear clients say, for the most part, they know what to do but just can’t get themselves to do it. Even verbalizing what we want to accomplish to another human being can make us more committed than if we “go it alone.” All of the greatest achievers will tell you that they did not reach greatness alone.
