On the latest episode of the Conduit Street Podcast, Hilary Ruley joins Kevin Kinnally and Michael Sanderson to explain why new and evolving technologies like body-worn cameras present unique challenges under Maryland's Public Information Act and the need for more balanced rules for releasing body-worn camera footage -- one that preserves transparency and accountability while protecting victims, families, and witnesses.

2023 MACo Legislative Initiative: Centralized Resources for Body-Worn Cameras
State law will soon require body-worn cameras for all law enforcement officers, but advancing this goal remains elusive. Requiring each agency, no matter how small, to create its regime for equipment procurement, footage storage, and redaction policies invites widespread duplication of effort. Moreover, requiring state laws regarding wide-open public access to the footage presents an ominous burden on custodians to carefully redact material to protect victims, families, and witnesses.
MACo advocates for a smoother deployment of this critical technology, including an opt-in State/local partnership for the equipment and services and more balanced rules for releasing body-worn camera footage.

www.commsolutionsmn.com- It's hard to believe what we see going on in front of our eyes. Cities do some stupid things. No, I mean, they do some stupid things. I mean, it's more about image than justice. It's more about looking woke than actually doing right by all of the residents that they serve. Take (for instance) the city of Brooklyn Center, who agreed to pay $3.25 Million to the family of Daunte Wright, but they didn't want to hurt the taxpayers. What? Who do you think paid for that?
We've also found stories about cities putting more power into the hands of unelected employees. Others are predetermining what kinds of housing they want instead of letting the market decide. New Hope accrued $11 Million in assets, while leaving over 90% of their debt unpaid. That seems out of balance. We also take a look at the radicals running in Robbinsdale and looking to tip it into absolute lunacy and failure.
We also recount our reaction to the recent overturn of Roe v Wade and discuss the coming implications, state-to-state differences, and what (if anything) should be handled federally. We also conjecture a bit on what will happen in Minnesota abortion law over the next year or two.
