    • Starting weight loss journey with PlushCare and celebrating Mother's Day with Blue NileReconnect with loved ones, prioritize self-care, and appreciate the influence of tradition on modern life.

PlushCare offers a convenient and efficient way to start your weight loss journey with online access to certified physicians who can prescribe FDA-approved medications. Meanwhile, Blue Nile provides an opportunity to celebrate Mother's Day with beautiful and exquisite jewelry pieces. During their conversation, Peter Crouch and his guest discussed the importance of reconnecting and taking care of oneself, as well as the influence of older generations on modern relationships. The 1950s home economics book extract shared by Crouch's father highlighted the importance of preparing a warm welcome for one's husband, minimizing noise, and avoiding greeting him with problems or complaints. Overall, the episode emphasized the significance of self-care, reconnecting with loved ones, and the influence of tradition on modern life.

    • Observing shifts in power dynamics in relationshipsMarry someone you truly love and maintain a balance between work and personal life to build a successful and fulfilling relationship.

The dynamics of relationships and gender roles have evolved significantly over the years, but some men may still struggle to adapt to the changes, particularly when it comes to marriage and family life. The speaker shares her experience of observing her friends' relationships and noticing the power shift that occurs when a man gets engaged or married. She also emphasizes the importance of marrying someone you truly love to avoid potential conflicts and dissatisfaction. The conversation also touches upon the importance of maintaining a balance between work and personal life, and the need for men to be more engaged and involved in domestic responsibilities. Overall, the discussion highlights the importance of communication, understanding, and flexibility in navigating the complexities of modern relationships.

    • The importance of being true to oneself and othersWhile appearances can be deceiving, it's essential to communicate openly and understand each other's motivations to build strong relationships. Be true to yourself and others, even when external pressures may sway you.

While some people may put on a bold exterior and make grand promises, they may not always live up to them. Scott, for instance, often boasts about his freedom and disregard for rules, but in reality, he's heavily influenced by external factors and can't help but obey them. Conversely, someone like the speaker may come across as strict or uptight, but they may have valid reasons for their behavior and genuinely care for those around them. The conversation also touched upon the importance of communication and understanding in relationships. It's crucial to have open and honest discussions with loved ones, and to be aware of potential challenges before making big decisions. The speakers' experiences at the airport were used as an example of how stress and external pressures can affect people differently. Overall, the conversation highlighted the importance of being true to oneself and others, and the value of effective communication.

    • Effective communication and consideration in uncomfortable situationsClear communication and consideration for others can prevent frustration and improve uncomfortable situations. In the case of frequent bathroom visits on a plane, finding a clearer way to communicate or being more considerate could have made a difference. Similarly, managing children's expectations with a set budget can prevent unnecessary frustration.

Effective communication and consideration for others can make a significant difference in uncomfortable situations. The speaker, who suffers from sinus issues, recounted an experience on a plane where a woman's frequent bathroom visits caused discomfort for those around her. The speaker attempted to communicate her concern to her partner, but the noise from the woman's constant visits made it difficult for them to hear each other. This led to frustration and even a peanut being thrown between them. The situation could have been improved if the speaker and her partner had found a clearer way to communicate, or if the woman had been more considerate of those around her. Another theme that emerged in the conversation was the challenge of managing children's expectations and desires. The speaker expressed frustration with her partner's tendency to give in to their children's requests for treats at the airport, fearing it would create unrealistic expectations. The speaker proposed a solution where she would give the children a set amount of money at the beginning of a trip to manage their own purchases. Overall, the conversation touched on themes of communication, consideration, and parenting, and the importance of finding effective strategies to navigate challenging situations.

    • Cherishing Moments, Embracing Individuality, and Striving for ImprovementExpress love without favoritism, prioritize quality sleep, and utilize affordable tools for personal growth like Olive and June's manicure system.

Everyone has their unique strengths and weaknesses, just like how some people can remember intricate football game details from years ago but struggle with everyday tasks or remembering names. The importance of quality sleep was also emphasized, as it evidenced when one person shared their struggle with snoring and how it affected their partner's sleep. Another takeaway is the importance of expressing love and appreciation without favoritism, as it can lead to misunderstandings and hurt feelings. Lastly, the discussion highlighted the convenience and affordability of Olive and June's manicure system, making it an excellent option for achieving salon-quality nails at home. Overall, the conversation touched on various topics, but the underlying theme was the importance of cherishing the present moments, embracing individuality, and striving for improvement.

    • Individualizing comfort leads to better sleep and embracing achievementsCustomize your sleep environment for optimal comfort and share your personal achievements, even if it's difficult, to inspire others to pursue their dreams.

Individualizing your comfort can lead to better sleep, as demonstrated by Sleep Number's highly-rated smart beds. Meanwhile, it's important for individuals to embrace their achievements and share their stories, even if they feel shy or embarrassed. Model and podcast host, Jameela Jamil, shared her journey from wanting to be a singer, dancer, model, or actress as a child to her experiences on Britain's Next Top Model and Strictly Come Dancing. Despite her success, Jamil admitted to struggling with nerves and high standards, which held her back from performing at her best. She also spoke about the challenges of dealing with negative press and societal expectations, but ultimately encouraged listeners to pursue their dreams and aspirations.

    • Finding balance between passions and responsibilitiesIt's essential to pursue your dreams, no matter your age or circumstances, while also fulfilling your responsibilities. People's opinions should not deter you from doing what makes you happy.

People often face difficult decisions in life, where they must choose between pursuing their dreams and pleasing others. Avi, in the conversation, shared her experience of being stuck between wanting to sing and being content with her current life. She had an incredible voice but felt she was too old and had too many responsibilities to pursue a singing career. However, she also recognized that she had wasted her gift and regretted not pushing herself harder when she was younger. It's essential to find a balance between following your passions and fulfilling your responsibilities, but it's never too late to pursue your dreams, no matter your age or circumstances. Additionally, people's opinions should not deter you from doing what makes you happy. Avi's career in modeling was another passion she enjoyed, but she felt the toll of returning home after photo shoots, stripping off the glamour and makeup, leaving her feeling unrecognizable. However, she was proud of her accomplishments and encouraged everyone to pursue their passions, even if it means stepping out of their comfort zones.

    • Never too late to pursue dreams despite obstaclesAge and motherhood don't define worth or capabilities, keep pursuing dreams despite setbacks and insecurities.

No matter what obstacles or setbacks we face in life, it's never too late to pursue our dreams. The speaker shared her experience of starting as a model, facing rejection, and then full-circle moments where she worked with her past judges and even achieved her long-held dream of modeling for Victoria's Secret despite being a mother and an older woman. She emphasized that it's not just about how we look but how we feel and the importance of not giving up on ourselves. The pressure to compete with younger models was there, but she saw it as an opportunity to inspire other women who may have felt they had lost their chances. The journey was filled with insecurities, but ultimately, it was a huge achievement and a reminder that age and motherhood do not define our worth or capabilities.

    • Believing in yourself and staying true to who you are are keys to successHaving self-belief and thick skin are crucial for overcoming rejection in the entertainment industry. Authenticity and kindness are essential qualities for building a lasting career.

Believing in oneself and staying true to who you are are crucial elements for success in the entertainment industry, as well as in life. The speaker, who has experience in both modeling and football, emphasized the importance of having thick skin and self-belief, especially in the face of rejection. She also shared that a pivotal moment in her modeling career was when she was discovered by Katie Grand and given opportunities to work with high-end fashion brands. However, she acknowledged that she might not have been taken seriously without her connections. Overall, her advice for young girls aspiring to enter the industry is to be themselves and kind, as authenticity and kindness are qualities that can't be faked and are essential for building a lasting career.

    • From Britain's Next Top Model to Modeling Success and PodcastingEmbrace your unique journey, stay true to yourself, and make the most of opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Everyone's journey to success is unique. The speaker shares her unusual path to modeling fame after being discovered on Britain's Next Top Model and starting a relationship with the interviewer. She expresses pride in her accomplishments, including traveling the world and working with amazing people, but also regrets not pushing herself harder in the beginning due to others' disapproval. Looking ahead, she hopes to continue her work-life balance, focusing on her podcast and staying involved in football. The interviewer expresses his enjoyment of his current work and shares that he's content with his achievements, but also acknowledges the importance of evaluating one's career and potential regrets. Overall, their conversation emphasizes the importance of staying true to oneself and making the most of opportunities.

    • Retiring from Football: Gratitude and ChallengesRetirement from a successful career brings gratitude, regret, and the need to find a new purpose. In dating, value the process and be true to oneself.

Retirement from a successful football career can be a challenging transition for some players, leading to mental health issues and feelings of regret. Pete, a retired footballer, shared his experience of retiring on his own terms at 38 after a long and successful career. He expressed his gratitude for having the opportunity to play for so long and for being able to retire without injury. However, he also acknowledged the difficulties that come with retirement, such as the loss of recognition, the absence of the Saturday adrenaline rush, and the struggle to find a new purpose. Pete emphasized the importance of finding a balance and being happy in retirement. For those still in the dating world, Pete and his co-host offered some advice. They acknowledged the challenges of finding a compatible partner and the potential pitfalls of online dating. They encouraged taking the time to get to know someone and valuing the dating process, rather than focusing on the quantity of potential partners. They also emphasized the importance of being true to oneself and being open to new experiences. In summary, retirement from a successful career can bring about a mix of emotions, including gratitude, regret, and the struggle to find a new purpose. Dating in today's world can also present its own challenges, but the key is to value the process and be true to oneself.

    • The Changing Dynamics of Dating and RelationshipsDespite the convenience of technology, maintaining self-worth and a long-term perspective are crucial for meaningful connections. Small gestures and moments can also play a significant role in maintaining relationships.

The dynamics of dating and relationships have significantly changed over the years. Back in the day, the process of getting to know someone and going on dates was more of a thrilling experience, filled with anticipation and excitement. However, with the advent of dating apps and technology, the process has become more convenient and less romantic for some. The magic and mystery of courtship seem to have been replaced by a more casual and instant approach. However, not everyone agrees that this is a bad thing. Some believe that there is still room for organic and meaningful connections to be made, even through digital means. The key is to approach dating with a sense of self-worth and a long-term perspective. Moreover, some people find joy and excitement in the smallest gestures and moments in their relationships, even after many years of being together. These moments may seem trivial to some, but they can be significant in maintaining the bond between two people. Ultimately, the way we approach dating and relationships is a personal choice, and there is no one-size-fits-all answer. It's essential to find what works best for us and to appreciate the unique aspects of each relationship.

    • Rules for Getting Ready in RelationshipsEffective communication and respect for boundaries are essential in maintaining healthy relationships, even during awkward situations.

Communication and understanding are crucial in relationships, even when dealing with awkward situations. The discussion between the speakers revolves around rules in their relationship regarding touching and viewing each other while one is getting ready. They have established certain boundaries, and while it may seem odd or awkward, they respect each other's wishes. In the second part of the conversation, a speaker shares an embarrassing story about passing gas during a family dinner and the importance of being mindful of others' comfort levels in social situations. Overall, the conversations highlight the importance of open communication, respect, and adapting to each other's needs in various aspects of life.

    • Dealing with embarrassing momentsOwn up to embarrassing moments, laugh it off, and don't let it define you. Everyone experiences uncomfortable situations, and it's how we respond that matters most.

Embarrassing moments, like passing gas in public, can be uncomfortable and difficult to deal with. However, it's important to remember that everyone experiences these types of situations and that owning up to them and finding humor in them can help in regaining confidence and moving on. The podcast hosts suggested that the best approach is to acknowledge the situation, laugh it off, and not let it define you. They also shared their own experiences and how they've learned to deal with similar situations in the past. It's important to remember that everyone makes mistakes and that it's how we respond to them that matters most. So, if you find yourself in a similar situation, try to own it, laugh it off, and move on. And if you're feeling really mortified, you can always seek professional help, like therapy.

    • Exploring doubts and uncertainties in long-term relationshipsCommunicate openly with your partner about doubts and uncertainties, remember every relationship is unique, and consider the potential risks and consequences before making drastic decisions.

Relationships and personal experiences can bring up feelings of doubt and uncertainty, even after many years of commitment. In the discussion, a woman expresses her concerns about her relationship, having been with her partner since they were teenagers. She wonders if she's missed out on other experiences and experiences feelings of inadequacy. This situation can cause anxiety and self-doubt, leading to questions about the future of the relationship. It's essential to communicate openly and honestly with your partner about these feelings, as they can provide comfort and reassurance. Additionally, it's important to remember that every relationship is unique, and there's no one-size-fits-all solution. The grass isn't always greener, and it's crucial to consider the potential risks and consequences before making any drastic decisions. Ultimately, the best course of action is to have an open and honest conversation with your partner, seeking to understand each other's feelings and working together to strengthen your bond.

    • Discussing scheduled breaks from sexual activity and listening to your bodyDiscuss breaks with partner, listen to body, prioritize comfort, and maintain open dialogue about sexuality.

Having a scheduled break from sexual activity, as suggested by the speaker, is an uncommon practice and the decision to do so should be discussed openly with your partner. The speaker also mentioned the importance of listening to your body and only engaging in sexual activity when it feels right. Additionally, she shared her experience of wanting to dispel misconceptions about her through a podcast, and encouraged listeners to seek help for conditions like endometriosis. The conversation also touched upon the idea of having a conversation with your partner about sexual availability and the importance of being open and closed based on feelings. The speaker emphasized that it's essential to maintain a healthy and open dialogue about sexuality and to prioritize your own comfort and well-being.

#334 Jay Shetty on Relationships, Routines & Finding Purpose

Is love something that happens magically between two people – or is it something that needs to be nurtured? Does it come from within us, or is it something we’re given? My guest today is here to help us figure out these answers and more. Jay Shetty is a former monk who wanted to share his learnings with a wider audience. He’s now one of the world’s most influential, modern self-help gurus – with a social media following in the tens of millions. He’s also a bestselling author, host of the podcast On Purpose, and Chief Purpose Officer for the meditation app Calm.

I first welcomed Jay to the podcast in 2020 and he’s now back to share his wisdom on purpose and relationships to celebrate the launch of his new book, 8 Rules Of Love: How To Find It, Keep It, And Let It Go, and his world tour to support the book, which hits the UK in May.

We begin our conversation talking about the importance of purpose and how we can go about finding or refining our own. Jay also shares his morning routine which includes thankfulness, intention, meditation and exercise and explains how this helps him to live each day with more purpose. We then go on to talk about relationships and discuss the idea that solitude and self-knowledge are the foundations of love.

We talk about the fact that challenges in a relationship are more often issues within ourselves; how we often take our stresses out on those closest to us – and how we can stop doing this. Jay explains why difficulties arise when we communicate what we want from a partner, but not why we want it, the satisfaction that comes with mutual growth, the importance of finding a partner who shares your values and how the qualities you attract in others, will be the same ones you use to impress them.

Whether you’re someone who is looking for love, happily single, recently separated, in a new relationship, or you’ve been with someone for many years, you’ll find nuggets of wisdom throughout this deep and raw conversation. I hope you enjoy listening.

E678 Ask Nick - My Husband Loves Deer More Than Me

E678 Ask Nick - My Husband Loves Deer More Than Me

Welcome back to another episode of The Viall Files: Ask Nick Edition! We’re back to answer your burning questions about the world of dating and relationships. Before getting to our callers, we read an email from a listener who recently had a gender reveal/surprise wedding, only to have her husband party the night away and not come to bed with her. Then, we get to our callers.

Our first caller’s husband would rather spend time with deer than her. She’s only seen him twice in the last month, and is wondering whether their marriage is salvageable, or whether she should call it quits. Our second caller is wondering whether she should stop waiting for her long-distance situationship to ask her out, and just do it herself. She’s tried to get him to commit before, but he used distance as an excuse, so she’s unsure how to convince him to give them a shot despite the commute. Our final caller’s parents want her to break up with her boyfriend once she graduates college, but she’s not sure if she should. It’s the healthiest relationship she’s been in, but he’s not as driven as her, so she’s trying to decide what is more important in a relationship.

“The more confident you sound, the more he’ll be scared he can’t live without you.”
