    • Discussing Parenting Challenges During LockdownMany parents face similar struggles during lockdown, and sharing experiences can provide comfort and relief.

The current situation, particularly during lockdown, can be challenging for parents. Josh Widdicombe and Rob Beckett, in their podcast "LockDown Parenting Hell," discuss their own experiences and invite famous parents to share theirs. They aim to provide an outlet for parents to vent and feel less alone in their struggles. Rob, a father of two young children, shares how his routine has changed drastically with the closure of nurseries, and how he misses the small pleasures of dropping off his daughter at nursery and having a cup of tea at the nearby cafe. The podcast serves as a reminder that many parents are going through similar experiences and that sharing the struggles can make everyone feel better. The episode is brought to you by Shopify, a platform that helps businesses grow regardless of their size or stage. Bumble, an app known for dating, also makes an appearance with new features aimed at making compatibility, starting conversations, and ensuring safety during the dating process.

    • Navigating Lockdown ParentingDespite the challenges of lockdown parenting, finding community and support can help parents cope.

The current lockdown situation presents unique challenges for parents, particularly those with young children. While some may feel pressured to keep up with the perceived perfection of others, it's essential to remember that everyone is dealing with their own struggles. Pre-lockdown routines, such as dropping off children at school or having some personal time, have been disrupted, making it harder to balance work and parenting responsibilities. However, connecting with others and sharing experiences can provide comfort and a sense of community during these challenging times. The hosts of "Lockdown Parenting" aim to create a space where parents can share their stories, find support, and know they're not alone in their struggles.

    • The Reality of Lockdown Parenting vs Social MediaLockdown experiences vary greatly, and it's important to remember that social media may not reflect reality. Everyone's experience is unique, and it's okay to find moments of escape to cope with the chaos.

The lockdown experience can vary greatly from person to person, and it's important to remember that what may seem idyllic on social media may not reflect reality. Michael shared his struggle with the monotony and chaos of lockdown parenting, contrasting it with a popular Instagram post encouraging rest and creativity. Many people are feeling overwhelmed and finding it hard to keep up with the perceived productivity of others. Some are even resorting to hiding treats from their families to have moments of indulgence for themselves. These moments of escape, no matter how small, can provide a sense of calm and normalcy in the midst of the chaos. It's important to remember that everyone's experience of lockdown is unique, and there's no right or wrong way to navigate it.

    • Finding joy in small things and creating new traditionsCreativity and imagination can help bring happiness during challenging times, from experimenting with unusual combinations to creating new traditions

Creativity and imagination can help bring joy and excitement to everyday life, even during challenging times. The discussion touched upon various topics, including shower snacks, unusual combinations of food and beverages, and inventing new traditions for children. The speakers shared their personal experiences, from enjoying a can of lager in the shower before going out, to experimenting with whiskey and water as a mixer, to creating a "LEGO Day" for their children. These anecdotes illustrate how finding pleasure in the small things and creating new traditions can bring a sense of normalcy and happiness, even during lockdowns or other difficult circumstances. It's important to remember that everyone is going through unique experiences, and finding ways to cope and create joy can help us all get through these challenging times.

    • Parenting during a lockdown: Unique challenges for every familyParents face various challenges in their unique family situations during a lockdown, from managing young children's constant needs to balancing independence and social distancing for teenagers.

Parenting during a lockdown brings unique challenges for every family. Catherine and Rob shared their experiences of having young children at home, constantly requiring attention and causing physical and emotional stress. On the other hand, Katharine, a mother of a teenager, is dealing with her child's desire for independence and lack of need for parental involvement. The pandemic has also brought about unexpected issues, such as the difficulty of letting teenagers socialize while maintaining social distancing. Overall, parenting during a lockdown is a complex experience, filled with both challenges and opportunities for growth. Regardless of the age of their children, parents are adapting and finding creative ways to navigate this new reality.

    • Parents struggle to set boundaries for older children's TikTok useParents need to balance their children's TikTok use with offline activities for healthy development.

Parents grapple with setting boundaries for their older children's screen time, especially with popular platforms like TikTok. While some parents advocate for strict rules, others believe in allowing their children more freedom, leading to a complex and ongoing debate. TikTok, previously known as Musically, has been around for about two years and has gained significant popularity, particularly among younger generations. It's a platform where users create and share short videos, and some TikTok personalities have even gained celebrity status among their fans. Parents may feel pressured to engage with the app to bond with their children, but they should be aware of the potential risks and consequences. Ultimately, finding a balance between screen time and offline activities is crucial for children's overall development.

    • Navigating the influence of TikTok and mango addiction in parenthoodAdapting to new trends and finding creative solutions are key to overcoming parenting challenges, whether it's TikTok influence or a child's mango addiction.

As parents, we all experience different struggles at different stages of parenthood. The speaker in this conversation is currently dealing with the influence of TikTok and the desire of her daughter to meet TikTok creators, which she finds herself being oblivious to and having to adapt to. This is a stage where parents feel young but also out of touch with the latest trends. The speaker also shared her experience with her daughter's mango addiction and the challenges it brings. Another parenting tip shared was the use of a mango pit on a skewer as a mango lollipop to keep the child occupied with mango for a longer time. However, it's important to be cautious with this to avoid any potential choking hazards. Overall, the conversation highlights the unique challenges that come with each stage of parenthood and the importance of adapting and finding creative solutions to meet the needs of our children.

    • Creative uses for cardboard during lockdownEmbrace childhood experiences, find joy in simple things, and balance responsibilities with self-care

Getting creative with limited resources and embracing childhood experiences, even those with potential risks, can lead to fun and memorable moments. The speakers shared their creative uses for cardboard during lockdown, from makeshift slides to tube slides. They also reflected on their own childhood experiences and how they would spend their days if left alone during lockdown. Despite the challenges of parenting and entertaining children, they emphasized the importance of finding time for personal interests and indulging in "trash TV" without judgment. The speakers acknowledged the importance of balancing responsibilities with self-care and reminisced about the freedom and excitement of their own childhoods.

How Josh LaJaunie Lost 200+ Pounds & Reinvented Himself: Thoughts On Mindset, Habits & Giving Back

How Josh LaJaunie Lost 200+ Pounds & Reinvented Himself: Thoughts On Mindset, Habits & Giving Back
I have never met a more inspirational everyman example of healthy, transformative living than Josh LaJaunie. After 400+ episodes of the podcast, our initial conversation way back in December of 2013 (RRP 63) remains one of my favorite and most popular episodes in the history of the show, followed closely by our second conversation in June 2015 (RRP 152). There's a reason for that. Sure, Josh lost 200+ pounds. He overcame tremendous obstacles to restore and maintain his health. He reinvented himself as athlete, crushing marathons, winning an ultra and even gracing the cover of Runner's World magazine. You might have seen Josh on The Today Show. Perhaps you caught him on Good Morning America. Certainly, Josh's personal triumphs are worthy of celebrating. But I'm emphatic it's his giant heart that captured the the media's eye. 100% genuine and utterly authentic, it's Josh's love and devotion to returning the gift in service of his friends, family, community and strangers that sets him apart — and makes me prouder than you can imagine to call him friend. Good things happen to good people who do good for others. For those new to the show, Josh's story — as laid out in his self-described manifesto — begins in marshy southern Louisiana. A self-avowed “swamp dweller” from Bayou Lafourche, he was a big kid surrounded by an even bigger loving family, united by their shared adoration of food. Despite being recruited to play college football, college life left him so disillusioned, he dropped out, returning home aimless and unmoored. He found work in the family construction business, but like so many, started living for the weekend: partying, hunting, fishing, cheering for his beloved New Orleans Saints, and feasting on his favorite local delicacies — po boys, jambalaya & barbecue. Lots of barbecue. It's just what you do down in Bayou Lafourche. It wasn't long before Josh tipped 400+ on the scale. Outwardly he seemed fine with it. But deep down he was dying — his despair, embarrassment and shame escalating in lockstep with his declining self-esteem and overall well being. Then something happened. In 2010, Josh's beloved Saints achieved the impossible, winning the Super Bowl. It seems a small thing. But to Josh it was everything. Forever altering his perception of what is possible, he began to question the limits he imposed upon himself. Empowered, he began to “let go of his normal” and dismiss the embedded “that's just the way it is down here” mentality he was starting to understand often taints the logic of his region. A chain reaction of events ensued that set Josh on a path that literally changed everything. He adopted a 100% plant-based diet. He resumed a long, slow return to fitness. He committed to a top-to-bottom mindset shift. It wasn't overnight, but today he has multiple marathons under his belt. An ultramarathon victory. And a plan to scale the principles that saved his life to save others via his Missing Chins secret Facebook group and newly-hatched WellStart wellness start-up. The best part? It's just the beginning. Picking up where we last left off, this is Josh's story. Enjoy! Rich
