    Podcast Summary

    • Parenting Challenges and Celebrity EncountersFamous parents face the same parenting struggles as everyone else, and unexpected events can make for unpredictable experiences.

No matter who you are or what stage of life you're at, everyone, including famous parents, faces challenges and makes mistakes in their parenting journey. Izzy Judd, wife of McFly's Harry Judd, shared a recording of her young child saying Rob Beckett and Josh Widdecombe's names, leading to some confusion and a brief discussion on nepotism. Despite the occasional celebrity encounter, the hosts focused on their own experiences, with Rob sharing that his daughter Lou had been ill but was now recovering at home. Josh, on the other hand, had a rough week and they both agreed that parenting can be tricky and unpredictable. The episode was sponsored by Shopify, which offers support and resources for businesses at all stages of growth.

    • Adapting and Persevering During Challenging TimesSpeakers shared experiences of managing unexpected events, pushing through challenges, and finding creative solutions to adjust and recover.

Even during challenging times, it's important to find ways to adjust and persevere. In the discussion, the speakers shared their experiences of dealing with unexpected events, such as illness and loss of childcare, and how they managed to get through their difficult weeks. The first speaker mentioned that despite having a tough time during Christmas, it felt normal, and they were able to recover when their partner returned home. However, the speaker then faced another challenge when they had to perform at the Royal Albert Hall despite feeling overwhelmed and tired. They learned to push through and trust that they had enough energy in the moment. The second speaker also faced unexpected challenges, including their child's sleep patterns and their mother's illness. They found a way to adjust by using the clock change to their advantage and focusing on the positive aspects of their situation. Overall, the speakers demonstrated resilience and creativity in dealing with their challenges and finding ways to move forward.

    • Managing Multiple Responsibilities During Uncertain TimesPrioritize self-care, have contingency plans, and consider insurance to mitigate potential risks during uncertain times with multiple responsibilities.

Managing multiple responsibilities, especially during uncertain times, can lead to significant stress and potential financial losses. The speaker in this conversation had a dentist appointment where she got sick, causing her to miss important meetings and childcare arrangements. Additionally, she was producing a show and had invested her own money into filming it. When her collaborator tested positive for COVID-19, she faced the possibility of canceling the show and losing the investment. This stressful week also included her trying to lose weight, adding to her mental and emotional burden. It's essential to prioritize self-care, have contingency plans, and consider insurance to mitigate potential risks.

    • Balancing Family, Work, and HealthRecognizing and addressing personal health concerns promptly is crucial, even when family and work demands seem overwhelming. Seek support and understanding from loved ones during challenging times.

Taking care of family and work responsibilities while dealing with personal health issues can be a challenging and overwhelming experience. Rob's story illustrates the struggle of balancing the needs of his family with his own health, leading to a vicious cycle of illness and stress. Despite feeling unwell, he still prioritized his family's needs, which ultimately led to his worsening condition. This experience highlights the importance of recognizing and addressing personal health concerns promptly, even when other responsibilities demand attention. It also underscores the need for support and understanding from loved ones during challenging times.

    • A challenging night for Rose: performing sickWhen sick, prioritize rest and rehydration for a quick recovery. Unpredictable illnesses require listening to your body and taking care of yourself.

Being ill can be a challenging and debilitating experience. Rose, who was feeling unwell, thought she had a severe case of norovirus, but it turned out to be something else. She was supposed to perform on Thursday but had to cancel due to her weak condition. Her daughter, who was also ill, added to the stress as she had to take care of her. Thursday night was particularly difficult as Rose couldn't eat or drink much and had to deal with kidney pain, which she believed was due to dehydration. She spent the night on a camp bed in her bedroom, unable to sleep due to the pain. The following day, she had to perform at an iconic venue despite feeling her worst. It's important to prioritize rest and rehydration when sick to ensure a quick recovery. Illness can be unpredictable, and it's crucial to listen to your body and take care of yourself.

    • Finding moments of enjoyment during stressful timesEngaging in activities that provide a welcome distraction from stressors can boost mood and energy levels.

Engaging in activities or experiences that take your mind off stressors, even if they seem trivial, can be beneficial. The speaker shared an experience of feeling weak and stressed during a demanding week, but going swimming with his daughter ended up being the best thing he did because it provided a welcome distraction. He also mentioned that during stressful situations, family obligations or hobbies can offer an escape from the stress instead of adding to it. The speaker also shared how a good meal and a drink after a successful event could help recharge and celebrate. Overall, the conversation emphasized the importance of finding moments of enjoyment and relaxation amidst challenging circumstances.

    • Validating children's feelings during challenging situationsAcknowledging and validating children's emotions during tough times can help them cope better. Expressing your own feelings can also provide comfort and calm them down.

Acknowledging and validating children's feelings during challenging situations can help them cope better. The speaker shared an experience of her daughters being anxious about their mother's hospitalization. Initially, they were kept away from her, but seeing her in the hospital eased their anxiety. The speaker also engaged with their feelings by expressing her own missing their mother, which helped calm them down. The conversation then shifted to lighter topics, including the speaker's own experience with a "new mole" that turned out to be an old one. The discussion ended with the speaker's daughter's unusual preference for lying horizontally in the pram and the girls' reaction to their mother's return from the hospital. Overall, the conversation emphasized the importance of addressing children's emotions during difficult times and the power of validation in helping them cope.

    • Navigating unique parenting challengesBeing aware and adaptable helps parents handle challenging situations with grace and confidence, whether it's a child's seating preference or a growing foot size.

Parents sometimes face unique challenges that make everyday activities seem more complicated than they need to be. For instance, some children may prefer to sit in unconventional ways while being pushed in a pram, which can draw unwanted attention and make navigating tight spaces difficult. Additionally, pregnancy can lead to noticeable changes in a woman's body, such as foot size, due to the weight gain and muscle stretching. This can be frustrating, especially for those who have a strong attachment to their pre-pregnancy possessions, like shoes. Despite these challenges, it's essential to remember that being aware and adaptable is key to handling these situations with grace and confidence. So, whether it's a child's quirky seating preference or a growing foot size, parents can find creative solutions and even turn these experiences into opportunities for connection with others.

    • Hormonal changes during pregnancy affect ligaments, not bones, causing wider hips and potentially injuriesPregnancy hormones relax ligaments, not bones, leading to wider hips and potential injuries. This misconception was confused with bones spreading out, causing feet to appear bigger.

During pregnancy, a hormone called relaxin is produced which relaxes the ligaments in the pelvis, softens and widens the cervix, and makes joints more flexible. This is why women experience wider hips and potentially injuries. However, Lou seemed to be confused and thought it was the bones that spread out, making feet bigger. In reality, the feet only appear to get bigger due to the ligaments being stretched out, like dough. It's important to note that relaxin is not a hormone that relaxes bones, but rather ligaments. Additionally, there seems to be a debate about the amount of dough or toppings in a Romana pizza compared to a classic pizza, leading to a proposed live experiment to weigh and count the toppings for transparency.

    • Using Podcasts for Sleep: Be Mindful of Content and Children's PresenceChoose calming podcasts for sleep, set a timer, and consider children's presence to avoid unexpected situations.

Podcasts can be a helpful tool for falling asleep, but it's important to use them wisely. Setting a sleep timer and choosing calming or non-disturbing content can be beneficial. However, listening to something too engaging or inappropriate for children can lead to unexpected and potentially alarming situations. A listener shared an experience of her young child being exposed to a true crime podcast, which resulted in a scary situation. Therefore, it's crucial to be mindful of what is being played and in which room, especially when children are present. Additionally, a small business shout-out segment featured a listener who runs a business called Gray Fox Designs. She creates aesthetically pleasing covers for IKEA high chairs and also sells bibs and cutlery for weaning. Another listener requested a shout-out for her husband's plastering business, Always Plastered, located in County Durham, Newcastle, and surrounding areas.

Episode 104: The Power of Connection & Community

Episode 104: The Power of Connection & Community

Think back to the people who impacted you most?  Lisa started out summarizing a Mel Robbins podcast episode where Mel shared this recent study about who is having the most influence on your life, depending on your age and what decade of life you are in.  Mel said that after age 18, the influence parents have on their children decreases significantly. She noted that from age 26-46, we are most influenced by our co-workers and work community.  If you are interested in listening to her podcast, you can check it out here: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-mel-robbins-podcast/id1646101002?i=1000644164038

These research findings prompted us to talk about the people that have influenced us most, and the importance of making sure you are surrounding yourself with the people that will make you better, and not buy into the lie that you are stuck in that job or relationship.  We can make all the excuses we want, but the truth of the matter is, we DO have a choice!

Sara shared a book she recently finished called The Five-Star Weekend by Elin Hinderbrand.  In the book, the main character shares a weekend with friends from each season of her life: a friend from her elementary and highschool years, a friend from her college years, a friend from the baby raising years, and then a friend from now when kids are all grown……the dynamics and potential conflict that would arise when all these people go away for the weekend.

Connections and communities can change and evolve, and we may even “outgrow” some of those relationships, and that is ok.  That is not a bad thing.  You get to choose.

We want to encourage you to take a “community audit” and evaluate if your community is the best fit for you!   Be sure to reach out to us and tell us how this episode helped you!  Give us a “shout out” on your social media platforms!  Thank you!  Drop us a message, LIKE, SHARE, and leave us a review!  Follow us on Instagram @wakeupanddreampodcast.  You can also connect with each of us here:

Episode 61: Release and Surrender, Part 2

Episode 61: Release and Surrender, Part 2

Today we took a look at emotions as it relates to release and surrender.  Oftentimes we have been taught or believe that certain emotions are good and others bad.  We tend to judge our emotions.  But what if we instead saw our emotions (all of them) as a gift, a way for us to release and surrender the things we are holding onto.

We see this release beautifully in nature, through rain.  These “tears from heaven” serve a purpose, as the clouds get too heavy and need to release the moisture.  It is necessary for growth and vital to the life cycle.  The same is true of releasing the emotions that are pent up inside. In this episode we encouraged our listeners to “release” your feelings by journaling.  Getting the thoughts and feelings out of your head and onto paper is a powerful exercise in awareness and can help you to process and even shift your perspectives and understanding of your emotions.

We referenced “How are you, Really?” by Jenna Kutcher as a great resource to help you process your emotions.  Here is the link to grab your copy: https://amzn.to/44fWnv0

As you journal, here are 2 important questions to ask yourself:

    1. What am I holding onto and is it mine to hold, or does it really belong to someone else?

    2. Is what I am choosing to hold onto serving me?  Why or why not?

Episode 90: Start your Day with Gratitude!

Episode 90: Start your Day with Gratitude!

So much magic happens when you establish a “morning routine.”  In our last episode, we shared how “nothing changes if nothing changes,” and this is true.  You can create something new in your life by finding a little time in the morning for YOU!

In this episode, Kelly shared how starting a morning routine of  gratitude helped her in the middle of her battle with depression because of her unexplained secondary infertility.  During that time, she found Rachel Hollis’ journal on gratitude, and began to wake each day with gratitude for the little things that went well the day before.  This helped to change her entire mindset for the day because with practice, she began to go about her day LOOKING for things to be grateful for!  And then she recalled them again when she wrote them down the next morning!

Morning routines can be hard to establish, but starting your day with intentional gratitude will be the best gift you can give yourself and your family!  Do this for YOU and just watch what happens!

Do you practice gratitude in your morning routine?  We want to hear from you!  Help us spread the word so we can inspire more women to “wake up and dream.”  Give us a “shout out” on your social media platforms!  Thank you!  Drop us a message, LIKE, SHARE, and leave us a review!  Follow us on Instagram @wakeupanddreampodcast
