    Podcast Summary

    • Discussing Parenting Challenges with Famous Parents and ListenersThe Parents in Hell podcast, hosted by Rob Beckett and Josh Willingham, explores the ups and downs of modern-day parenting through conversations with famous parents and listeners, reaching a large following in the UK but only a small percentage in the USA.

The Parents in Hell podcast, hosted by Rob Beckett and Josh Willingham, discusses the challenges of modern-day parenting with famous parents and listeners. The show is brought to you by Shopify, which helps businesses grow regardless of their size. The podcast has a significant following in the United Kingdom (88.25%) but only a small percentage of listeners are from the USA (1.6%). The hosts jokingly lamented about their lack of international listeners, with Belgium, Italy, and the UAE having less than 1% each. They pondered the idea of marketing in Dubai but ultimately decided against it due to the small number of listeners. The smallest percentage of listeners came from Hawaii, with only 231 downloads, meaning that theoretically, one person could have listened to all episodes multiple times. Overall, the podcast's focus is on sharing the trials and tribulations of parenting and providing advice and support to each other and their listeners.

    • Personal stories and shared experiencesThe speakers discussed various topics including podcast listening habits, reaching every listener, and childhood experiences, sharing personal stories that resonated with each other and their audience.

The speakers shared personal stories, some humorous and some not, during a conversation about various topics including podcast listening habits, trying to reach every listener in the United States, and reminiscing about childhood experiences. Michael mentioned a listener from Wyoming and encouraged him to reach out. They also discussed the idea of creating a podcast about every county in the US, but debated whether it was necessary to focus on America or their British roots. The conversation then shifted to sharing boomer parenting stories. One speaker shared an experience of his father destroying his prized holographic key ring, while another recalled being left in the car for hours during a family dinner event. These stories sparked a discussion about the fairness and appropriateness of the parents' actions. Overall, the conversation was a light-hearted exploration of various topics, with the speakers finding common ground through their shared experiences.

    • Parents should communicate with schools about children's screen timeParents need to inquire about their kids' screen time at school and maintain open communication with them about media consumption to promote healthy habits and limit negative influences.

Parents need to communicate effectively with their children's schools regarding screen time and monitor their children's media consumption. The speaker shared her concern about her young children watching TV at nursery despite her belief that they only watched it during her Fridays with them. She suggested approaching the nursery to inquire about the amount and timing of TV watching to ensure a balanced weekly screen time. The speaker also acknowledged that kids can sometimes lie, and emphasized the importance of maintaining open communication with them. The conversation also touched upon the parents' own use of technology in front of their children and the potential impact on them. Overall, the conversation highlighted the importance of parents staying informed and engaged in their children's media consumption to promote healthy habits and limit potential negative influences.

    • Experiencing parenthood at a younger ageHaving children at a younger age can lead to personal growth, resilience, and a more relaxed parenting style. However, it also comes with challenges and requires maturity and adaptability.

Having children at a younger age can lead to unique experiences and personal growth. The speaker shared that they had children with different partners over a decade-long timespan, and while some might focus on the age gap, the speaker found it to be amicable and beneficial. They noted that being younger meant they were more in the moment and resilient, and it forced them to grow up faster. Additionally, they found that as they had more children, they became more relaxed and instinctive in their parenting. However, they acknowledged that there were challenges and that ignorance might not always be bliss. Overall, the speaker emphasized that having children at a younger age brought its own set of advantages and lessons.

    • A man finds joy in teaching maths to his 16-year-old during lockdownA man without a GCSE in maths found fulfillment in teaching it to his son and valued his family relationships and routine

Despite not having completed his GCSEs in maths, a man found joy and purpose in teaching the subject to his 16-year-old during lockdown. He even considered redoing his GCSEs but decided to trust in his abilities instead. The man, who is also a touring comic, shared that he maintains a close relationship with his children, seeing them regularly and even sneaking in to watch them sleep. He finds comfort in the routine of taking his youngest to school and appreciates the ease of their living arrangement. The man also shared that he sometimes struggles to keep a straight face when dealing with serious matters, a trait that carries over from his comedy performances at home. He has only taken all of his children away on vacation a few times, and the experience was expensive but worthwhile for him and his partner, who approaches their family finances differently.

    • Multitasking and adaptability in parentingParenting requires constant attention and multitasking, especially during the early stages. Adaptability is key, such as breastfeeding until a child is old or juggling holiday schedules.

Being a parent involves a lot of multitasking and adaptability, especially during the early stages when children require constant attention. The speaker shared an experience of rushing through an airport while breastfeeding and caring for a young child, which was reminiscent of the chaos in the movie "Home Alone." The speaker was very hands-on with parenting, even breastfeeding their child until she was quite old. They also discussed the challenges of being a vegan parent and the importance of letting children make their own food choices. The holiday season, specifically Christmas, can be a difficult time to split parenting duties, but the speaker shared how they made it work by allowing older children to do their own thing while spending time with the younger ones at their grandparents' house. The speaker also reflected on the challenges of starting a career in stand-up comedy while raising young children, which required long hours and travel, but they eventually adapted and persevered.

    • Adapting to children's changing needsParenting is a continuous journey, adapt and find new ways to connect as children grow up.

As children grow up, they experience different eras and stages of life, and parents must adapt to these changes. A weekend getaway or a simple activity can help maintain a relationship when it's not at its best. Technology plays a significant role in the lives of children, and parents must find a balance between traditional activities and modern tools. Parents may feel a sense of loss when their children reach adulthood, and finding shared interests becomes essential. Older kids may enjoy activities like going to the gym or having a meal out, while younger children may still enjoy simple toys and trips to the toy shop. As children age, parents must continue to adapt and find new ways to connect with them. For parents who gave up alcohol before having children, the experience of a hangover with a child can be particularly challenging, and it may be better to limit alcohol consumption. Overall, the key takeaway is that parenting is a continuous journey, and parents must be willing to adapt and find new ways to connect with their children as they grow up.

    • Learning new skills and the importance of patience in parentingEffective communication, patience, and adaptability are crucial for teaching new skills to children and managing everyday tasks. Seek out resources and be open to learning from others to overcome challenges.

Effective communication and patience are key when it comes to parenting and everyday tasks. The speaker shares an experience of teaching her daughter Ren to swim and the frustration she faced when trying to get someone else to plait her daughter's hair. She admits to relying on YouTube videos for instruction and feeling resentful when she couldn't find help in her local community. This situation highlights the importance of being able to teach and learn new skills, as well as the value of perseverance and adaptability. Additionally, the speaker's reluctance to let go of past grudges, no matter how small, serves as a reminder of the impact our words and actions can have on others. Overall, the discussion emphasizes the importance of taking initiative, staying calm under pressure, and seeking out resources when needed to navigate the challenges of parenting and life in general.

    • Effective communication and time management for a smooth morning routineBeing aware of each other's schedules and keeping open communication can help prevent potential conflicts and inconveniences during the morning routine.

Effective time management and communication are crucial for ensuring a smooth morning routine and avoiding potential conflicts or inconveniences. In the discussion, Julius and Paul highlighted the importance of being aware of each other's schedules and making adjustments as needed. For instance, Julius expressed frustration that his partner often arrives late to drop off their child at nursery, despite having ample time to do so. Paul, on the other hand, shared his experience of having to take his child out of school early to go on vacation, which led to some complications with the school and potential fines. By being more mindful of time and keeping each other informed, they could have potentially avoided these issues. Additionally, Julius promoted his podcast, TVI (Two Vegan Idiots), and encouraged listeners to check out his stand-up comedy.

2597 Don't Fall Asleep On Life

2597 Don't Fall Asleep On Life

When you live, you should feel alive. But many of our children are going through the motions with no emotions. Don't fall asleep on life. This is your time to shine!

It's time for us as parents to wake up and see our children. They are longing for our attention. And never should they have to fight to be seen by their parents.

Desire to be supported and encouraged by other like-minded women? Join us at Women of IMPACThttp://bit.ly/WomenofIMPACT

But I'm gonna keep it real. So many parents don't even know what their children on doing on a daily basis. They look forward to school starting and then holding their breath until vacation is over just to send their child back to school

Now, I get it that you may not be exactly like this. But we all have had thoughts of, "If I only had myself to take care of."

A lot of us can come to the quick reality and snap into deep focus. However, if parents act like their students drive, there are problems all around.

Every day I experience the drop-off line which includes parents taking their student or a student driving. The crazy thing is that the students don't pay attention to their driving, and the parents are too caught up in what they are thinking or doing, including being on their phone; yes in the car.

Basically, it's chaos at its best!!

One thing I've learned with teaching thousands of children and raising five of my own, plus a grandchild and son-in-love, it's not about what you don't see, but about what you do with who you see.

The K.I.S.S. ~ See your child for who he/she is!

Little do we understand, but the attention from a parent for a child is golden. There is nothing like it.

Yet, you and I can get so bogged down with what's going on in life that honestly doesn't directly affect them. Still, though we let them in on all the secrets before the secrets need to be revealed.

Children need to be able to lead a child-like life with support, love, forgiveness, grace, and discipline. However, are you giving that gift to your child?

Don't fall asleep on life. See your child for who he/she is.

    1. REcognize your child's everyday talents. This is a natural pick-me-up when everything around them could be falling apart.
    2. REstore your child's hope in everyday life. Help them see what they can't see. That means you might have to dream a little dream for them.
    3. REvive your child's heartbeat to thrive. They have to believe as much as you do. There is an energy a child possesses that is so child-like that it's contagious. Be aware of when your child feels out of place or is quieter (or louder) than normal. This could be a flatline. So encourage beyond the grades, and engage beyond the phone.

Help your child enjoy life. Is it going to be easy? No way!

But it's so worth everything. What you do today is your living legacy. Don't fall asleep on life.

Plant your roots and soars on wings.

"Be present. Be incredible. Be YOU!!!"

    The Parents Podcast

    The Parents Podcast
The Parents Podcast is a free resource from a church in Houston, Texas called Champion Forest. The show is hosted by the leaders of our Kids and Student Ministries, Stephanie Chase and Justin Holcomb, who have years of experience dealing with children and parents, and helping families thrive.
In today's world, it can be especially difficult to navigate the often-turbulent cultural waters and raise children who love the Lord and hold fast to truth. That's why we have created this podcast - to come alongside fellow parents and offer support, encouragement, and practical advice on how to raise our kids well. Thanks for tuning in, and we look forward to sharing this journey with you.
