    • Navigating Personal Challenges in PodcastingDespite personal issues and misunderstandings, the hosts remained committed to their podcast and promised to deliver entertaining and relatable content, emphasizing the importance of perseverance, adaptability, and connection in overcoming challenges.

The podcast hosts, Josh and Rob, had a challenging start to their latest recording session due to various personal issues and misunderstandings. Rob was frustrated with Oscar's lack of preparation for their recording, while Josh was dealing with his son's tantrums and his own exhaustion from a busy holiday. The hosts joked about their experiences, including Josh's trip to Italy with his family, and discussed their plans for future episodes, including Josh's third take on Disney and Rob's daughter's birthday. Despite the initial hiccups, they remained positive and committed to their podcast, promising to provide their audience with entertaining and relatable content. They ended the conversation by expressing their appreciation for their listeners and their ability to make them laugh, even during stressful times. Overall, the conversation highlighted the importance of perseverance and adaptability in the face of challenges, as well as the value of humor and connection in maintaining a strong bond with loved ones and audiences.

    • Effective communication prevents misunderstandingsClear communication with family members and awareness of cultural differences can prevent misunderstandings and reduce stress during unexpected situations, such as leaving children with in-laws or traveling.

Communication is key in handling unexpected situations, especially when dealing with children and in-laws. The conversation reveals a series of misunderstandings and mishaps that could have been avoided with clearer communication. For instance, the speaker left his son in a room with his in-laws and returned to find his son upset and angry. This situation could have been prevented if the speaker had communicated with his wife about his plans before leaving. Furthermore, the speaker's experience with kimchi highlights the importance of being aware of cultural differences. He mistakenly consumed a large amount of kimchi, which caused him discomfort, and he could have avoided this by asking for clarification about the appropriate serving size. Additionally, the conversation touches on the challenges of traveling and juggling work and family responsibilities. The speaker's exhaustion and forgetfulness led to him accidentally drinking from a cup that belonged to his partner, causing a misunderstanding and leading to unnecessary stress. In conclusion, effective communication, cultural awareness, and mindfulness can help prevent misunderstandings and reduce stress in various situations, whether they involve children, in-laws, or travel.

    • A harrowing taxi ride home from the airportDespite unpredictable travel experiences, maintaining a sense of humor and adaptability can help make the journey more bearable

Travel can be stressful and unpredictable, from long flights with delayed departures to taxis with erratic drivers. Josh shared his experience of a particularly harrowing taxi ride home from the airport, where the driver's inconsistent speed made him feel sick. This added to the stress of a delayed flight and a long journey back from a holiday. The experience was made worse by being seated in Club Europe while the family they were traveling with were in standard class, with only a curtain separating them. Despite these challenges, Josh managed to find humor in the situation and shared his experiences on a podcast. Travel, especially with young children, can be unpredictable, but maintaining a sense of humor and adaptability can help make the journey more bearable.

    • Travel experiences: unpredictable and excitingTravel can bring unexpected challenges, but also memorable encounters and adventures. Stay adaptable and maintain a sense of humor.

Travel experiences can be unpredictable and chaotic, from unexpected delays and illnesses to the discovery of hidden gems and memorable encounters. The speaker shared a story about a stressful airport experience, where a late arrival caused panic among passengers, but they all made it onto their flight. He also recalled an unpleasant incident involving moldy water and a cup that caused him sickness at the beginning of his holiday. Despite these challenges, the speaker expressed his excitement about future travels, particularly a potential trip to Disney Parks with his family, despite the sensory overload he anticipates. He also reflected on the unpredictability of his friend Lou, who could keep her living space impeccably clean or let it become messy without warning. Overall, the speaker's experiences highlight the unpredictability and excitement of travel, as well as the importance of adaptability and a sense of humor in navigating unexpected challenges.

    • People's experiences with activities can change over timePeople's attitudes towards activities can shift as they gain new perspectives and confront their fears. Respect individual preferences and allow people to make their own choices.

People's preferences and experiences with activities can change over time based on various factors, including fear, control, and personal enjoyment. The conversation between Rob and Josh reveals how their experiences with roller coasters have differed. While Josh was initially forced to ride roller coasters due to peer pressure and lack of control, he later came to enjoy them after overcoming his anxiety. On the other hand, Rob never enjoyed roller coasters due to anxiety and the lack of control they offered. Their experiences highlight how people's attitudes towards activities can shift as they gain new perspectives and confront their fears. Additionally, the conversation underscores the importance of respecting individual preferences and allowing people to make their own choices, even if they differ from our own.

    • Overcoming Fear on Roller CoastersThough initially fearful and disliking long wait times, the speaker learned to enjoy roller coasters and valued the short-lived fear over hours of waiting. Her children's enjoyment and her own growth made the experience worthwhile.

Despite having a fear of roller coasters and hating the long wait times, the speaker pushed herself to face her fear and eventually enjoyed the experience. She realized that she'd rather experience the fear for a short period of time than spend hours waiting in line. The speaker also acknowledged that her children's excitement and enjoyment of roller coasters made the experience more worthwhile for her, even if she didn't initially share their enthusiasm. Additionally, she found that her fear lessened over time as she continued to challenge herself and face her fears on the rides. Overall, the speaker's experience highlights the importance of stepping outside of one's comfort zone and embracing new experiences, even if they initially seem daunting.

    • Learning the importance of planning and flexibility when traveling with young childrenConsider every detail, especially footwear and height requirements, when traveling with young children. Be prepared, adaptable, and open to new experiences.

Proper planning and flexibility are essential when traveling with young children. The family learned this lesson firsthand during their trip to Universal Studios, where they discovered that their youngest daughter was too short for many rides due to her flip flops. To solve the problem, they had to buy Crocs and multiple pairs of socks to make her tall enough. This experience highlighted the importance of considering every detail, especially when it comes to footwear and height requirements for rides. The family also realized that each child's preferences and experiences may differ significantly, as some may enjoy theme parks more than others. Despite the challenges, they appreciated the unique adventure and the opportunity to create lasting memories. Ultimately, the experience reinforced the importance of being prepared, adaptable, and open to new experiences when traveling with young children.

    • Taking a break from constant connection leads to personal growthTaking time for oneself, even if it means stepping out of comfort zone, leads to personal growth and rejuvenation. Communication and understanding are crucial for maintaining healthy relationships.

Taking a break from constant connection and immersing oneself in new experiences, even if it means stepping out of one's comfort zone, can lead to personal growth and rejuvenation. During a week-long vacation, a man shared that he barely spoke to his daughter more than twice a day, allowing himself to fully engage in the present moment. He was surrounded by incredible cooks who prepared meals from local produce, but his preference was for simple pizza and wine. He appreciated the opportunity to take time for himself, even if it meant being away from his family. This experience made him realize the importance of taking personal time, and he recognized that it could be perceived as selfish by others. Despite the challenges and differences, open communication and mutual understanding are essential for maintaining a healthy relationship. The man's vacation allowed him to reconnect with himself and return home with renewed energy and appreciation for his loved ones.

    • Parents prioritize children's happiness over their own during vacationsDespite well-intentioned plans, parents may miss opportunities for personal relaxation and bonding due to their children's preferences and behaviors, emphasizing the importance of finding ways to prioritize self-care and connection.

Parents often prioritize their children's happiness over their own during vacations, leading to missed opportunities for personal relaxation and bonding. The speaker in this conversation shared an experience of a family trip to the beach where he and his wife realized they hadn't spent much time alone together due to their children's preferences and behaviors. Despite their intentions to enjoy a day at the beach together, they ended up dealing with various issues, such as one child's refusal to wear appropriate clothing for an ice cream, another child's dislike of water, and their inability to sleep in the same room. These challenges kept the parents occupied and prevented them from fully enjoying their time together. The experience highlighted the importance of finding ways to prioritize and create opportunities for personal relaxation and connection as parents.

    • Unexpected challenges on family vacationThough family vacations may bring unexpected challenges, finding joy in solo activities, creating memories, and embracing the unexpected can lead to a relaxing and enjoyable experience.

Despite unexpected challenges and mishaps, the speaker found joy and relaxation during a family vacation. His allergies prevented him from swimming, but he made the best of it by listening to podcasts and enjoying solo activities. His son's expulsion from a pool party led to a long car ride filled with tears, but eventually, the child fell asleep, allowing the speaker to enjoy some alone time. The rental car turned out to be uncomfortable, but the speaker found amusement in the experience. Despite the hiccups, the speaker appreciated the opportunity to spend time with his family and create memories together.

    • Unexpected challenges on vacation can lead to stress and anxietyUnexpected challenges can lead to unexpected joys, it's important to adapt and find ways to enjoy yourself.

Even on vacation, unexpected pressures and responsibilities can arise, leading to stress and anxiety. In the discussed situation, the speaker was tasked with building a pizza fire hours before the Italian cook's arrival, leaving her feeling overwhelmed and unable to enjoy her meal or time with her family. Despite her efforts and the help of her partner, the fire kept going out, leaving her feeling like a failure and causing tension between her and her partner. However, the unexpected challenge also led to a surprising discovery - a sauna that became a popular relaxation spot for the group. Despite the initial stress, the speaker found joy in the unexpected success of the sauna and the bonding experience it provided for her family and friends. Ultimately, the experience served as a reminder that unexpected challenges can lead to unexpected joys and that it's important to find ways to adapt and enjoy yourself, even when things don't go as planned.

    • Relaxing holiday turns sour with unexpected argumentUnexpected arguments can occur during holidays, but communication and focusing on small businesses and charitable causes can help improve moods and bring couples closer.

Even during a relaxing holiday, unexpected situations can lead to arguments and tension between couples. In this case, an argument ensued between Josh and his partner during a sauna session, which was supposed to be their only alone time together. The argument was not about the sauna itself but about other issues, and it left them both feeling uncomfortable and frustrated. On a lighter note, the discussion also touched upon the importance of small businesses and the role they play in our daily lives. Herne Bay Locks, a locksmith company based in Whitstable, Kent, was mentioned as a favorite business of Amy and Tom. Furthermore, the conversation highlighted the significance of charitable causes and the impact they can have on people's lives. Mary's Meals, a charity that provides daily meals to over 2.4 million children in 18 of the world's poorest countries, was discussed, and the upcoming Double the Love campaign was promoted. Overall, the discussion emphasized the importance of communication, the role of small businesses, and the impact of charitable initiatives on people's lives.

Brené Brown's Guide to HEALING & Finding True Belonging

Brené Brown's Guide to HEALING & Finding True Belonging

My guest on this special rewind episode of The School of Greatness has carved out a very prominent place for herself in the world of emotional well-being.

Who is Dr. Brené Brown? Dr. Brené Brown studies shame.

Often, when she’s on a plane and isn’t in the mood for talking, this one-liner will easily shut down an unwanted conversation (or even a wanted one). Typically, we don’t like to talk about shame or anything that can make us feel vulnerable. But Dr. Brown isn’t afraid to talk about shame, vulnerability, and loneliness, because sadly, it is at the heart of humanity today. These are feelings that we all feel at some point in our lives.

We don’t like to talk about vulnerability, mostly because it makes us feel “weak” or “powerless.” We feel like if we admit our fragility, we will be broken in two by the opinions of others and even ourselves. The reluctance to discuss shame has attached a stigma to a very common emotion that we all experience. We discuss that, and more on today’s episode.

In this episode you will learn,

    • What belonging truly means.
    • What makes people complex.
    • What every parent needs to know about when their kids grow up.
    • Why parents are so defensive about their parenting style.
    • How to support men in being willing to discuss vulnerable topics.

2597 Don't Fall Asleep On Life

2597 Don't Fall Asleep On Life

When you live, you should feel alive. But many of our children are going through the motions with no emotions. Don't fall asleep on life. This is your time to shine!

It's time for us as parents to wake up and see our children. They are longing for our attention. And never should they have to fight to be seen by their parents.

Desire to be supported and encouraged by other like-minded women? Join us at Women of IMPACThttp://bit.ly/WomenofIMPACT

But I'm gonna keep it real. So many parents don't even know what their children on doing on a daily basis. They look forward to school starting and then holding their breath until vacation is over just to send their child back to school

Now, I get it that you may not be exactly like this. But we all have had thoughts of, "If I only had myself to take care of."

A lot of us can come to the quick reality and snap into deep focus. However, if parents act like their students drive, there are problems all around.

Every day I experience the drop-off line which includes parents taking their student or a student driving. The crazy thing is that the students don't pay attention to their driving, and the parents are too caught up in what they are thinking or doing, including being on their phone; yes in the car.

Basically, it's chaos at its best!!

One thing I've learned with teaching thousands of children and raising five of my own, plus a grandchild and son-in-love, it's not about what you don't see, but about what you do with who you see.

The K.I.S.S. ~ See your child for who he/she is!

Little do we understand, but the attention from a parent for a child is golden. There is nothing like it.

Yet, you and I can get so bogged down with what's going on in life that honestly doesn't directly affect them. Still, though we let them in on all the secrets before the secrets need to be revealed.

Children need to be able to lead a child-like life with support, love, forgiveness, grace, and discipline. However, are you giving that gift to your child?

Don't fall asleep on life. See your child for who he/she is.

    1. REcognize your child's everyday talents. This is a natural pick-me-up when everything around them could be falling apart.
    2. REstore your child's hope in everyday life. Help them see what they can't see. That means you might have to dream a little dream for them.
    3. REvive your child's heartbeat to thrive. They have to believe as much as you do. There is an energy a child possesses that is so child-like that it's contagious. Be aware of when your child feels out of place or is quieter (or louder) than normal. This could be a flatline. So encourage beyond the grades, and engage beyond the phone.

Help your child enjoy life. Is it going to be easy? No way!

But it's so worth everything. What you do today is your living legacy. Don't fall asleep on life.

Plant your roots and soars on wings.

"Be present. Be incredible. Be YOU!!!"
