Spirit of Elijah - Luke 1 - Audio

In the Studies in Luke series we move to verse 66 this week and consider the phrase, "What manner of child is this!". In doing so, Elder Cunningham presents a sermon on raising children. In the sermon, he considers the influence of personality, home life, and training but most importantly the mercy of God in shaping a growing child.

Luke 1:46-55 presents the only account of Mary's Hymn or what is referred to that is Magnificat. This hymn is divided up into two movements -- verses 46 through 49 making up the first movement and verses 50 through 55 making up the second. In this sermon, we consider the second movement which is focused on praising God for his mercy to the people of God throughout time.

The subject of this sermon is the beginning of Mary's response, as inspired by the Holy Spirit, as recorded in Luke 1:46-55. In this message, Elder Cunningham looks at the connection between the song of praise which Moses sang on the banks of the sea to the words of Mary. In each, we see how things change when we go from an earthly perspective to a heavenly perspective.

The Amarillo Primitive Baptist Church continues the study of the book of Luke in this sermon. In this message, we examine Elisabeth's hymn as it is recorded in Luke 1:42-45. This hymn of Elisabeth echoes the words of Gabriel to Mary and serves to reaffirm her faith. It also reflects the personal nature of our relationship with our Lord.

Elder Don Richards was with the Amarillo church again on May 24, 2020. In this message, Elder Richards takes us through the scriptures teaching both a practical and spiritual lesson on how we should: 1) hope for the best; 2) Expect the worst; and 3) be content with what comes. Elder Cunningham continues the study of Luke taking his text from Luke 1:40-41. With this text, we consider the key doctrinal concept of regeneration. Elder Cunningham also goes to John, 1 Peter, and Ephesians to examine this subject.

Elder Don Richards joins the Amarillo Primitive Baptist Church via Zoom on May 10, 2020. Elder Richards delivers a special Mother's Day message on the examples we have of the importance of mothers in the scriptures. Unfortunately, we had technical difficulties this morning and so the quality of the recording is not as good as we would like, but the message is no less blessed. Sadly, part of the technical difficulties including me getting kicked off the call at the end and losing part of the recording. Listen to what we have though and I think you will find yourself to be blessed and God to be honored.

Elder Cunningham brings a message from Luke 1:39-40 and Matthew 1:18-21. In this sermon, we consider how the two Gospel accounts reconcile. Luke presents the account from the standpoint of Mary and Matthew presents from the view of Joseph. In doing so, we consider Joseph's calling in conjunction with Mary's role in the coming birth of Jesus Christ.

The Amarillo Primitive Baptist Church continues the study of the first chapter of the book of Luke. In this sermon, Elder Cunningham takes his text from Luke 1:38 and examines Mary's statement that she is the handmaid of the Lord. Elder Cunningham goes to Ruth and to 2 Kings to examine other instances of faithful handmaid's and how they humbled themselves.

Elder Jesse Halbgewachs of Missouri brings a message from 2 Chronicles 7 about the need to humble ourselves before God. Elder Halbgewachs was a special guest during the April 26th virtual service for Amarillo PBC. In this message, he reminds us of our need to humble ourselves and pray to God for his care over his people.
