Transform Your Pain and Embrace Self-Mastery with Jojopahmaria Nsoroma

Transform Your Pain and Embrace Self-Mastery with Jojopahmaria Nsoroma

Welcome to Season Two of the Mother Tree podcast!

This episode is a combination of two conversations I had with author and wisdom keeper Jojopahmaria Nsoroma.

In part one Jojopah and I delve deep into embracing self-mastery, healing the pain body, and ascending to higher timelines. The conversation is an enlightening journey filled with wisdom and insights that we can all apply to our own lives.

She shares her personal journey of transformation, from breaking free of the strong Black woman stereotype to reconnecting with her ancestral wisdom and the Dagara medicine wheel traditions.

Her book, "Wisdom Walk to Self Mastery," serves as a guide for those seeking holistic healing beyond traditional talk therapy.

During the episode, Jojopah explores the concept of timelines, highlighting the choice we have in determining which timeline - lower or higher octave - we want to embody.

She emphasizes the power of connecting with our divine consciousness and serving our purpose with love and community-centered focus.

Jojopah says: "We really are here to learn how to ascend in our consciousness during our lifetime. Where I start out as a child should not be where I I end up as an elder."

In part two, Jojopah answers questions from the Mother Tree community:

How do I create an altar?

Are ancestors the same as other divine helpers?

How do you hold space for others rather than trying to save them?

Ancestral Healing and Accountability with Matthew Reynolds

Ancestral Healing and Accountability with Matthew Reynolds

In today's episode, we have a very special guest, Matthew R. Reynolds.  I reached out to Matthew after reading his weekly email where he spoke about envy and jealousy. But the first half of our conversation focuses on his father and reclaiming ancestors.

Matthew opens up about a longing he has carried with him throughout his life - a longing to know his father. As he shares his heartfelt desire to connect with his deceased father and explore the impact of his absence, we dive deep into the themes of internalized racial oppression and the capitalist system that perpetuates it.

Matthew's father passed away from Emphysema and COPD, and to honor him, Matthew takes a moment to say his father's name out loud.

We learn about his great-great-grandfather, who was a slave in Alabama, and how this past has strongly influenced his own father's life and subsequently Matthew's own.

As the conversation unfolds, Amanda and Matthew share their experiences of connecting with their ancestors. Amanda reveals her deep connection with trees as her ancestors, while Matthew reflects on his Irish ancestry and the importance of standing by trees. The belief that we are all connected, made of stardust, forms the foundation of their discussion.

As we journey through Matthew's exploration of his father's life, we also find ourselves transported to the awe-inspiring beauty of the big island of Hawaii where Matthew resides.

But the conversation doesn't end there. Aminata and Matthew discuss dance and theater as a form of healing abuse, racism and intergenerational trauma.

In the second half, Matthew reframes our perceptions of jealousy and envy. He encourages us to question the definition of success imposed upon us by society and to explore our own unique paths. Matthew also offers a powerful acronym for FAIL: "first attempt in learning."

Matthew also emphasizes accountability as a positive in our journey towards authenticity. We all need supportive communities and coaches who can help us navigate our shadows and empower us to stay true to ourselves and achieve our fullest potential.

Matthew also invites us to embrace difficulty and discomfort because they can lead us to profound personal and collective transformation.

So, grab a cup of tea, find a comfortable spot, and join us as we explore the intertwined threads of ancestry, healing, and the complex emotions of envy and jealousy. Welcome to the Mother Tree Network!

    Matthew’s Bio

Matthew currently works with groups of people (organizations and "trusted circles") on developing their Equity Lens  to develop humanity-led equity, connection, and thought in facilitated safe(r) spaces.   He is the author of BIGGEST, FULLEST, BRIGHTEST: Shifting the Consciousness of Humanity.

Black Joy and Kwanzaa with Dr. Chris Omni

Black Joy and Kwanzaa with Dr. Chris Omni

"A lot of people don't stop to think about the historical trauma that black people face or could possibly be retriggered by going into these Nature's faces and seeing the trees and seeing the moss hanging from the trees to be transported to the conversations of lynching."--Chris Omni

"Happiness happens to you. Joy happens within you. So it is very possible to hold both joy and pain in the same body at the same time."--Chris Omni

🌿🌻 Let's talk about the POWER of BLACK JOY! 🌻🌿

Amanda Aminata recently had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Chris Omni, the "health hippie" and black joy scholar, on the Mother Tree Network. Their conversation was nothing short of INSPIRING! 🙌

Dr. Omni spoke about turning 49 and how this milestone is aligned with awareness and spiritual connection. She reminded us that "your vibe attracts your tribe!” 🌀✨

But wait, there's more! She distinguished between happiness and joy, emphasizing that joy is collective. Joy happens within you but is also shared among your tribe—B L A C K joy. 🖤

The conversation delved deep into the collective nature of black joy, supporting the strong black woman phenomena. Dr. Omni highlighted the ability to carry joy and pain simultaneously. The strength in that duality is truly remarkable! 💪

When asked about cultivating joy from within, Dr. Omni alluded to taking one day at a time.  🌟

Then the conversation took a pivot, shedding light on the deficit narrative perpetuated in public health research about the black community. Shocking stats were shared—higher likelihood of certain illnesses among black women compared to their white counterparts. 😞

BUT, Dr. Chris Omni...Drumroll please...proposed a way to SHIFT the narrative! 🥁

She conducted a study on black joy in green spaces, using arts-based research methods. And guess what? The healing power of nature was profound! 🌿

From there, the discussion bloomed into cultivating gratitude and joy over time, nurturing it like a garden. 🌻

Amanda Aminata added a beautiful note about the importance of slowing down and connecting with nature, connecting to Dr. Omni's love for turtles and his research on black joy in green spaces. 🐢🍃

Dr. Omni chose to focus on Black Joy in her research to counteract the deficit narrative often associated with the black community in public health, aiming to address health disparities. 🙏

Finally, they delve into the intersection of Kwanzaa values and their influence on the concept of black joy. Dr. Omni shares her “Kojima Theory” of collective self-motivation, which incorporates the principles of Kujichagulia (self-determination), Ujima (collective work and responsibility), and Kuumba (creativity).

As they discuss the importance of pleasure and joy in one's work, we also celebrate Dr. Omni's groundbreaking achievement of co-creating the first-ever journal dedicated exclusively to black joy. Their conversation serves as a powerful testament to the significance of reframing narratives and the impact of joy-centered research.

This conversation truly celebrated the beauty of black joy and left us feeling INSPIRED to nurture our joy, one day at a time –far and wide! 🖤✨

Cultural Humility and Listening with the Heart: Nina Simons & Apache Plume

Cultural Humility and Listening with the Heart: Nina Simons & Apache Plume

Welcome back to the Mother Tree Network! In today's episode, we have the incredible Nina Simons joining us to share her wisdom, experiences, and insights.

Nina starts off by discussing her unique practice of creating an altar around a tree to protect her New Mexico home from wildfires, which led her to deepen her relationship with the land and feel a sense of sacredness.

“And there was a huge wildfire, the biggest in New Mexico's history.   I reached out to a friend and she said:. Make an altar around a tree that you love. And that became my practice. Putting flowers around the base of the tree and feeding it with water and sometimes with wine and with prayer.  And sending the prayer down into its roots and up into its branches.

Nina then dives into her book "Nature, Culture, and the Sacred," focusing on women's leadership and racial equity and justice.

She passionately emphasizes the importance of strengthening the feminine within everyone, not just women, as the repression of the feminine has had a profound impact on society as a whole.

Together, Aminata and Nina explore the significance of diverse leadership and racial equity, discussing the challenges and lessons learned from convening diverse groups.

They delve into the importance of creating safe spaces, discomfort resilience, and the need for love and acceptance in racial justice work.

Cultural humility is also a key concept highlighted, acknowledging the embedded white supremacy and implicit bias that exist in society.

Nina shares her personal experiences with cultural humility, the conflict in Israel and Palestine, and the importance of listening with the heart.

But the wisdom doesn't stop there. Nina shares her profound experience with a plant mentor, Apache Plume, and the lessons she learned about revealing beauty, camouflage, fertility, and growing in community.

The conversation takes a personal turn as Nina discusses her transformative process in her 60s, recognizing her white privilege and conditioning, and the importance of slowing down and making deliberate choices.

Nina's deep connection with nature and its capacity to heal and regenerate shines through as she shares her journey of finding solace and stability in nature.

This episode is filled with deep wisdom, personal experiences, and a call to honor the feminine in ourselves and the world.

You can learn with Nina by checking out her Every Woman's Leadership online class in 2024.  https://www.bioneerslearning.org/everywomans-leadership-nina-simons

    - Nature activities and exercises to deepen your connection with the Earth and all living beings
