About this Episode
The Record Hole was a cool record store in the Six Points area of Corpus Christi, Texas that was run by a pal of mine named Luther and his girlfriend at the time, Mine (sp?), circa the mid-to-late '90s. Luther's selection ran mostly on the pop punk and garage side of underground rock, but he did stock some hc notables and even some mainstream vinyl like Soundgarden's "Superunknown". I also bought a copy of Slayer's "Divine Intervention" on blood red vinyl that I still own to this day (Brick's inside voice: "Blood Red Vinyl"). Luther also promotes shows -- a nearly 20-year enterprise that includes everybody from Screeching Weasel to the Glow Skulls to the Sons of Hercules (see below).
Luther's shop closed its doors in the late '90s but he did manage to unload a lot of tasty gems to his best customers -- his friends! And we're all the better for it.
In the early morning hours of April 17, 2011, Luther was seriously injured in a car accident and was in the hospital for more than two weeks following the incident. Friends and supporters are planning a benefit at the House of Rock on May 28, 2011. The benefit will feature some classic CC bands and current ones as well. More info is forthcoming.
