    About this Episode

    WE'RE BACK!

It has been a minute, and we could not be more excited to be back with yet another episode of The 5th Down, your favorite football podcast, and more importantly back with the entire crew!  And on today's very special episode of 5th, we'll be dipping our toes back into the NFL with a small discussion on the futures of Dalvin Cook and Deandre Hopkins, as well as the Jacksonville Jaguars.  Sound a little random? Well give it a listen and find out exactly how and why those 3 topics all come together!

AND FINALLY, a highly requested segment that we finally found the time to do, a FICTIONAL FOOTBALL FANTASY DRAFT!  What exactly is that you ask? Well here were our rules:

    1. We are the GM's of an entirely fake franchise.  We must select players for our fictional fantasy organizations.
    2.  We must treat this like a true NFL team where you can only budget for 5 major impact players (under the assumption that any of our choices will be the "Stars" of the team)
    3. All players drafted must be fictional characters from movies and television (Biopics do not count)
    3.  You must select a fictional Head Coach for your team (not included in the 5 player count)
    4. The Draft will be held in traditional Snake Draft fashion
    5. Each player can be either offense or defense, it's entirely up to you!

And that's about it!  From some comedic choices, to no brainer ones, and everything in between, we made OUR choices, and hope that you guys will vote on our instagram (@ThePoiNSoyPodcast) or via twitter with the name of your favorite team's GM and the #PoiNSoy to let us know who you think had the best team!

After the Buzzer: Lebron James deserves a Lakers statue?!

After the Buzzer: Lebron James deserves a Lakers statue?!

Another day, another Lebron James accolade. 40,000 points is nothing to scoff at, and Lebron has undoubtedly put himself into the conversation for one of the greatest players in NBA history, however there have been a lot of critics who point out that it was an accolade earned in yet another disappointing loss.  Today the guys discuss exactly what went wrong in that historic game and whether or not the accolade was worth the sacrifice.

Around the NBA we also discuss the candidates for Rookie of the year aka the Battle of the 7-footers as Victor Webanyama and Chet Holmgren are undoubtedly 1 and 2 respectively in that race.  Who will ultimately take the title? We can't wait to find out.

AND finally, we discuss the MVP race between two standouts as Luka Doncic and Jayson Tatum have presumably gone back and forth as the leading candidate for this year's award.  Who do we feel like has the upperhand? Should the success of the Boston Celtics hold more merit?  We discuss this and more on today's pod!

See you next week for even more NBA news!

After the Buzzer: WE FIXED NBA ALL STAR WEEKEND!

After the Buzzer: WE FIXED NBA ALL STAR WEEKEND!

All Star Weekend 2024 has just concluded and has been the talk of the NBA world amongst media and fans alike, but not for good reason.  After what seemed to be a welcome change in last year's All Star Format, Adam Silver and the brass of the NBA decided to re-format back to the original version of the NBA All Star Game. Pitting Eastern Conference All Stars vs Western Conference All Stars in 4 Quarters of Defense-less basketball. Unfortunately, this year's event saw a drop in interest and attendance from last year because of it's over-the-top style of play and overall lack of competition.  Even from the player's perspective it's become somewhat of a joke.

While we are certainly just a small dedicated fan group, we couldn't help but come up with some solutions for Adam Silver and the team to ponder on, as we hope to draw more interest for future events and keep NBA All Star Weekend alive.  You're welcome NBA!  (And call us Adam Silver)

All jokes aside, we talk the events, how to fix them, and overall NBA news including the ongoing rivalry between Patrick Beverley and JJ Reddick regarding recent comments made by Doc Rivers.  Give it a listen and let us know YOUR fixes for NBA All Star Weekend on X with #PoiNSoy!

    See you next week!
