    About this Episode

    WHAT IS HAPPENING?

In this episode of the Monstrorum Historia podcast,  I interview Jake Goldsmith, founder of the Barbellion Prize. I'm Wendy: a researcher with chronic illness who has memory problems and has trouble speaking.

    WHAT JUST HAPPENED?

•I explain some of my cognitive and speaking limitations.

•I interview Jake Goldsmith, and luckily he speaks for the majority of the recording.

•I almost pass out after the interview ends, which was convenient and I hope caused much sympathy yawning.

•I thank very cool and caring folks that I've given funny names to.

I curse a bit; cannot be helped. Retreat unscathed if this is unacceptable.  Discussed: disability politics, creativity, publishing, abelism, solidarity, making folks uncomfortable, ... I can't remember what else.

    WHAT IS HAPPENING?

I interview David F. Walker: author, filmmaker, educator, and recent winner of TWO 2022 Eisner Awards.

I'm your host, Wendy: a researcher and semiotician with chronic illness who has memory problems and periodic aphasia.  I'm learning how to draw before I lose my ability to talk...and hoping I can eke out an eventual graphic memoir. Even if it ends up being wordless.

    WHAT JUST HAPPENED?

•I explain some of my limitations and try to encapsulate David's gargantuan bio.

•I interview David F. Walker, and luckily he speaks for the majority of the recording. (make sure to check the recording Chapters if you're looking for specific topics)

•I sum things up and point you back to these show notes.

•I thank very cool and caring folks that support me, and ask you to come back.

We curse A BIT; it cannot be helped. Retreat unscathed if this is unacceptable.  Discussed: disability, Covid, creativity, David's 3 P's, making folks uncomfortable, ... I can't remember what else.

    WHAT IS HAPPENING

Each episode demonstrates  that I sorely need an interviewer.  I'm a smart-ass researcher with chronic illness who has memory problems, thinking problems, and progressive trouble speaking.  PERFECT recipe for an award winning audio experience!  I am researching my own past and memoir project through interviews and 12+ years of voice memos I left to myself.  The practice speaking helps me with re-hab.  For more explanation please check out the introductory episode of Monstrorum Historia: #00.

    WHAT JUST HAPPENED

There's much more work to interrogating my voice memo cache than what is reflected in this podcast
. But hey: logging and transcribing, and backing up, and structurally analyzing and psychoanalyzing hours and years of recordings is not the type of audio experience I imagine listeners want.

They want Future Wendy making fun of Past Wendy!

    • I decide to share part of my work of sifting through hundreds of voice memos.
    • I randomly pick a memo called "Couch Park" named by GPS.
    • It's only about 3 minutes tops, and I interject to give context and make fun of myself.
    • I attempt to explain why I'm stunned, and how doing this feels very terrible, yet I emerge curious.
    • I thank my supportive Patrons who engage with my larger project of a graphic memoir.

I curse a bit; cannot be helped. Retreat unscathed if this is unacceptable.  Discussed: aphasia, memory loss, voice memos... I can't remember what else.

    WHAT IS HAPPENING

This is the introductory episode of Monstrorum Historia. I'm a researcher with chronic illness who has memory problems and has trouble speaking. PERFECT recipe for an award winning audio experience.

    WHAT JUST HAPPENED

    • I explain some of my cognitive and speaking limitations.
    • I describe the purpose of the podcast, and the aim of the larger project it attaches to.
    • I almost pass out mid episode, which I think more people should find attractive.
    • I badly recite some Montaigne,
    •  become confused a few times,
    • and basically display how I have to make fun of myself and my situation because any other response is too tedious to listen to.

I curse a bit; cannot be helped. Retreat unscathed if this is unacceptable.  Discussed: aphasia, memory loss, drawing... I can't remember what else.

WADE IN if you want to feel like a bulletproof hero. I am sitting here duly impressed by your efforts before you even begin.
