Phil Rose Of Clarity Leadership On The Importance Of Leadership Development, Mindset And Taking Risks In Building Culture

Phil Rose Of Clarity Leadership On The Importance Of Leadership Development, Mindset And Taking Risks In Building Culture

In this episode of Sparks by Ignium Phil Rose talks to… Phil Rose.

Yes, the other Phil Rose is also a coach, author and business leader. I first met Phil while I was running many years back. Phil was, among other things, organising a 10K cross country run at the time. I later learned that we both did similar things, and even ended up working for different clients in the same venue at some point over the last 10 years.

Phil Rose, CEO and co-founder of Clarity Leadership, shares his journey from working in tech support at Microsoft to starting his own business focused on leadership and team development. He discusses the company's focus on leadership development programs, team development programs, and executive coaching, and how they have expanded to work with larger organizations

In this conversation we cover a range of topics including the importance of mindset and intent in developing great leadership, and the challenges of being a leader. We discuss the qualities of effective leaders who set high standards and demand excellence while maintaining a human touch, and the importance of purpose and passion in leadership and personal fulfilment.

Phil discussed the three main challenges that teams face: lack of alignment behind a common goal, team dynamics, and executing a clear strategy. He emphasized the importance of setting a compelling ambition that excites team members and creating a positive team culture that fosters collaboration and trust. He also stressed the need for holding team members accountable for their actions and executing a clear strategy.

The conversation highlighted the importance of healthy challenge and debate in the team, but Phil notes that this requires trust and psychological safety to be established first.

We discussed the importance of having the courage to have tough conversations and make difficult decisions as a leader. Phil emphasized the need to understand and manage risks, and the correlation between leadership and risk-taking and how this influences decision makers.

We know there are no guarantees in any venture (or are there?) and so Phil highlighted the importance of using tools to help predict success and simply “having a go”. He encourages taking risks and learning from the process, as it can lead to enhanced entrepreneurial vision and growth.

Throughout the conversation, Phil emphasized the importance of a growth mindset and learning from challenges. He reflected on his experience of struggling with the pandemic and how he reframed it as an opportunity for growth. He noted that many people went through a victim mindset during the pandemic but did not take the next step to pivot their business or change their mindset.

Phil's experience highlights the power of a growth mindset and the importance of seeking out new perspectives and opportunities for growth.

Creating a purposeful life with Irene Riad

In this episode of Sparks by Ignium Phil Rose talks to Irene Riad about her journey from Saudi Arabia to Albania, and Creating a purposeful life with Irene Riad. They also discuss the concept of legacy and how it can be used to create a meaningful life.

Irene’s journey of self-discovery and exploration helped her create a coaching model that integrated mind, body, and soul. She created the Mosaic model, which is a metaphor and acronym for mind, body, soul, alignment, integration, and consciousness. This model helps people to interact with their own self to achieve their goals and live their legacy. The Mosaic model was inspired by Irene's life setbacks and her journey of creating a new identity.

After a more reflective journey to discover what she wanted to do in the future Irene created the renewal process based on the Mosaic framework to help people recognize their voice, examine their state, notice their emotions, engage with safety and choice, widen their self agency, and lead from their divine self. She believes that understanding the mind, body, and soul is essential to help people flourish and master their true self.

Irene discusses the power of becoming and how it can be applied to business to drive creativity and innovation. She believes that the key to success is being willing and that the ego often stops people from achieving their goals. She can be found on LinkedIn and Instagram under her name, Irene Riad, and her website is sightcet.com.

    Andre Norman: Ambassador of Hope

    Andre Norman: Ambassador of Hope

In this episode Phil Rose talks to Andre Norman about life since he realised he had to make the choice of how to lead his life. He could either stay with the gang culture that lead him to prison, or change his attitude, realise his purpose and make a different choice. He had to challenge himself and understand the positive impact he could have on others. There’s learnings in there for all of us. Enjoy the show.

(Some of) the main points for listeners are:

    •             Why do we excuse work alcoholics who abandon their families?

    •             Lack of hope is why people give up – so it’s our job to find hope

    •             With no purpose you drift

    •             How Andre went from gangster and tough guy running the jail but not in charge of his life

    •             Be honest about who you are and what you are

    •             Dream and go for it – that’s what hope and purpose gives us

    •             Challenge your thinking about how your story helps other people in areas you never considered

    •             What subconscious limitations are you putting on yourself?

    •             It’s your story that motivates people and it comes from presence and recognising your choices and purpose

    •             Remember you get to decide your own ‘rock bottom’

    •             I’m going to quit smoking on New Years day on Monday… but what’s the difference between today and Monday? What’s special about it? It’s really about you making a decision to quit NOW… and do it

    •             Be careful what you ask for… plan beyond free… what do you want your life to really be like… success

    •             we’re all going through something so remember to ask for help

    •             What 3 bullet points do you want on your tombstone:

o   For Andre: Harvard Fellow, Honourable Son, Freed people

§  It’s not about what you have but what you bring to the world so how do you want to act right now to align with those 3 words

    •             Sometimes it’s the people we know who hold us back

    •             You don’t have to be clear to change but you do need to be certain
