Let’s Talk About The Trans Experience(On Trans Womanhood, Allyship, Pro-Blackness and More)

Let’s Talk About The Trans Experience(On Trans Womanhood, Allyship, Pro-Blackness and More)

Good Up has always served as a safe space to talk about those experiences in life we didn’t know we had in common. Our hosts live at an intersection of multiple identities and understand very well what it’s like to be treated as subhuman by people in positions of privilege and power. We've been disappointed to see recent bigoted conversations on gender identity and trans womanhood.

So we're here to tell you now if it wasn’t already clear - if you refuse to see the humanity of our LGBTQ+ family - this isn’t the podcast for you boo.

Today, Daric (she/her) joins us for a beautiful conversation on the trans experience. Daric is a multimedia journalist who currently covers the intersection of news, entertainment, and culture at Reckon News. She is a proud Southern Black queer, trans woman based in Los Angeles. Today's conversation covers Daric's personal experience, our thoughts on how the Black community has navigated its embrace (and sometimes exclusion) of queer and trans members of our community, and more.

The Things We Learn From Our Places (On Relocating, Finding Self, And Harsh Truths)

The Things We Learn From Our Places (On Relocating, Finding Self, And Harsh Truths)

What is the biggest lesson you learned from the community you grew up in? What lessons have you learned in life by moving away from those spaces?

This week Gabrielle (@gabriellequerrard) and Iyanla (@iyanlaonislands) join us for a conversation on the lessons learned from the places we live. We discuss our hometowns, culture shock, the growth that comes with relocation, and the harsh realities faced by people who live in geographical regions that have been impacted by mass relocation and gentrification.

Girl Stand TF Up! (On Weaponized Incompetence)

Girl Stand TF Up! (On Weaponized Incompetence)

Has a romantic partner ever left the "romance" in your relationship up to you because "you're better at it?" Have you ever been expected to handle things around your home or at work because another person claimed they were incapable of doing it well?

This week we're talking about weaponized incompetence, which is a tactic some people use to escape responsibility by claiming that they are incapable. We talk about where this type of behavior shows up, how a patriarchal society has resulted in many traditional relationships experiencing this type of behavior, and what our advice would be for those involved in those relationships.
