I do a lot of stuff that may be considered a bit ‘woohoo’ to help with my emotional well-being and this poem delves into that a little bit. 🧘🏻‍♀️🪐✨💫

Suzie - TV personality, Speaker, Voice Over Actor

Suzie Cox is many things…. a TV personality and speaker, a voice over actor, a mentor, investor and advocate, a fellow podcaster, a mum and she was Vogue off of Gladiators, as in the hit TV show of the 90s that I watched religiously every weekend…I cannot believe I have the actual Vogue off of the actual Gladiators on my podcast!

She has presented and been interviewed on numerous regional and national television and radio shows including ITV, LWT, BBC, Channel 4, Virgin Radio and Radio 5 Live. She does a whole host of voice over acting and narration and she has not one but TWO podcasts; Top Dogs and Their Humans where Suzie chats with some amazing humans about their pooches and Brave Pants with Vogue and the Viking which is all about women putting on Brave Pants and doing stuff they have always wanted.

Chase - Assistant Producer, BBC Natural History Unit

Chase - Assistant Producer, BBC Natural History Unit

Chase has always had dual passions in wildlife and creativity and as a child they would make films impersonating Steve Irwin! Chase went on to study Zoology at the Universities of Exeter and Calgary, whilst exploring the arts during any spare time they had. They only became aware of the roles and career opportunities in Natural History Filmmaking through the Creative Access Internship Scheme - and soon realised that they wanted to create a flourishing career in this industry.

We met just over a year ago when I was working at Wildscreen to help launch their Emerging Talent Scheme and I had sourced Chase as a speaker. I’ve basically ripped off the bio I wrote for them back then for this podcast! Anyway, we followed each on the gram and kinda got to know each that way, we met for dinner ahead of this recording and I now consider them to be a friend.

    Their top 3 KIRS:

Fatima - Managing Director, Naked Television (Fremantle)

I met Fatima through the amazing Wonder Women in TV mentoring programme where I was lucky enough to be selected as a mentee in 2021 and Fatima was one of the mentors. She delivered a talk for us which was so inspiring that I was compelled to send her an email telling her so. I welled up so many times when she spoke to us mentees because I could really relate to her. She has got to where is today without the bank of mum and dad, having not gone to uni (although I did for free - thanks to a government grant) and she is from a South Asian background - all of these things could have gone against her but she made sure that they didn’t.

James - CEO inflexion Media, Serial Entrepreneur and Poet

James - CEO inflexion Media, Serial Entrepreneur and Poet

I’ve done it again. I have told you that I’ve finished a series, but then I get the opportunity to speak to another fascinating person and I think to myself, I can’t wait until the next series. I need to get them on now! So this is the reason for this bonus episode!

James Nguyen is a serial entrepreneur who has previously been featured on global broadcast networks including CNBC, Sky, ABC and has been a contributing writer for Forbes. He is CEO of Inflexion Media - they support companies, brands, and individuals to reach an unlimited audience through powerfully simple content. James has also created this brand - jqn. Here, he is able to distill his experience and lessons about life and business through the beauty of spoken word poetry. His topics range from truths about life, love, and spirituality. He also expounds on first principles from business and entrepreneurship in a collection of poems too.

My podcast really does bring some truly fascinating and interesting people my way and James is up there with the best of them! This was probably one of the 'deepest' conversations I've had on my podcast to date.

Now, I usually find my own podcast guests. But I did not find James. I was approached and asked if I would like to have James as a guest. When I was told about his background and watched a jqn trailer where I could see him performing snippets of his poetry I thought, “Blimey, what are the chances that this passion project of mine would lead me to finding an entrepreneur of East Asian heritage, who writes spoken word poetry in a similar style to me, is open about the importance of maintaining one’s emotional well being (there’ll be more talk on this later) and owns his own media company?!” How about that for brand alignment?!

So, as you can imagine, I was very excited about this opportunity. This really was an ace conversation.

    James KIRs are:

1️⃣ My poetry:  It's helped change my world views, break boundaries and shape the way I move through the world as an entrepreneur.

2️⃣ My inner work/spirituality: I have a daily practice of trauma and emotional healing work (innovated variation of IFS) as a way to improve my emotional acuity and ensure I don't project unresolved trauma in my life.

3️⃣ Surround myself with compassionate candour: I have an inner circle of family and friends that have license to always offer me uncomfortable truths they see as my blindspots, to ensure I don't succumb to a subjective filter bubble.
