    About this Episode

Hebrews 12:1 tells us that the way we're going to be able to run OUR race is to "throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles."

I think we get the idea of the need to rid ourselves of sin.  That's a basic moral idea.  But, what hinders us from moving forward in life?  Often it's our "regrets and remorse," as author Mimika Cooney says, "our poor thinking and attitudes."

Mimika Cooney is the author of a new book which will be released in early May.  It's called "Unstick Your Mind: Shift Your Mindset, Develop Grit, and Break Barriers."  As a "personal trainer for your mind, Mimika says, "Unsticking the mind is one of my favorite topics."

She loves to help people see that they are not stuck in a certain way of thinking or reacting - like they never can rid themselves of resentment, moodiness, excessive sadness, or a sense of not being capable.  With the help and healing of Jesus and with the decision to press through the discomfort of change, we can become new.  "We can turn from being victims to being victors."

Mimika's website will get you connected with her books, blogs, her YouTube channel and so many more wonderful resources to help you.

Discipleship Series: What is the Goodness of God?

Have you ever blamed God for things that have happened to you?  Been angry with God?  That is something that happens often with people if they haven't thought a lot about the causes of events.  Something bad happens and they immediately, or even for a long time, believe that God did it.  He was out to get them.

But when we really stop to consider the causes of events, when we mature in our faith, we come to realize that we're responsible some of the time for bad things happening.  We make bad choices.

Or, others may have sinned against us and made bad things happen to us or our loved ones.

And finally, if we study the Bible, we'll see that a description of satan and evil spirits is given and that is yet another cause for trouble coming to us.  There is a supernatural realm of evil which we have to deal with and acknowledge as a cause for bad events.

When we grow up spiritually and grow up in our thinking, we become able to see that God is our help, "our refuge and strength, and ever present help in  times of trouble." Psalm 46:1.

He is there for us to bring deliverance out of all our troubles.  Psalm 34:6

What is the Grace of God? (Discipleship Series)

What is the Grace of God? (Discipleship Series)

Grace is a word that people feel they understand, but by their words and actions, it is often clear that they don't.  You see them straining and striving for God's approval.  Or, you see them feeling too unworthy to be loved or needed by God.  Then there is the disapproval and disdain Believers may have for others because of their past lives.

Grace is so important to understand and to live out of when you follow Christ.  Therefore, it's a starting place when you are trying to become a more established disciple.  You have to understand how God and the Kingdom of God operate.  It's "Grace City."

Using Mark 5:1-20 as a foundational text, Dr. Pam talks about God's amazing grace.

Faith Unshakeable: The Fruit of Becoming a Disciple with Deep Roots

Faith Unshakeable: The Fruit of Becoming a Disciple with Deep Roots

What makes a person able to cling to their faith even when faced with danger and death? In this episode the topic of having "faith unshakeable" is reflected upon.

Having visited the Namugongo museum in the country of Uganda, the site of the death of 25 Christian martyrs, Dr. Pam Morrison was deeply moved.  The question arises with such a witness, how did they do it?  These young men were brutally treated, then murdered because they would not give up their faith in Jesus.  What equips a believer to be so strong and so brave?

Three things are offered in this episode of Rooted by the Stream as essential to developing this level of mature faith.  In this episode, Dr. Pam lets the listeners know that she will continue to teach on discipleship for the next few months.  This episode is offered as an introduction.  The teachings will begin September 6, 2023 and will be in both blog and podcast format for the next few months.

Many topics will be covered from grace, healed thinking, marriage and singleness,  forgiveness, having a relationship with the Holy Spirit and much more.

Romans 10:17 WHY Does Faith Come by Hearing?

Romans 10:17 WHY Does Faith Come by Hearing?

Romans 10:17 tells us that faith comes by hearing.  There seems to be real importance to speaking words from the Bible out loud, declaring them over our lives, for changing what happens in our lives.

Hearing the Word of God builds faith in us and faith is what is needed by God to work with us and through us.

Faith building teachings from Kenneth Hagin are mentioned in this episode.  May you find transformation and healing in your life and thinking.

America and the First Great Awakening with Dr. Eddie Hyatt

America and the First Great Awakening with Dr. Eddie Hyatt

Was America founded in 1619 with the importation of the first slaves?  Is it a hopelessly racist country? This is what the creators of the New York Times 1619 project would have you believe.

Certainly, slavery is a huge blight on America's past, but are they right, that 1619 was our true beginning not 1776?

My guest in this podcast, Dr. Eddie Hyatt, would argue that neither date is actually the moment in which our national character was forged.  A Church historian and revival scholar, Eddie says the actual year that would truly shape the American heart and destiny was 1726.  It is the year of the beginning of the First Great Awakening in America.

Out of this spiritual revival that swept through the 13 colonies, two things happened - 1) the vision for the nation and its founding documents was greatly touched and shaped by God, and 2) the founders knew they would have to abolish slavery in response to God.

Dr. Hyatt has written a book, 1726: The Year that Defined America.  This is an excellent, well-researched, highly acclaimed book about the founding of America, the vision many had for its missionary purpose, and about the faith of the founding fathers.  It is uplifting and hopeful in a time when many are denigrating America.  It is also a portrayal of American history that is increasingly being left out of our textbooks.

Dr. Hyatt has launched the 1726 Project in an effort to spread the truth about America's history.  To reach Dr. Hyatt to have him present three sessions based on his book in your church, school, business, or organization, contact him at DrEddieHyatt@gmail.com.

What Spiritual Practices will Increase the Anointing of God in Me?

What Spiritual Practices will Increase the Anointing of God in Me?

Many believers have questions about how to have "the anointing," and "how to increase the anointing."  "Do I need to do more prayer and fasting?" they may ask.  "How much?"

Those who don't move in charismatic communities might even ask, "What is the anointing?"

These are good questions.  Being anointed to do the work of Christ makes that work go so much more easily and be so much more fruitful.  Flowing with God is far more desirable than straining in your own strength.

This is a podcast about the spiritual practices that increase the power of God working through us.  I mention verses about the baptism of the Holy Spirit (and also a little about the gifts of the Spirit) for further study.  Here they are:

    Matthew 3:11, Mark 1:8, Luke 3:16, John 1:33, Acts 1:5, 1:8, 2:1-4, 8:14-17, 9:10-19, 1 Corinthians 12:1-11, 14:1-19

There are certainly more verses about the Holy Spirit throughout the Bible.  Studying them along with studying all the healing stories of Jesus will prepare you for greater anointing and fullness with God.

    Expect Revival

    Expect Revival

Because of the outbreak of revival at Asbury University, other colleges, and in different nations around the world, people are wondering what characterizes true revival.  They also question, "Can these pockets of revival last and will they spread?"

This is a message of hope that God can bring more revival, in fact, a next Great Awakening, in the United States and in other nations of the world no matter how bad conditions may look to you.  There has never been an era without sin and depravity.  Nevertheless, God breaks in many times as we cry out to Him.

Look up and be encouraged by this message of hope.

You've Prayed for Healing but Nothing Has Changed. What Now?

You've Prayed for Healing but Nothing Has Changed. What Now?

Are you someone who has had an illness for a long time?  Do you love someone who has been chronically sick?  Perhaps you have prayed.  You have had whole groups of people praying.

This happens to more than a few of us.  It happened to my husband who suffered from cancer 15-16 years.  He has just been declared "cancer free."  We have prayed, taken communion, had groups and groups of people praying for him.  But, we went through years with no relief from cancer until now.  When that happens, why does it happen?  How shall we think about our relationship with God?

This is an episode full of joy and encouragement.  We are PRAISING God for His incredible, constant, and awesome goodness.  The years of enduring cancer proved to be very fruitful.  We came through VICTORIOUS.

God will sustain you in whatever hardship you find yourself and you'll be able to say, "The Lord is my Shepherd (too)...Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life. (Psalm 23)

What is happening at Asbury University? When True Revival Comes

What is happening at Asbury University? When True Revival Comes

The chapel at Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky is filled with worshippers.  It has been for days.  Revival has broken out.  Students are even bringing mattresses so that they might sleep in the Hughes auditorium.  No one wants to leave the manifest, tangible presence of God.

Worship is spontaneous.  One team plays for a while, then others come to take their places so that the music and prayer do not cease.  People are coming from hours away as the news is spreading swiftly across social media.  How hungry so many of us are to feel more of God with us.

What are the hallmarks of true revival because sometimes people can simply get carried away with emotion and from being in a crowd.  When God is truly there in the unique way of a revival there is nothing sweeter and that is what should be pursued.

This is a podcast about the Asbury University revival, but also about revival in general.  Come, Holy Spirit.  We need You.
